Paul Morley drops a hint (or not) about Hooky's next proejct

I was lucky enough (seriously) to be at a Paul Morley hosted 'Tribute to Tony Wilson' Thursday Night at Purcell Room on London's South Bank as part of Ray Davies' Meltdown festival. Anyway in passing Morley made a comment about chatting to Hooky recently about what he was going to do next and how it would piss off Barney and Steve. Morley being Morley then said he had been sworn to silence and then merely mentioned FAC 50/Movement.

Draw as many erroneous conclusions as you want.

BTW OMD ended the evening with a short set which for me at least was fun as last time I saw them was at the Festival of the 10th summer when some young whipper snapper managed to get on the stage with them and started attacking them with a tin tray - happpy days...

errrmm... thanks for the big type. I don't think it's a major surprise that Hooky is going to run through all the albums unless someone shoots him.

You gotta be fucking kidding. Let it go. I know the mans gotta make a crust and that, but can't he just tour as a career-whole retrospective with bits from NO, JD, Revenge, Monaco, etc and be done with it. After all, as prime vocalist in Monaco/Revenge, I reckon he could easily justify a couple of years touring like that throwing in the odd push of DNE, Ceremony, and a couple of JD numbers. On the other hand, a yellow vinyl 10" of re-recordings for £450 couldn't be seen in ANY way as an exploitative ripoff. It's not just that Sumner & Morris won't like it... if The Peter Hook Experience tour Movement, then well, artistic integrity be damned. "Money doesn't talk. It swears."

Well a thread last year mentioned Hooky told a fan (in Australia, I think) he was gonna follow the UP tour with Closer then Movement then PC&L... And as I mentioned in my 'Who knows what's gonna happen in 2011' thread, if he carries on like this then (a) we'll rip the shit out of him for doing it then not be able to resist going along anyway, and (b) Lord help him / us when he reaches Republic.

Hmm many ways of looking at this one, On the positive side I was 10 when movement came out and i have never heard NO play any of the stuff, the UP and Closer gigs were good and most of the punters at the gigs enjoyed them. I'm not obliged to go to see Take That so i bloody well don't, I'm not obliged to see BAD LOO or The light but I do and have been rewarded with some NO and JD classics in small venues.

I think given the never to be reunited status of the band this is as good as it is going to get...but no i wont be spending 400 quid on a book peter!!

Noone forced us to buy the stuff/see the gigs the first time around. But we still did. So we've the right to moan. Just as long as we're decent and don't insult people. Not that anyone's gonna invite them down here anyway.

I was 'meh' about the Joy Division stuff but Im quite excited about the Movement and P, C & L stuff.

If you consider Hooky has done UP and CLOSER, and Barney starts now with WTFSC, the middle album would be TECHNIQUE! Hell yes!

Actually, the more I think about it, it might not be a bad option at all, not like anyone else's going to play the songs off Movement ever again, and they deserve airing, they were so much bettrer live than on the album, and one member is better than no member anyway. So ok why not.

McCluskey remembered playing a London gig supporting ACR and Joy Division when his bass got nicked and he recently discovered that the culprit was Hooky!. No-one in the room was surprised.

Blimey O'Riley! That gig took place at the Acklam Hall in Westbourne Park (west London). That bass was a bit unusual; it was a left-hander which Andy played upside down! I never knew that Hooky nicked it. I wonder if Hooky ever played it live. Andy bought the Fender Jazz bass which he still uses to replace the nicked one.

I'm pretty sure that OMD played Almost live quite recently. They definitely played it on 4.12.81 as it's on the live Drury Lane DVD. I wouldn't mind seeing Hooky play Movement, then P, C and L and then the glorious Low-Life...

You know... While I despise Republic with all my heart and all my soul and all my mind, The Light doing it live isn't quite as off-the-wall as it might sound. Nearly half the tracks were played live during the 93 please-we-do-exist tour (Regret - a staple - plus RIAD, World, Everyone Everywhere and even Special), and even if Hooky ain't playing bass in the final mix (a) he probably was at the demo stage, and (b) he'd be singing half the time anyway. Plus as I've said before, we punters can rip the poo out of a project, but ultimately we'd rather spend a night in the company of the Light than sit at home in our underwear watching 'EastEnders'. I'd be up for it!!!

Republic would be great. Lots of bass on the live versions of all those songs - Regret being the stand-out in terms of improvement. Great bass on that one.

Anyway, the real reason for this post is to let all you Moreley fans know that the great man has contributed to the Late Night Tales MGMT cd. An exclusive spoken word track, no less, entitled Lost for Words Part. 2. Worth buying for the title alone.

If you don't know what Late Night Tales is, then give it a Google - some cracking rekkids on their catalogue.
