HACIENDA CHESTER 28/01/2012

Right on my doorstep this, and the last one was pretty good too [actually scratch that it was very very good...] so I'll be going.

I never went to the Hacienda being only 11 when it closed so it's great for people like me who want at least a vague idea of what it was like. They even decorated the place like the Hac last time complete with hazard striped bollards, DJ playing up in the heavens, balconies etc.

Even the bar staff were realistic... I was waiting 40+ minutes at one point to get served.

Pretty packed, rammed by midnight, actual Hacienda-era music played was probably only about 50 - 60%, a lot of current music played and mixed in, but seemed to work quite well in the context of the set.

Some tunes I remember being played:

Chemical Brothers featuring Bernard Sumner - "Out Of Control" Underworld - "Born Slippy" Sterling Void - "It's Alright" New Order - "True Dub" Joe Smooth - "Promised Land"

Mr. Hook occasionally peering over the balcony but other than that quite remote, and left 5 minutes after the end which I was a bit gutted about as thought he would stick around just a little while longer and so didn't get to see him. But I suppose it was 4:15 am..

Ended the set with inevitably Candi Staton's "You Got The Love" but followed after an encore with a mix of White Stripes "Seven Nation Army".

I'd say at least half of the punters were sorted, definitely more gurners this time than the previous show at the venue, but zero trouble and plenty of dancing, smiles and hand-shaking.

Not bad for a tenner.
