Bernard joining Johnny for a track or two?

Surely just a matter of time before more North & South America dates announced...

Holly crap that's an amazing lineup. They better do a few other gigs on the west coast. Missed them this past fall and only second time I have missed a us tour .

What does that mean - they'll play either Saturday? Or both?

Doubt it.

Went before and didn't really enjoy it - somehow contracted flu (in 40 degree heat!!) and spent my time having shivering fits. Work that one out.

I love the picture of the cat that represents New Order when you look at the line-up! [:p]

They play both weekends. The same line up plays both weekends.

i'll make the second weekend (April 19-21). The line up is great, it would be so nice for me seeing for the first time bands like TheStoneRoses, Blur, LouReed, SocialDistortion, RedHotChiliPeppers, OMD and JhonnyMarr, besides seeing again YeahYeahYeahs, Phoenix, 2DoorCinemaClub, HotChip, TameInPala, PassionPit, Moby, FranzFerdinand and obviously NuOrdah!! 😎

I was a bit gutted when I saw the line up, as there's no way I can get that much money together before April.

Hope you all enjoy it.

Gits.

What airport is best to get there?

Most would fly into LAX, and make the drive out to Palm Springs/Indio. Palm Springs has its own airport, but, you would need to fly to LAX first if you're coming from Iowa.

Less than $500 roundtrip to PSP. Even cheaper to San Diego.

Almost confirmed a Brazil date on April 5th (Friday).

See what the prices are into Ontario...much easier to get out of than LAX...

Are you going to Coachella??? It's a pity Midwest has no music festivals comparable with Coachella... I envy Europeans: they seem to have big top-act festivals in every big city, from Denmark to Serbia.

America sucks compared to Europe in terms of festivals. America is very conservative musically. Boring and rap sell here. I need to spend my summer in Europe one of these years.

Where's that news from then?

Surely Andy can't confirm anything - it's down to the promoter, not New Order's management, to confirm gigs.

Is that Brazil date a festival? The Cure are in Rio on April 4th and San Paulo on April 5th so it seem quite the coincidence that they are there at the same time Might be a great holiday for some people like me who like both bands or an early exit for some other Vikings[;)]

Yes! Ricardo, Luis, Junior and me. Perhaps Igor, Emoka and Aracri silo join the gang. Sent another email to Andy last cause just confirmed 2 dates till this moment.

Quite sure it will be. Cure and New Order at the same night is too much for an old man.

Both The Cure concerts in Brazil are NOT part of a festival.

coachella is expensive if one wishes to hear new order only, but the santa barbara show is reasonable. flying from texas and 4 nights hotel , renting a car ,and seeing both shows for about $1500.00 is worth the hard work saving up for it all. besides, bernard is super friendly , and likely to share some good cheer and hugs before and after sound checks. last autumn, in dallas, he was especially kind. they played 18 songs, 6 of which were joy division songs. and now, with some of electronic's songs possible, or lost sirens, or 'special' or 'everyone everywhere', then bliss/euphoria/ ecstasy shall prevail, and, our newordernow has more new songs coming. at 59 ,i feel i am one of the luckiest fans on earth. so, thanks are in order on a daily basis .

Barney seemed a bit grumpy and off his game most of the night. Gillian never looks all that thrilled when he takes over at the end of BM does she?

Falling over at the start of Regret probably put him in a bad mood :-)

She never looks all that thrilled, period, but yeah, I've wondered this too.

As for Barney, he was off-key vocally (more so than usual). I thought the sound quality on that video feed was pretty thin, though.

WARNING: RANT ABOUT TO ENSUE... APOLOGIES.

Barney's comment of 'if I were an American I would sue someone' just rubs me the wrong way. A few minutes before this he talked about 'working', and during his shift where he is getting paid thousands by many, many people (a few probably American) he goes and says something like this.?. WTF.

Three songs in and he is a grumpy MF and does not look like he even wants to be there.

"Have you ever watched them live before" you may want to ask me... Sure. And we all give them a lot of accolades when half the time they sound like shit.

Just something about that comment makes me say fuck you to him. There is no reason for insults, regardless of whether or not they are American, Chinese, Saudi, Korean, etc. People going to see NO may or may not agree with cultural norms.

And don't get me started on the Isolation 'cover'. Yes - cover. "Do do do do"? WTF. That song is not a happy little jingle. IT'S ISOLATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I trust ALL artists had to deal with the dusty environment.

Just saying... I am a huge NO fan. I'm just shocked and surprised he is still being an asshole after all this time.

In England, Americans are sometimes portrayed as people who will sue for anything - He slipped on something and fell over - looked like he was making a joke about that to me? Didn't see it as an insult to be fair?

I was there, and i would have been upset too if i fell over a dangerous situation too. I think he got more into after though which was great and positive. New Order sounded great in the tent and visuals wonderful.

Regarding the slip, surely the stage should have been free of dust or anything else that could have caused someone to fall like that, how much does it cost to get someone to give it a sweep between acts? I can understand his annoyance actually and if he had injured himself the gig would have ended right there.

Yes, he did from reckless dancing during Crystal... i was there too. I think he tore something in his leg, and wasn't able to get around much on stage at Coachella afterwards.

I have just a rant. Moronic non-fans with fucking vip passes thinking they are coachella god or something. Just cos you have a vip wrist band doesn't mean you get MORE personal space on the concert floor. Fucking vip pple thinking they are really THAT important.

It's a very Californian Festival, Coachella. Colourful, populated, lush with unforgiving sun, the gentle hum of weed in the air and wealthy LA Hipster kids.

On top of New Order we took in Savages, Hot Chip, Postal Service, show stealers The Selector, Blur, Stone Roses, Violent Femmes & Franz Ferdinand. But the go to stage for modt was the Sahara where EDM pumped out day and night. For us though, the Sahara stage was just the last staging post en route to VIP hospitality (sorry Vince!).

New Order headlined the large Mohave stage, and after Bernard slipped at the start of Regret the set had an edge and steel to it which the crowd picked up on and enjoyed. Maybe fuelled by a day of drinking but from BLT onwards the crowd was moving from front to back.

Strange that the previous time Bernard fell over on stage, was also at a festival - Sweden's Hulfstred in 2002 - and also during Regret.

santa barbara was sublime, i believe i counted 12 sound check songs ,including two x your silent face and run wild . all those songs sounded better than the set at coachella . world and i'll stay with you were part of the 18 song set. bernard was totally happy. andres said the vikings had had a great time the night before with the band until 4 am. also ,without the curfew , bernard would have played more songs for us at the best venue possible. awesome show. andres and i spoke to the band at the hotel restaurant . tom gave me a guitar plectrum with magical powers . and they are going to keep writing and touring . the short tour is the way. two days later at coachella i arrived 2 hours too early. heineken thought that the hiphop crowd needed an incessant omnipresent bass thump, as in the car next to one at a signal light. imagine you are by the pool with your boombox set at a nice volume , and 4 other boom boxes nearby are set a bit louder . despite the insult bernard and company pushed past the curfew to get 2 extra songs played. bernard likely felt bad for his fans. he frustratingly said ' it is not just about the volume'. my main memory was the teen in tears, as sigur ros suffered from noise pollution as well. looking back to 1985, riding a bicycle from taunton to hear one band, just one, the headlining echo and the bunnymen, played so gorgeously loud and clear, without competing noise ,and riding back in a downpour could not possibly dampen my spirits. the mud was washed away . if you think coachella is for you, fine . i'll see new order under much better circumstances in austin in july. bernard loved santa barbara. he made the best of a terrible situation at coachella. and when one's favorite humans remember one from a previous time and place there is reason to smile . and andy was beaming in santa barbara. they were fabulous.
