I consider this on-topic as certain NO members are involved in these bands some way or another!

This is actually quite difficult, because nearly all of them have done something worthwhile at some stage. Happy Mondays were probably the best of them all though, even though I cancelled my fanclub membership in about 1966.

Voted for Cabaret Voltaire, though ACR is a close second. Most all of the others had a moment or two that I liked, though I'd never heard any Royal Family stuff, and the Railway Children were quite mediocre.

Happy Mondays before they went baggy. Loved The Railway Children. ACR are a firm favourite and I'm just discovering, 20 years too late, that The Stockholm Monsters were a damn fine band.

Went with The Wake on this one as I prefer the miserable Factory rather than the funky one. I just couldn't get my head round the likes of 52nd Street, Quando Qaungo or Kalima and The Royal Family & The Poor must be one of the most appaling bands I've ever seen live in my life.

What a f****** rotten question to ask! How the hell am I supposed to choose! Went for the Durutti Column cos (a) I love 'em (b)they are still around (c) shelves groaning with their stuff. Could have been Cabaret Voltaire (not enough Factory Produce to get my vote - otherwise second favourite band of all time) ACR, The Stockholm Monsters or The Wake or Section 25.... even the Mondays, god bless 'em.

To be honest I never really liked any of them much. But if I have to choose then OMD get my vote, saw them a few times in 81/82 and they were alright.

Even though I voted for the Cabs, I have to admit I like their Virgin Records years more than their Factory tenure.

Hadta go with Section 25. I've been listening to them almost as long as JD & NO.

The Mondays came in a very close second but I'm 'relatively' new to them so I think I've an excuse...

Stutter, the first lp, was a factory release... I think...

I looked through me stuff...STUTTER was released under Sire, however, their first 3 singles were FACTORY...so I guess that settle it then!

Read a quote recently about how Sean is meant to have asked The Farm to teach them to dress like scousers. Might explain the Admiral phase. Still perhaps they could have returned the favour and taught The Farm how to write an album as great as Bummed.

Went for ACR. I would have gone for James but i dont really like their early stuff from the factory label.

Just voted 52nd Street because I saw they hadn't any votes and they deserved some, I love their electro stuff. By the way I think Crispy Ambulance are still left without a vote so please someone vote them, they were great too. My actual favourite band is a tough choice between the Mondays, ACR and Section 25. Guess the Mondays, at first I underrated them, but their debut is perfect modern funk and Yes Please isn't bad at all like they wanted us to believe, it's a great album.

Got all the Mondays stuff, and you can get the ACR 'early' collection in HMV. But not sure about the other. Cheers anyway :)

Durutti Column always do it for me, even if he has made the same record about 20 times. Those first singles James made for Factory were by far and away the best thing they ever did........(drifts off nostalgically into glowing memories of drunkenly dancing to "Hymn from a Village" at Staffs Poly student discos in 1989/90)......

Indeed NORTHSIDE were quite good at one time..SHALL WE TAKE A TRIP...STAR.Classic pop tunes and lovely cover artwork.Didn't last very long...a bit like MARION in later years.So much was hoped for but so little delivered.The MONDAYS were great though till it all went DRUGDOWNHILLFAST and then there was nothing!

The Stockholm Monsters. I know they didn't have much impact other than the fact that I really dig their limited output for the most part. Something about the vocals. I like something from most of the bands listed, but the majority of them put out something pretty crappy eventually. Except maybe Section 25, all of their albums are pretty good. I like the 2 James singles alot, but not enough to vote them my favorite (especially since the majority of the post-factory work is flaccid crap). I still pop on the odd Durutti Column album on a Sunday morning or when my grandmother's over for dinner. Had some fun at some Happy Mondays shows too, but I'll stick with the Stockholm Monsters. It may be the only vote they get.

acr followed closely by the cabs.

acr have produced some hypnotic vinyl moments and are a class act live..dark,late and funky.

one of my all time fav gigs was when cabs played at the leadmill the same night as new order played the city hall..i went to both and the cabs just blew me away.

I voted for ACR although I love Happy Mondays and James as well. James didn't do enough Factory stuff to count for his vote and Happy Mondays were one of the major causes of the downfall of Factory.

*Look, I won't ever forget that day in late November 1992 when I bought the NME and saw Factory went bust on the cover. It was a big shock. And I blamed the Mondays as well, that prevented me from being a fan of them for a long time. But now I see things in perspective. a) The Mondays' success actually helped Factory to survive for four years at least. Otherwise, it would have ended earlier. New Order were not enough. And the Mondays played a major role in the whole Madchester scene which kept alive the Hacienda as well. b) At least the Mondays were in time to release Yes Please on Factory. It didn't do well, but at least they tried. In fact New Order weren't in time with Republic, or better, decided to wait to release it on a major to see some money back, foreseeing Factory's bancrupcy. Not that I blame them for that, but the fact Tony couldn't play Republic as his last card remains.
c) Actually I'm sure Tony spent a lot of money for the Mondays' crack holiday at the Barbados, but I'm really sure he has to blame himself. Not even all the drugs taken by Shaun during his whole life will match the 2 MILLIONS of pounds he spent for the new fookin building. As we see in the movie Rob jumping at his throat for that stupid table, he was right. That was the madness that ended Factory. Plus all the security expenses for the Hacienda.

From my shelf, Little Big Band FAC207 ,best busker in M/CR and a bloody good art teacher too. Rob Gray, nice bloke very generous with his time and the man who casualy introduced me to Nico and John Cooper Clarke which left me fookin speechless, all power to the fella whatever he's up to now

No, that's definitely true: Northside really WERE arse - truly the last stale dregs of Madchester....

Between 83-86 The Stockholm Monsters were unbeatable - fantastic live (like I said here : http://www.freakytrigger.co.uk/stockholm.html), every single completely different, yet couldn't be by anyone else. There's something about the combination of that voice, the ramshackle, rattling rhythms and the eerie trumpet that goes straight to the heart. And Alma Mater is one of the top 5 albums by anyone in any genre - absolutely essential listening.

Of course I love the majority of FAC artists on the list - Sectio 25, ACR and The Mondays in particular, but the Monsters get my vote.

Kevin Hewick... oh alright then ACR. Tough one between ACR and Section 25. I think I bought my first ACR LP before S25 so they get the nod. Hilltop still sounds good today though.
