Still haven't seen PFD yet 
so I'll have to go with Taras.
A very young, powerful, aloof band, making incredible music without the help of autocues and ProTools. I'd sell my left testicle to science to travel to 1981 to be there.
Taras, for the young, fresh, not-so-polished-but-playing-a-lot-of-badass-songs-that-will-forever-be-replaced-by--the-same-old-hits fellows.
Town and Country Club 86, audience recording for me, was a great gig, but then again they were in 86
Reading 98 from the official ones, it was ACE down the front, and to top it all off. WIM with Keith Allen
3 16 & 5 11 are the only two official ones,so i`ll go with 3 16 because it shows differents points in their/our lives. Would of liked 5 11 to have followed 3 16 though & included PFD.
I actually went for 511 - have better memories of it than 316. Actually thought Reading was a bit lacklustre after the Manc Apollo warm-up.
Of the official release though, I think Academy takes the biscuit - shame it's not been pushed out onto DVD yet cos that was a real cracker (actually, it's just come to me - I wonder if they'll ever make the footage of Touched available from that gig as they presumably recorded it?).

Yeah, Academy is the best live recording, and while 5:11 beats 3:16 hands down, that's a shame 'cos the latter was such a great gig. Al always says he thought the '98 Reading show was a bit of a let down, but it was all about the crowd that day - never seen so many people looking so happy. Unfortunately, the DVD just doesn't capture the joy/hysteria that was so evident; what it does do is reveal it to have been a pretty ropey performance (not that it mattered on the day) with perfunctory camerawork. Oh, and no Ceremony, the bastards....
The crowd scenes during World In Motion are amazing though, aren't they? Especially the long shot from the back of the arena.

Totally agree about Academy, an incredibly powerful performance through and through

I think its the best audience recording I ever got hold of.
Close to the stage so you can see Gillian panic when the sequencers wouldn't change from the opening pattern on The Perfect Kiss.
Its also the complete gig.
316 because it had 2 gigs. Performace wise, Taras. They were tight and played Movement stuff plus were experimenting.

I would have to disagree, they were FAR from the finished article when Taras was performed. A lot lot better was to come from the band in subsequent years.

Yeah, that gig shifts between the sublime and the shambolic - it's fascinating, though, kinda like a car crash....
- you can see how much more comfortable they look at reading than at the taras show, and it's good to have taras on DVD.

PFD actually came out on dvd in Japan (those lucky japanese bastards!...), so I guess it counts as an official release.
316, merely because I had heard about this for years before it was finally released in the States. While I enjoy the video and sound quality of 511 more, there is something "off" about a daytime gig for some reason. Reading at night just has a better feel to me.
How does one get PFD or Academy? Anyone know if/when these will be re-released?

Thanks to some detective work by the wonderful Biznotic Love Trapezoid, I was able to score Academy on DVD, and if it were on the list, I would've put that on top. Seeing that it isn't there, gotta go with PFD.
I had to go with 511...simply because I was there...
and the memories of the previous evening...finally meeting up with some class acts...ShugzV and Baldrick, Don, Mick, Jarvo, Giles...and getting so fooking drunk that I didn't recall meeting Liv and Kezzie...

Sad bastard that I am I remember checking the expected time for nightfall before Reading 98 and it was around the 8.30 mark. I think New Order came on slightly before that, so it was already dusk. I thought we were gonna see 'em in daylight cos of the support slot but actually seem to remember the light wasn't an issue. Obviously different for Finsbury, mind, and that's blatant on the DVD.

I only thought about the official releases. But of course 'Academy' is a better gig/video. (Though I think I slightly prefer PFD, I like those days better.)
