Hooking Peter into a chart bid Helen Tither
LOOKS like New Order bass player Peter Hook might have something of a surprise chart hit on his hands.
After some intense sessions in the recording studio, Salford band Hanky Park are finally putting the wheels in motion to release their own version of the Joy Division anthem, Love Will Tear Us Apart.
And, while band frontman James Davenport tells me Hook has given his blessing for the cover of his old band's tune, the bass legend might not have been fully aware of what part he was going to play in the single's release.

"We've finished recording Love Will Tear Us Apart now, and we are planning to release it later this year," says James. "Hooky helped us on it - he's our special guest.
"I just asked him to put his part down on the recording and said we wouldn't use it. But, of course, we have used it - although I'm sure he knew we would, really. He'll get a mention on the cover!
"Hooky has given us his blessing to do it. But we have put our own stamp on it, with a bit more guitar and less keyboard."
Finalised
A release date for the single, which will be produced by Davenport's own label, Cannonball Records, has not been finalised. However, the band has been given some funding by the Scarman Trust charity to help with promotional costs.
But for anyone who can't wait to hear it, the band will be playing at tonight's launch party for new city centre Indie venue, The Soundgarden, on Blackfriars Street.
Who knows, there might even be a surprise guest star...
