The relative weakness of the lyrics to Crystal has been discussed here. The reason can now be revealed. They've been censored, just like True Faith.

are you making this up? I kind of like it though...but a girl half my age would land me in jail!!! Isn't Barney old enough that it would at least be legal?
Jeff, it just came to me as I was listening to a live version of the song (Liverpool). It just seemed very awkward when he came to "I betrayed." People keep saying he's 45, so for him it would be legal, but they probably decided even so it would be a mistake to keep those lyrics. But I'm totally that's what he originally wrote.

Jeff if you can imagine what a person called 'Mr Crisp' looks like then you get some idea of how exccedingly funny it is going to the supermarket with me bird to select some golden nuggets for the breakfast table. He's a bit like a small elf but only he's a bit chunky so he's also like something from Lord of the Ringpieces. He has specs and constantly frowns. I caught him trying to look cool in front of the girly shop assistants the other day and I did but chuckle to myself.
Anyway, I'm only telling you this because we are kindred spirits... 6 years I spent stacking them shelves and pulling trolleys in from the rain from about 9 mile away in a beck some place. Do you know what... I damaged a rib doing that and it still crunches to this day.
Pastie... this fact has put a whole new spin on Crystal Tips and now I like it even more.

Why would they censor the lyrics for the general public, and then not promote the album for the general public? At least I now know that some decent lyrics were originally intended for the weak points. Censoring could also explain Slow Jam?

Ferris, as I've said before, I think censorship does explain Slow Jam, or at least explains why Slow Jam and not Behind Closed Doors is on the album. I think they kept BCD off the album because of the line "don't take my drugs away."
Censoring in music, ain't it grand?? Kind of like that new eminem thing, what's he in now, D12 or something like that? Anyway, the blue and purple hills were supposed to be pills, but Eric Clapton can get away with talking about cocaine? So, are the powers that be supposing that people today are more impressionable than they used to be???
