Mike Pickering came to Anthony Wilson and suggested that Factory should start a dance label ClubFactory or FactoryDance i think,in 1988. Wilson said its not a good idea and went with Factory Classical instead. This was some 6 years after the Hacienda opened. Pickering went away with his idea-and the record that would of been the first release (Black Box-Ride on Time),and had a hand in DeConstruction Records. Black Box went No.1 for 8 weeks and Factory went bust. Oh and house music has been the biggest sucess in music ever since. Wilson also turned Oasis & The Smiths down.

But AHW has never been a candidate for businessman of the year, has he...!?!!

beats listening to a technically proficient guitar band around a load of beer swallowing "punters" any day.

got to agree with you there stevey boy went many times in 89,there aint been any better club SINCE,you can have your gatecrashers and ministry of sounds,this was the original and best,just a shame that things got as bad as they did! yes we can get all nostalgic about past times but people seem yo forget that the hac was the original rave if you want. there will never be another club which will touch the hacienda,i have been to many of the so called superclubs at home and abroad and they dont hold a candle to the hac!

Thud definition time. At the thud time of asking. I do like some dance music, but the rave/acieed/house scene that the Hacienda was during the late 80s and early 90s was not for me. I think part of my dislike of certain musical genres comes from MTV/NME hijacking of terms/labels etc.

Hardcore = 100mph noisy punk guitar NOT 160bpm thud "dance" Garage = see "low-fi" cheap indie guitar sound NOT plastic soul music R 'n' B - Dr.Feelgood greasy pub rock NOT plastic MTV contrived soul

Hippy John ( not entirely his real name ) was mightily pissed off when he attended an R 'n' B night in M/CR, thankfully it was'nt at the BOTW, that may have killed the poor old soul. Anyway we had to explain it to him very gently. He wont be goin again He isn't aware of the hi-jacking of the Garage label Bless

Spot On! Nothing will ever top the emotion and experience inside Club UK in early 94 listening to Billy Nasty, Justin Robertson, Fabio Paras, Laurent Garnier and some kids called the Dust Brothers amongst hundreds of E-cstatic people. The sense of community, hope and overwhelming emotion matched with out-of-this-world progressive house/techno is still my single most powerful moment in a club or concert. Fuck guitars and the hippy bastards that still think something creative can be done that hasn't already been done before with the dick stick (as i like to call them).

I blame the Mondays for unleashing the horrors of Perfecto, aka Paul Oakenfold, unto the unsuspecting masses of this world.

Perfecto/Oakenfold did so great remixes (unfinished sympathy),but they should have stayed away from New Order. They fuckin ruined World.

They actually transformed a mediocre song into a masterpiece!

Check out the Electronic Music Guide for good examples of various dance/electronic music genres. Quite interesting (at least for us enjoying "dance" music).

BTW: In Sweden we called house-music for umpa-umpa. :)

Being a fan of M People I would like to say that every single was a huge hit... But the biggest ones were: How Can I Love You More?, Someday, One Night In Heaven, Moving On Up, and Sight For Sore Eyes.
