New Order's new album

New Order are currently holed up in a studio in Bath working on their 8th studio album.
Peter Hook confirmed the band are halfway through the recording of what will be their follow up to 2001's Get Ready:
"It's sounding great," he told 6 Music. "It's more Techniquey in its feel than Get Ready is and we're all feeling uppy and it sounds uppy."
The forthcoming album will be the first offering since their collectors box set compilation 'RETRO' which came out late last year. John Leckie and Steven Street have been confirmed as dual producers.
Hooky will also make an appearance at the Rob Gretton Tribute concert on Sunday 23 May at the Ritz in Manchester performing a song with A Certain Ratio.

That's good news... at least we know the "side projects" aren't causing too much problem.
So what, they probably now have recorded 8 songs? (for Get Ready they recorded 15 songs)
So there are 8 new tracks we haven't heard yet... 
Lets hope they`re 8 Temptations & not 8 Rock The Shacks! A new single before christmas? Its lookin good isnt it.

Well if the album is Techniquey, then they've only recorded 4 or 5 songs 
As a huge , huge, huge HUGE fan of echnique, this is just the best news ive heard in a long time. best neworder related news anyhow. :)

Well if the album is Techniquey, then they've only recorded 4 or 5 songs
You should know best... Best & Marsh, Don't Do It, MTO and The Happy One were ALSO recorded with Technique :D

Think they've found a new drug ?! Anyway, if it's like Technique, then that would contradict previous reports about more guitars, and comparisons to Sunrise. Not that I mind, of course, I LOVE Technique.
I just think Peter is fooling around.
Remember, by the time of Get Ready, he said all kind of things..

Having said that I remember reading stuff about tracks they'd written for Get Ready, such as 'epic instrumental'... can't recall that turning up on the album.
Wouldn't get too carried away with the notion that it might be Technique Pt2.
He says it's similar to Technique 'in feel' and it sounds 'uppy'. I'm taking this to mean that the album may have a more positive vibe to it, rather than it necessarily being more dance-oriented.
All other reports have suggested that the guitars will be mixed right up again. Plus there's no Gill to lighten the sound and Barney's on record as saying that the band just can't keep up with the kids today when it comes to releasing pure dance tracks.

On another note, Aussies out there may notice that the article is written by Jane Gazzo for the BBC.
She was the indie-chic face of JJJ for quite a while in the late nineties. Think she's holed up in London these days as a radio DJ / music scribe.

If it sounds anything like Technique, let's all hope it sounds like the second half of Technique.
I was just going to tell you guys about this but itlooks like I've been beaten to it! Pretty good news, I reckon. Hopefully we'll have the album by next summer if they keep going at the rate they are.

good news if its true?. i mean when was the last time we ever heard of new order going into a studio and getting 20-21 tracks down. could be a bit of legg pulling going on ,especially as barney later on in the interview slipped into a cornish accent and started messing about ect. but i hope to god im wrong,id love a new order double album :D

New Order have written 25 songs and finished 8 of them for their new album,which is being produced by John Leckie & Stephen Street.
Bernard Sumner added the band are joined by Electronics Phil Cunningham on guitar. "The writings going a lot quicker with Phil" he said, "Of course Ive got to catch up on the vocals".

No one's saying it's going to be a literal sequel to Technique if you actually read the posts. It's just a question of how it will be "Techniquey" in feel. What does this actually imply? No one knows. Some are assuming this means less GR-style rock, more dancey. I'm suggesting this may not be true. It may still be rock-oriented with a positive "Techniquey" vibe flowing through it.

Phil Cunningham was in Electronic?
Yeah, he was called Johnny Marr at that time, but changed his hairstyle later on and decided to mutate to a really good guitarist. This meant he had to change his name either... Right?!
I recokon as a result of 24 Four Hour Party New Order's fan base has increased a lot since Get Ready so if they get this album right they can expect to sell a lot of copies.
Gillian? Nice boobs? And when did you SEE them? 
Anyway - hope the new album has a 'positive' feel, but sits on top of an absolute s**t load of guitars and a heavy drum mix. Sod the plastic keyboard stuff - it's been overdone, even by New Order.

Just received a text from Baldrick saying they'd done 25 SONGS??????
Surely some mistake! Or are we gonna see their best period of work since Low-Life & Brotherhood? Fingers crossed for a few dates later this year. I could do with something to celebrate:D
