hmm, some of the noolers attending must be waking up right now... and after all those beers and the fact they have to work won´t help much to post a friendly review ;)
but the fact that STILL we have no news of them means the concert was nothing espectacular, with no new NO material and no news about the new album. am i right? 
I gather Barney joined Doves for BLT, but Jimi Goodwin had found out during their soundcheck that his mother had died so I guess that would have put a dampener on things. Credit to the guy for even perfoming.
As my last attempt to post here has vanished, here it is in brief: great night, despite my contriving to avoid all other NOOL-ers [NB - didn't get up to Manc until about 8pm due to crippling hangover from 'secret' Charlatans gig in Stoke the night before). Doves were great; Barney did his, er, 'famous' dancing; ACR were absolutely fucking awesome, with Hooky on top "I'm a fookin' pirate, me!"-form for H&S; the DJs were also great, particularly as the tunes they played seemed to inspire attractive young women to manhandle me repeatedly in an attempt to get me to dance with them - not something that happens very often, needless to say! I left around midnight, so if there was any airing of new NO material I missed it. I did however, have a good spit at the souless corporate bastards who live in the new "Hacienda" flats: overpayed cunts!
Am at work. Think I'm still drunk. Not good. Top night though, but both myself and Liv missed Barney with Doves coz we were too busy yakking in the loos! Liv and my mate Linz both got a kiss from Hooky! Good to see Shug, Rocket Mick, Johnny Giles and the rest of yers. Was loving Pickering and Park playing Hacienda classics - so didn't feel like a Sunday night (which is why I'm in the state I am now..). I feel shocking, typing this has exhausted me already...better go and sleep under my desk now...

Yeah - he just kind of snuck on at the start, read a snippet from the book that "The Hacienda must be built!" quote came from (huge cheers!), and then buggered off after introducing Doves. He went down pretty well, all-in-all.

I was at the bar at the time, so missed all the fun (hmm, see a pattern emerging anyone?!), but apparently he was walking through the crowd and Liv collared him for cheeky peck - think he said something like "All I've done all night is kiss girls!".

Briiliant night...i met STEPHEN and when i told him i was ROCKET MICK from NOOL he said he had been on the site this weekend!
But it gets even better..i said to him "And this is your lovely wife GILLIAN?" to which he replied "NO,that's her sister!".What a top guy though,very pleasant and i was so thrilled to meet him at last i was a bit tongue-tied for the first time(see JOHNNY GILES,SHUGZV and UNCLE LIAM for details.)I missed my train home cos ACR who were brilliant did not start playing to after 10pm.On my way outside and who should be there as i spoke to SHUGZV who had left EARLY due to his girlfriend (lovely lady) being ill(i put that down to 6 hours of ROCKET MICK)
was no other than PETER HOOK himself.I said to SHUGZV.."Back in a minute whilst i have a word with HOOKY".He may of recognized me cos i was at the very front when he had played with ACR,i had sunglasses on ,the BALD head and a JOY DIVISION STILL T-SHIRT on so not easy to forget,again i was a bit in awe.I just said to hime"Nice one HOOKY,great show and you were brilliant tonight".HOOKY smiled broadly and said something like "CHEERS and no problem"...and then we parted.NO I DIDN'T ASK HIM ANY NEW ORDER QUESTIONS. But to meet three out of four of NEW ORDER in two separate times in one night was just too much for the ROCKET.As i got outside of the HACIENDA flats down the road from the gig i swear i had a tear in my eye.More stories and anecdotes to follow but young UNCLE LIAM begged me to show him where STEPHEN and GILLIAN were stood.I gave in and asked him not to PESTER them too much.He came back all smiles with a T-SHIRT signed by them.

BARNEY was great with THE DOVES but it was a shame about the singer's mother they played a very moving set.ACR were great and HOOKY was HOOKY at his best.I will let UNCLE LIAM tell you the story about what he said to him from the stage!

Great night, i left at 1. Everyone probably thought i was mental going around with a camera and a marker pen. Got me photo with gillian and steve and they, along with ACR, Rowetta and erm... Miranda Sawyer, signed my t-shirt on the back and numerous Onliners and randoms signed the front. I have "from brazil!" wrote on my left arm!
Does anyone know what Hooky was talking about when he said to me "you're the next to die" when he came on for Heart and Soul?
Big thanks to the Shugster for putting up with me for most of weekend. And cheers to everyone who i met last night

No, it means that not everybody is totally obsessed ! It sounds as those there had a great time. Big respect to Jimi Goodwin though, that cannot have been an easy show to play in the circumstances.

UNCLE LIAM what HOOKY said was that he mentioned those who have passed away before us,he mentioned MARTIN,IAN,ROB and the DOVE'S lead singers mother and some others.He the said who will it be next and looked straight at YOUWhat you didn't know was that i just about managed to duck down behind you so he couldn't mean ME!

I dont know who Steve was more confused by, me or Rocket!
I asked him steve about his daughter, drinks, and my finals. He wished me good luck. I said to him when he was signing my t-shirt and i said had me finals this week and i had travelled from Belfast to see this. He said i was "keen" but i think he meant "psychotic". Also talked about macclesfield. Two great photos, one with me, steve and gillian and one with steve with five empty glasses.
Steve, if your reading this, i do apoligise, if i ever see you again, i'll try and be normal.
I havent a clue what hooky was talking about. he just came on and said "you're the next to die". I was like "yeah, hooky spoke to me!" Rocket mick will testify for the grin i had on my face.

He's just phoned from work , he was overwhelmed to recieve a drink from the ROCKET , his mum also says I am not to be trusted to look after him again , our kid reckons it's all part of lifes rich tapestry , though he was horrified to learn of beer spillage. more scams and stories to follow MR ROCKET

Just a thought Nick, but given David Sultan's band connections and the stated wish of yourself to get this site accredited, it might be time to stop the quasi-jest of "the dark side" references to WIM, and start accepting that he's here to stay ? I know there have been issues in the past, but haven't we all got those somewhere along the line ?

It seems from Rowetta's site that Hooky was actually indicating and addressing Tony Wilson, not Uncle Liam !
If he visited the "other" site he'd probably doze off! (no offence to Sultan as i've met the guy and he's cool) but the forum creaks along at a snails pace compared to this one dont yer think...

It's been a long time since I've buried the hatchet my friend... the "dark side" reference don't come from me 
Even if I had his connections, I wouldn't do what's he doing.. honestly, I don't know what the hell I could talk with the band in front of me, so I'd rather stay behind the scene :D
So seriously, it's good for him if he likes it, I wouldn't mind to get some news from the band's management of course, but well, it's not that important, we know it anyways when it happens!

I think that is clear evidence that he does come here as he had a glint in his eye like he recognized another STAR!:DI was NOT expecting him to mention the site but i had told him where i posted,this is when he said he had been on the site this very weekend.That's what i mean about him being a TOP GUY,even if he doesn't he at least knows GOOD PUBLICITY when he sees it.He may have been humouring me but this meeting only got absurd when the two GILLIAN'S got CONFUSED by me.Fancy one of their fans not being able to recognize some one so close to the band still.May have been the dark lighting and the fact that she was probably avoiding ME! The highlight for me was when Barney sang with the Dove's it was a cracking rendition of Bizzare Love Triangle. I think the Dove's performance was very good too condidering Jimi Goodwin's mother died yeterday.
I also met Stephen Morris who was stood near the recording booth. I also saw Badly Drawn Boy again (I can't escape from him!) as well the women who interviews New Order (don't know her name)
It was a good night but I wasn't too keen on Mr Sruff, it dragged on far too much. A few more New Order classics would have been nice.

How the fuck did you get your camera in? The bastards on the door told me I had to get rid of mine so I trudged mournfully back to the car and dumped it before returning to the Ritz. FOOK KNOWS quite how I managed to miss everyone - I must have spent 45 minutes wandering round looking for familiar faces - in the end I dedcided you must all be posh-nobs upstairs and gave up. I did catch a glimpse of Major T (not difficult as him and his mate were probably the tallest people there!), but he vanished into the ether all-too-rapidly. Given Mick's report I was probably only stoody 6 or seven metres from the bunch of you. Oh well, we'll have to wait until Tim & co.'s JD/NO extravaganza.
I would just like to reiterate my earlier point about ACR - they are the funkiest fuckers I have ever witnessed and I cannot believe I've never got round to seeing them before. SOOOOOOOOO much better live than on record, just sublime.....
Twas a damn good night. I pushed past Hooky and then suddenly realised who it was. Oops.

I had a really good night. Left at about 12 cos I was knackered and had to travel back to Newcastle today. Thought the Ritz turned out to be a good place to hold it after all (wasn't really sure to expect beforehand!!)
Amazing night. Great to finally meet the legend Rocket Mick 
- hours of entertainment - along with Gary and Liam.
My favourite moments were Barney's dancing and seeing Hooky, Gillian and Steven in the crowd. Thought Dove's set was brilliant, the fact it was acoustic really enhanced it, ACR were as good as ever!

Did anybody else think Mr Sruff (I assume it was him who played between The Doves and ACR) went on a bit? I really hate that kind of music (no offence to anybody that loves it) I am just an indie kid, I like the Doves, New Order, Joy Division, The Verve, James etc not that stuff he was playing.
I just hope I didn't make too much of a foul of myself when I went up to Stephen Morris in my Joy Division t-shirt and say "are you stephen morris I think you're a great drummer"
Having spent the entire afternoon and most of the evenign travelling, i have remembered some things about my conversation with Steve.
I told him that he is the 2nd most famous person i've ever met, after Brian Lara, and he said he didnt know if that were a compliment or not. I also told him that Selfish is a great record and he said "oh good." Actually mentioned something about a gig in Belfast to him and he said they've only played there once. I told him it wasnt worth playing there (sorry shelley) now that i'm leaving.

That ACR set list you had was quality, printed up with the Fac 511 design on it. Most of the band had signed it when I saw you on the stairs chatting with Denise Johnson who was looking very do-able. When you shouted over to me, she looked at me and went 'are you Johnny Giles?!' laugh? I nearly asked her if she'd bought a new Tambourine :D
Thought the whole event was first class, shame this can't be an annual event. Doves and ACR were immense. How much does Hooky love it? Born to perform, that geezer. The way he held his bass up to the crowd when he came on, like, this is my weapon! Nice burst of AOC too, a la Brixton Academy.

Ness and Mel for giving me floor space and a quality w/e, Brett Attrocity Exhibit for sorting out the tickets, this fella spent ages talking to half the box offices in Mcr to track them down and came thru' like a good'n, nice one, I owe you. Hope the exams go well!. Mr and Mrs Mickey Way, Jaz, Iain and Bunny - thanks to you and Kevo for the other ticket, Shug and Tamsin, Rocket 'gag a minute' Mick, Jim & Mrs, Liv & Kezzie - good to see you both after soo long, Major T, Liam - NOs future is safe with mad young fans like you, John McV, David Sultan and GaryMac, good to put a face to your name and an ear to your tales, shame bout your shades they were looking good!.
Star spotting - Badly Drawn Boy was hanging around on the steps out the front at the end looking more scruffy than Mr Scruffy. Miranda Sawyer was mooching about with some Irish comedian who I saw a couple of months back but can't remember his name. 3 Gilbert sisters who practically look like triplets. Good to see them and Steve Morris all standing in line with everyone else outside The Ritz before the start, had the makings of the scene from 24 HrPP, only this time they got allowed in.
Not the type given to much envy, but it indeed sounds like a brilliant night out. Quite enjoyable reading all of the stories of everybody.

Can't beat a bit of Northern Soul fella, and thought Mr Scruff's set was a nice touch as a bit of a tribute to Rob Gretton's roots as a Northern Soul DJ - I thought it was a bit of a shame that more people weren't getting into and dancing to be honest.
I am not objecting the fact they played it, I can understand it, but it lasted too long. The night just seemed to start off so well, even though I didn't arive till 8:00 because Stagecoach seemed to think it was funny two miss two buses out.
One thing is for sure though I defanatly I am going to see New Order live at my earliest oppurtunity, I was very impressed with what I saw and Stephen Morris was so genuine considering he was the drummer in one of the most infuential bands ever.
I didn't like being searched though thats the first time thats ever happened to me when going to clubs in Manchester (which is quite often)

Ordinarily I wouldn't have bothered (pretty much gave up on them after their peak LP "Up to Our Hips"), but as it was just up the road in a wee venue and all me mates were going.....they were actually great, and I really enjoyed it. They played "Can't Even Be Bothered" - me all-time fave Charlies tune - and though they're all looking older and worse-for-wear than New Order (no, really!), it was a good gig: you should have a good 'un in London, mate!
And the Northern Soul tunes at the Ritz were fantastic as well - everyone seemed to have the moves where I was, and as I mentioned earlier up this thread, attractive young blondes (clearly E'd off their heads, mind) kept putting their hands all over me in an effort to get me to dance, so Mr Scruff is grrrrrreeeeeeaaaaaaaat as far as I'm concerned....

She used to get on my bus when I lived in Chorlton. I love her - Primal Scream doing Screamdelica-era stuff live without her is just wrong IMO.

Met Hooky who promised to get a photie done, but the bastard never came back, mind, he was getting hassled by everyone, Liam told me about Stephen and Gillian, but after meeting Liam, the last thing they'd need was Shug going over to say hello. Fair play to The Doves after the bad news, Barney was ace - said hello to Rowetta, missed Badly Drawn Boy, but did meet GaryMac "Badly Drunk Boy":D Will fill in more details after I've had something to eat. Detox and shakes. With Celtic winning the Scottish Cup, then FF and Moz and Rob's tribute it's safe to say I have drunk the quivalent of 6 months worth and smoked me way through several rain forests

So seriously, it's good for him if he likes it, I wouldn't mind to get some news from the band's management of course, but well, it's not that important, we know it anyways when it happens!

I think some bridges might have to be built first - there's no reason for the band's management to want to provide information to this site at the moment, not when WIM has a link with the band themselves. If you really want to be taken seriously as something of benefit to the band's management, a whole load of changes will be needed round here, such as clamping down on the promotion of illegal file sharing (which to be fair was done) and stamping on idiots claiming to have the new songs on minidisc (which could well have turned out very nasty had the song ever found its way into the public domain via this means). There's a great online community here, but that in itself won't pave the way to acceptance and accreditation, which is what you seem to want !

Dunno where to begin, cheers have to go out to Uncle Liam for being a beer monster and keeping me out till 3 in the morning after the Mozzer gig, good to see you cheering on the Celts in O'Sheas as well young man Rickety Mick for being even camper than his big brother FRED ELLIOT. Pity we never got any pictures of him dancing - but his banter kept everyone amused / bemused all day, poor Ness didn't know what hit her. Johnny Giles and Mel as well, and JT (and Lucy later) for braving the Rocket too. I hope you found Nicky Mr Mac, I should also mention your stories are still fresh in the mind. 2 and a half grand Twas a pleasure to meet up with Liv and Kezbah, slightly less of a pleasure to bump into Major though I think I have pictures with just about everyone again, including two of the young lads from Shameless. MAD FOR IT. who were outside Dukes. Shame you couldn't get on board any earlier Frads - you missed a good one, and no doubt big Al will be gutted too. Missed Mickey Way and missus and Iain and Bunny too. Nevertheless a great craic had by everyone, look forward to the next pish up later this year.

acr tend to have quite a "rigid" set..(it is fantastic normally)..i was just wondering if they fluctuated for this special occasion.
before someone mentions it i realise heart and soul is about as big a fluctuation as you get..
you guys were lucky to catch them...there are not many better live bands
I spoke to Martin Moscrop about the lack of Flight and he said it wasnt really fitting with the night. He's got a point.
As for the ACR setlist. Its around somewhere. I'm back in manchester, i will TRY and and find it. I think i had it when i got in on monday morning. If i find it, rest assured i will scan it and upload it.
I'm really disappointed I missed this gig. :( All the reviews I've read seem to reflect a really moving night full of great music and genuine performances in honour of a departed mate. Just a shame that I had an exam on the day! 
Otherwise I would've been on the train to MancLand in a shot.
Rowetta's photos are really interesting, nice one there! Gives us folks who didn't have the chance to go a feeling of what the overall night was like. I would've loved to have seen ACR doing Won't Stop Loving You, and of course Barney's stuff with Doves. Actually, Doves are really one of my favourite bands since I had a chance to meet them on the Last Broadcast tour and they were very down-to-earth and just nice geezers. Was very sorry to hear Jimi's mother had passed away shortly before the gig.

It isn't quite as bouncy. I was having a chat with someone about it and apparently they have re-laid it. You still stick to the carpet though :)
After my chat with Stephen Morris which was went opened up with me asking him "are you stephen morris" I got the impression he was a very genuine down to earth person. The Doves appear to be the same, unlike Badly Drawn Boy who could only be seen being interviewed.
I think the Doves are possibly one of the best bands to come out of Manchester since Joy Division/New Order. The Happy Mondays are not to my musical taste but I regonise their talent and I am very greatful for Rowetta for posting the pictures up of the night.

Not sure I understand this? There's nothing untoward in the lyrics - or is it simply because it's too mournful and the night was supposed to be a celebration? Then again, they played Heart & Soul.

The floor was bouncing when I was on it for BLT.....but that's probably cos we also had Major, The Rocket and Liam pongoing
