Time To Sail Away Into The Sunset ?

I'm fully aware that I'm gradually approaching the salubrious 1000-post mark, but I've been doing a lot of thinking lately, namely....how can I keep on posting here and ensuring at least some of what I say is still of interest to others? I really don't wish to outstay my welcome and slide into self-parody, something I'm increasingly conscious of....so I thought maybe after 1000 posts I could just quietly disappear if possible and hope no one notices..... I think it'd be a great point in which to stop. End on a high....whatever..... Some of you guys may protest and insist I stay....but like I said, I'm thinking about a couple of options anyway......

Unlike Hooky Monster, who wanted his name completely erased from the site, I'd certainly like to keep the profile "live" but I could still ensure I appear here in spirit if not exactly in person, such as upload a different crazy pic each week or so.....maybe just to keep the laughs coming. So all you have to do is click into the member profile and see what I look like from week to week or something..... I reckon that might be a good  To communicate thru just pictures, rather than the all-too-predictable rants that I've now become renowned for..... This may sound incredible but even I can run out of things to say or shout about....!! I don't have an endless seam of anger, disgust and outrage to tap into you know!!....I'm still human (well, relatively....)

Anyway, I'm still enjoying the laffs and endless gossip on these pages so all I can do at present is to not waste all my posts: to tell you the truth, I'm in no real hurry to get to the magic 1000 - there's a few others here who are nearly level with me, so maybe they can overtake me in order to become the 3rd, 4th or whatever. As long as the server, ISP etc, doesn't cause me to post the same thing in 3 times, I will ensure that I use my next three dozen or so posts sparingly. I just think it's time I started to slow down a little and stop rattling off like a loose cannon. Bloody hell, it all sounds really morose doesn't it...but I assure you it isn't...there hasn't been any big lifechanging event in recent days to impair my judgement (but then again, the cynics amongst you would love to think that my judgement was always impaired....come on down Niel!! !!...tut tut tut!!!! ). And NO! I'm certainly not settling down to have a family or summat as cacky and predictable as that - GOD NO! Check Shug's Room 101 thread for ample proof of where I stand on THAT front!!

Anyway, my various bands have got some gigs to prepare/rehearse for over the coming weeks, so that will keep me busy and may even mean I won't be able to post as often as I'd like......

Okay....see you in the threads somewhere then......Keep The Faith! :)

love Marty.

Well, I won't say much, here. Maybe just 2 things :

  1. You have to respect someone's decision and if that's Martin's decision, so...

  2. Then again, my old pal, you've got such a way to dramatize everything you say and do on this board. You're talkinh about leaving quietly after the 1000 mark but put now so much emphasis on it, I mean, no one couldn't notice this...

So, if you do stop posting, I'm gonna miss you Martin, But as I said, I will respect your decision, even if it's a bit too well staged...

Moi, a cynic, au contare mon fere i have nothing but admiration for you Marty boy - all your posts lead to a healthy (and at times quite comical) debate. I for one with feel this place will become sadly lacking without your searing insight to the state of nation.

sooo in the words of a certain song

"please don't go, awwwwway"

I suppose you could always come back in eight years time and just post the same message every night :)

Surely there isn't a meltdown around the 1000 posts mark is there ? Mine started around 30 posts, but hasn't been too painful so far. Stick with it MG, nobody else has ever mentioned obscure Fall bootlegs !!

Sad times lay ahead of us, but then again , a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. Could your decision/thoughts be influenced in any way by the wonderful concerts our four friends have been giving over the past months, thus leaving you in a desolate state of mind now they are finished?(except down under)That is the case with me for a fact!!

And did you know that my first name actually IS....David?? (that's why I use my middle name, Martin, instead, cause I could well imagine the consternation that would cause....ho ho) Spookier.....!!!

Which one Mario - I seem to play drums with a different one every week!!!

Take your pick: Basher; Aggrokulture; Wedding In Rio; Gold Blade; Legs Wide Open. (okay, I made that last one up  )

Pity about that last one!!Sounds like a wonderful band!!Imagine the chicks coming to see you with a name like that.

It's just occured to me that if you want to sail away into the sunset, you'll have to wait till summer. Plus, you need to be present when the new Chemicals collaboration comes out. I'm hoping you won't like it and you'll send your fighting smilies into battle the whole Ep. By the way Martin, how old are you? I'm on the cusp of turning 30 and i never thought i'd live to see 25. It's taken me 4 years to get over being dissappointed that i didn't die young. St. Etienne should remix the next New Order single (train of thought diverted to Too Young To Die)

Look at my profile, Brian, admire the pic (which changes regularly).

I know I probably won't see much of the other side of 40 because I'm getting so fucking angry about life in general in my advancing middle age now that my body will probably short-circuit before too long......

Dear Martin, don't die, someday we'll be dignified and old....

This place wouldn't be as interesting without you, so please put your retirement on hold until you really feel you've sunk into "I remember the time when..." doldrums (ie discussing the British Army's follies in India, that horrible twat Hitler and his disagreeable brood, and decrying the influx of Pakistanis in London). When you get to be that bad, you'll know it's time to go, but until then....

Martin...

I expressly forbid you to leave us on a permanent basis.

That being said, we all seem to get such a kick out of your diatribes on the problems in Engerland, and you make me forget about how crappy things are on this side of the pond.

So take a brief hiatus if you need to...but don't be gone too long...

Martin,

In the words of KWS (I think thats what they were called)..."Please dont go" "Babe I love you soooooo and i want you to know., that im gonna need your love, the mintue you walk out the door...please dont go, dont gooooooo, dont, go awayyyy"

Jeez, after all that exertion, i think i need a lie down...

But you get the picture xxx

Thanks, everyone - I'm dearly touched - no really.
But yesterday (Saturday) was a shit day....on a number of counts. Obviously the first, though by no least the most soul-destroying, was not being able to view any further replies/threads, etc, due to some prolonged hitch here at NOO. The second was, I'd just reached the end of what was probably the worst and most stressful week I'd endured since the combined twin traumas of losing my Las Vegas, Nevada-based grandmother just a few months short of her 100th birthday and then seeing the horror of what happened in New York on Sept 11 (then again the events on Nov 12). This week saw me arguing everyday with my best friend and housemate, losing money in places I've never done so before, catching a bloody flu bug from all six of my work colleagues (who'd been harbouring the festering disease in relay for the best part of five weeks now - what a relative relief it didn't affect my Amsterdam sabbatical then, but still, I'd rather not have caught it). Then, thirdly, as if that wasn't bad enough, I had to reluctantly will my currently fast -disintegrating torso to propel its pathetic self into a drizzle-ridden, piss'n'vomit-strewn Stockport Hellcity (the shopping precinct) to at least check out what new delights I could get hold of in an effort to cheer myself up - not least the latest, belated NO flop single "60MPH" from whichever shack would bother to stock it. BUT! The place was strewn and crawling with Liv's favourite type of people (work that one out Liv dear, I'm sure you've guessed), all humming like dead dogs on a hot day in their favourite winter-season designer street-urchin attire. Horrible! Then there were the carol singers.... THE CAROL SINGERS!!!! I ASK YOU??!!! IN NOVEMBER!!! I was seriously hoping to see the EASTER BUNNY at some point, fucking hell! And HMV - fuck me - what a horrible place that is - all of the aforementioned loathsome specimens (apart from the carol singers - though they'd now assumed the form of the latest "Now" Xmas- cash-in compilation of course - and the Easter Bunny) were present in a heaving stinking mass....Then , as if that wasn't enough, when I finally DID track down the future "In-at-#48-with-a-bullet-then-crash-out-with-an -anvil-tied-round-its-neck" hit from our heroes, it was crying out pathetically to me across the masses of sweating, writhing bodies, surrounded, and almost suffocated (which I'm sure it will, given tonight's chart position announcement of course) by releases from LOADS of other bands - U2, REM, S Club 7, The Charlatans, Jamiroquai, Staind, and about eight other shit chart regulars all of which, no doubt will effortlessly leapfrog over 60MPH to gain all of the positions within the top 30 tonight. (So which wag said this week was a quiet week for new releases from big names on another thread elsewhere? COME ON DOWN, you idiot!!) So, with the realisation, once again, that London Fucking Records had ONCE AGAIN plotted to destroy the shrinking chart career of NO by coinciding this release with about 400 other BIG names in the sadistic knowledge that the single would not have a gnat's chuff in hell's chance of doing well with all that competition about, I grab hold of the CD 1 and forget about CD2 - despite its attempts to coerce me into buying it with it's bared navel on the cover - (remember, I do not wish to Line the fucking record company's fat pockets any further than I have to, so such a harsh decision had to be made in the circumstances, knowing full well that ONE extra CD bought won't make bally-all difference to its fucking chart fortunes, thus alleviating my feelings of any guilt that may arise as a result........anyway , MULTI -CD FORMATTING STINKS !!!!) - and leg it to the counter, pay up, and leave without looking back. It was a further three hours before I got home.......and boy, was I fucking depressed after that harrrowing thoroughly joyless experience. Now you understand why I feel so fed up about things at the moment. Not to worry. It's only 4 weeks to Christmas......oh.....whoopeeeeeeee!!
