I'm sure many of you here on the site have heard the demo with Steve on vocals...Is it just me or is this the worst quality demo You've ever heard??? I can't make out a word Steve says....are the lyrics the same??? It was probably reccorded before Bernard put final touches on it so maybe the first 2 verses are different??
They only had the lyrics to the 3rd verse (one Ian wrote) when they became NO...so just curious....
Actually, part of the reason the song is weak is that the drums aren't being played by Steve - he's busy singing, so the entire drum track is programmed. The song is rhythmically extremely complex, at least as far as the Joy Division rehearsal is concerned (i.e., the JD box set version), but all that's lost...
For me, I find Steve's voice has a certain charm to it, but overall, true, the version is not something you need to hear more than once or twice.
