Supplementary question, how many of the above will either

a) never post again after the initial question b) get abusive and cocky when someone yawns as a reply......?

Well, to take the bait, one could argue that US fans of New Order are in fact the more resolute fans...

We care about the band despite having few to none chances to ever see them live, despite not having easier access to any media about them, and despite being musical heathens in a warmongering nation obsessed with country-western and hiphop music...

You think it is hard being a New Order fan in Britain? Try America...

We American New Order fans have to WORK for our allegiance.

And thus, yes, we all go a bit apesh*t wondering if they will tour North America.... sorry about that. And apologies in advance for the new teen fans in the States who develop an interest in New Order, find this website via google, and wonder aloud if they will get to ever see them live in their lifetimes... (an older US fan like myself who has seen them 6 times, which is a lot for an American, can only applaud such newbie passion... I mean, isn't it cool to know that New Order still generates interest, even in other countries???)

And thus, yes, we are GRATEFUL to have a great website like this...

Cause WE are not spoiled... :p

Given that NO appeared on that Iraq charity lp which also featured well known enemy of the state Cat Stevens (not to mention their choice of song on said album), they'll probably be refused entry by the INS anyway. Gives them an excuse for their laziness at least.

Boy, we American's get a bad rap, don't we? Well, I'll refrain from asking if they will appear in the U.S. and will also refrain from getting abusive! Wouldn't want to have to get the U.N. involved, now would we? I do apologize on behalf of abusive people whether from teh U.S. or other... not getting to see NO live can do that to a person... :p

 Don't I know it. I drove 5 hours through heat and dust storms and very little sleep just to see them the one time I've been able to see them....and had to put up with people screaming "OUTKAST!!!!OUTKAST!!!" through the last half of the set. Then I had to put up with Outkast...they're much better in the studio. But through all that trouble, I was very happy to finally see them, even though the set was too short, I was almost 30, and had been wanting to see them since I was 14.

How many get pissed off with people who don't have proper lives/jobs so giving them enough time to post 9000+ posts & believe they know everything about NO/JD Just because they've done so. Heh?

Yes, I am talking about you (& others).

I suggest you read the community standards btw... there are rules to respect on this website.

Yes, it's getting boring for most regulars when you see the same questions always come back after a little while, but that's life, new people come here and don't always know everything.

Criticising people for being naive is, obviously, your problem. Thinking you're god's gift, seems to be another.

Hi

Just did: Respectfulness – We expect our member to show respect for others. Respecting their person, their musical tastes, their time and their opinions – even if you disagree with them.

I believe He is contravening the above.

apart from the same one, what am I guilty of?

In recent months there's been a posts, like this one, that contain pompousness & arrogance. From people who've post many times, & just because of this, think they know every little fact about NO. They then get critical & throw a girly tantrum when it's pointed out that, in fact, that they don't. A recent example being the Kevin Hewitt threads.

Please read Miss D.'s response.

Dave, I think you've missed the in-joke a bit here. Almost every time somebody starts a new thread with their first post on the site, someone (who shall remain nameless but isn't me) responds by advising them that the subject matter already exists on x number of threads already. Sometimes this meets with an arsey response from the new poster, sometimes it doesn't.

At no stage of my posting this intended joke thread was there any attempt to be pompous, know-all or any of the other charges you want to level at me, it was simply that, a joke that those who have been here a while would be in on. Surely that isn't a crime or a breach of any of the terms of use of the site?

For the record, seeing as you raised it, I have an excellent job that pays me very well, a full and happy life, and have learned a lot more from my colleagues and friends on here than I would ever have learned had I stayed in isolation away from this community. I have 9500 posts because I have made quite a significant contribution to the development of this community, helping those who run the site and other contributors to fill in the gaps with the benefit of involvement with the JD/NO scene stretching back over 25 years. I wish I did know it all, I'd write a book about them!

Like there has been 5 or 6 threads to tell us that Ceremony is used in the trailer for "The Life Aquatic" ;)

I got the irony on this one, it wasn't meant to disrespect US members, as far as I know, I get mails daily about people asking me when they will tour in their country... and I believe the first post of the spanish and portuguese forums is a petition to bring them to South America.

Unfortunatly for us, non-Brits.. it's difficult to know if they will tour in our part of the world... I got screwed the last time because I thought they would do New York or any east coast city, but one thing for sure, you never know with them, they did tour in Australia and Japan the last time...

Come on Dave, name names. If the implication that someone has no life/job because they've posted a lot of times then I'd love to read your in-depth explanation of that.

I've posted here for three+ years, I work for an Investment Bank and am a J2EE Developer. That's, like, 12hrs a day, every day, working in Browsers. So, figure I am gonna access NOOL every day. It's Sunday fucking night too and I'm stuck in the office so it's a welcome release. Also, I actually KNOW a lot of people who post here. Like, I've been out with a fair few of them for gigs, drinks and what-have-you. So I'm gonna resent the insinuation that some of us have no lives/jobs just cos we've posted a lot. Quite the opposite I'd have said, in most instances.

What a strange stance to take Dave , at a certain figure you feel a person lacks a life or is perhaps sad ?

For myself I've almost put 12 months in , I remember hittin 100 posts 'cos I got a few congrats from other nools, I'd never been on one of these forum sites before and was a tad unsure about how to react , so I remembered what me Ma had taught me and said cheers , cos Ma says it's nice to be nice , I hit the 666 post and I was accused by one of the colonials of satanism or somesuch crime , Ma has never had to give out any advice about the ettiquete of dealing with colonials with a Matthew Hopkins bent , so I stuck with her initial advice and said cheers ... with some reservations . I hit a 1000 and didn't realise , not to worry , my new friends in this on-line community , pointed it out and agaain I remembered Ma's advice etc .

The point is Dave , I never felt sad or worthless , employment wise I please me fuckin self , a position I can afford 'cos I worked like a cunt for a few years , which often made me feel sad , but never sad in the definition you favour , so I post when I want .

So , at what point and figure does one hit sad ?

Or , and I'm just fuckin guessin here , do you have to be a bit fuckin insecure in the first place , do you have to worry about someone else thinkin your sad and as a result join that doctrine or mindset before they take the piss ? Now a fella who thought like that would be very sad , critical even .

And at the risk of blowin smoke up some of the founder members and contributors arses ( cos most of em are cunts ), I think they've done a great job keepin this place alive ... even without a fac number  The site survives on it's contributions / postings , even the ones I or you may find offensive , or do not ' get '

And anyway , Timbo deletes posts too , the true figure is anyones guess , and so what ?: The bloke promotes the site , I assume you aint his boss ( in which case tims count is showin in error ) so that aint your problem and very occasionaly he says nice things to people .... however at heart he probably is a cunt :p Though I doubt he's a nasty cunt .

That's the last time I defend you old timers bytheway , pleasant as it was :moon:

I think Dave that you should perhaps pay a little more attention. My overwhelming impression of those that gather on this site (especially those with high post counts) is their willingness to welcome and assist newcomers. Perhaps there is a certain skewed humour here but surely that is only befitting a New Order site. I felt truly welcomed here when my Ryder cup thread was ridiculed, maybe I am just a sad cunt with a low post count!

there seems to be a correlation between the number of post count and the number of times 'c*nt' is typed....

must be nice for the female fans to read these threads...

(someone said something about reading the forum rules a few posts back... hmmmmm.....)

Allow me, my friend. "Cunt" can be taken many ways, as a tea brewed with the dried leaves, as an insult, as a term of friendly respect. I'll leave it up to you to decide which befits.

I was gonna reply to this earlier, but it was that good I thought I'd show the missus this thread. Best thread in ages. She thinks you write like Irvine Welsh Mr Mac, personally I can't see it masel;) Tis good to see our humour doesnae offend everyone, and I can hold my hands up and say I've only ever insulted one person on here, whom took offence to being called a "fuckwit" - this caused a furore for all of 5 minutes and was sorted out by me emailing the person. Can't even remember who it was, but ye's all know what my memory is like.

The tribute album was called "Community" because that's what this place is. Everyone says the odd daft thing, but in the end it sorts itself out one way or another.

The missus wasnae happy with the quote from Ole Tarbox either, she's certainly not offended by the word Cunt, I cannae speak for anyone else's missus, but maybe people who complain about this word, should read more of the posts and try grasping our humour over here:beer:

Good points were also made by some of our American friends, I know it must be tough hardly ever seeing the band, I remember AgentWood, Churchy, Jeff, Green and Biznotic G-Man complaining while we were over there last year. Save yer pennies peeps, cos I doubt they will be over next year. Anyone wants to stay here just has to give me a shout......and £100 a night:thumb:

It's a sensitive topic this... obviously! :) Personally speaking I've been a dedicated NO/JD fan for almost a decade and I've only really got about 7X posts so far on NOOL (at last count) plus I've followed the site perhaps not as a member, but certainly since the early "Temptation" incarnation. I can see the argument from both sides... I'll freely admit I could never envisage myself posting 9000+ (I think regardless of anything that is a pretty intense number :P), but each to their own. I simply don't have that "daily" interest in New Order that other folks here seem to have (but good for them, whatever floats your boat etc.) Similarly for seasoned members it can be a bit tedious to see the same topics come up again and again, but as someone earlier in the post said we are all "newbies" at one stage or another.

I really enjoy posting on NOOL, but I have to be really interested in the topics otherwise I simply can't be bothered :D hence my relatively small number of posts. At the same time I've found between NO album releases, I tend to listen to the band less and less, while I discover other "fresh" music and see other bands gig. It's nothing against New Order at ALL, they're still perhaps my favourite band ever, but it's hard to get enthusiastic about yet another discussion about the guitar solo in Ceremony for the 54th time, but it's only natural when the band release a new LP or start gigging new fans and "old" questions appear.

I'd say, older members remain calm and newer members do a forum search before posting ;)

Ally.

I think it's OK if people come here just to ask info, it's not like you have to be an active member of every forum of every band you like... Say I'm a Depeche Mode fan, if I wanna know if they tour I don't become an active member of the forum before asking it, I wouldn't have the time at all... I know it's hard because this is not actually an official site, but it's probably the closest thing... You could put a notice on the forum: before asking about news, check the news archive of the last month, so if there are any live dates they see it...
