What do you think of Krafty? as they say in "the day today"

for my part, i think its "better than expected" and a bit of a grower too

Sounded too "2000's". Not retro nor "avant garde". Seems New Order wanted to sound just... actual.

Playing it safe to me ...very radio friendly ....very average ...i was expecting something a little bit different than the Get Ready era..maybe somthing a little bit 'dark'..lets hope the album produces something a little bit cutting edge...

and as for the lyrics ...well...

Could fit on Brotherhood or Technique easily. Not the grandest of classics, but a solid first single all the same.

That was pretty good I think. That should be good enough to get some good radioplay for sure. I'm gonna write emails to some of my favorite radiostations when this comes out and request it.

That's half their catalogue! Recognisably NO if a little light. Maybe more of a summer toon.

Get the feeling their throwing in all the trademark stuff in one song. The Hookie bass intro (first couple of notes I thought it was BM!), Electronic style synth washes, catchy chorus and Bernard's guitar bit at the end. Not bad bit of a grower 5 out of 10.

Dont you all get it...Krafty is New Order, Electronic, Monaco and The Other Two all thrown into one....its just hit me! I think its a superb track. Lyrics are a bit Electronicy...but its gonna get loads of radio play. Will it get to number one!!! With all the kids downloading now we may have a chance if we all buy it....twice!!

Just the kind of Music I love. Not too guitary and not too keyboardy. And a nice fast beat. Just perfect.

It's definitely a pop song and it definitely has a hook to it. After a brief couple of listens this morning it was stuck in my head for most of the day. Rather than making comparisons or contrasts to their previous work or side projects, my opinion is more on the song itself as a single work. It's catchy, it's well mixed, it's radio friendly, and it has a modern sound. Even though I'm listening to a sub quality mp3, I can still hear how solid the low end is in this mix. Can't wait to listen to the full version.

Just a few things I've noticed about the production for anyone interested in this stuff enough to sort through my rambling... As I mentioned, the kick drum has a nice solid punch but also has a lot of well balanced sub energy to it for the extra thunder. Hooky's bass was recorded so you can really hear the pick attack against the strings gving it just enough of a percussive element to pull it out of the wash of the strings. The sparse arrangement builds with the strings swelling in volume making for a nice transition into the chorus. Also notice that the snare drum sound changes from dull lo-fish sample to a real snare with a nice room reverb sound on it. It helps bring the chorus in with more power and the verb on the drums add a bit of width underneath the guitars. The vocal is layered at this point with two distinct backing vocals of the same verse but sung differently adding to the width of the chorus as well but also keeps them each apart from the music. The second verse pretty much folds back to the same arrangement as the first by letting us back down with a sparser composition of strings, synth, and drums. Notice how the snare drum changes again at this point to the sound it started as. The lead into the second chorus in pretty much the same fashion as before. The "wobbly" synth noise although seemingly out of place adds a nice contrast and an element of interest during the intermezzo as does the sudden break in the drums. The drum sound has remained consistent since the second chorus maintaing the power needed for the arrangement and energy theat flows into the third and final chorus. Whether you like it or not, there is some fantastic production going on here. I'll give it my thumbs up seal of approval.

Somewhere inbetween So-so and Better than Expected. I don't want to say the latter because my hopes were really running quite high! But it's still thoroughly good and not a bummer, got a nice hook to it. OMG AND THE WOBBLY SYNTH.

I voted so-so because I have a feeling I'll have another song I'll much prefer on the album somehow :)

I'm kind of torn. On one hand I'm disapointed it wasn't a blow me away single, but it does have a catchy verse and is radio friendly. Then I started thinking what New Order single really floored me the first time I heard it.

On Technique I didn't care much for Fine Time when it first came out and thought Round & Round was a much better song and should have been the first single released off of Technique. So who know's. May be Jetstream will be the Round & Round off of Sirens Call.

It's not as profound as Crystal or Here to Stay, but it is a solid song. It sounds too clear and organized to be on Brotherhood but too simple for Technique.

Instantly appealing to me. This may grow on you naysayers but we'll all probably be sick of it by the time the album hits the shelves.

Solid New Order track. No question.

Upbeat, great bass, solid Morris drums, fickering guitar and some lyrics that can mean anything. . .

It sounds modern and it still sounds like New Order. Not an easy feat. Nice fucking job.

I dont like it - the lyrics (& their melody) make it too poppy & bland 4 me - im allready remixing it on my crappy techno ej just to give it an edge

Well, i like you all to remember that this is supposed to be a "single", so it has to be (in some way) suitable for getting radio airplay (which in fact should push the sales of the single). And from this point of view the song is nearly perfect! Not too hard in guitars (as Crystal maybe was), catchy melody, a good hookline, a nice straight forward track. Times have changed since the 80's and if we like it or not, i think even NewOrder have to sell some records to satisfy their employer! I think we can expect more "subtle" things from the other albumtracks or b-sides. Nevertheless i like "Krafty"!

Well said MARCO.I like it and think it will sell as a SINGLE. Never used to bother if anyone ELSE liked NEW ORDER and i ain't gonna start now.Let us not be too critical though or they may just call it a day.Then what would US lot do.Hope BUSTED reform?

Its garbage!! Embarrassing! Its like some duff track on that awful 2nd Electronic album. (the one that is so bad i've blanked it from my memory!).

Production wise there's a bit too much of what I didn't like about Get Ready in there. Mainly down to the sounds of the equipment they're using. Lyrics are probably the weakest point. I wish he'd forget about his bloody car, it makes it sound pedestrian. Which must be some kind of oxysomething or other.

Lyric wise I couldn't give a flyin'. Has anyone ever took any notice of his lyrics - I certainly haven't.

Definitely reminiscent of Raise the Pressure-era Electronic. God-awful lyrics (and I think Barney is a good lyricist). Not as good as Crystal (although at the time that was released people were saying that wasn't a patch on Regret so me thinks there's a bit of revisionism going on there) or Here to Stay (which I think is the best modern NO song). But let's give the album a chance: Fine Time wasn't the best song on Technique; alternatively, Regret was the best on Republic - so who knows? If Erasure can get top 5 then let's get behind the single and make sure it charts high - remembering Crystal only got to #8.

I'm semi-disappointed with it... it's a catchy tune and everything but it's not that New Order. No cutting edge, nothing 'wow!' about it. Far too poppy in my opinion... me thinks they're after a younger audience!

Also... Bernard's lyrics in recent years have really gone down the pan. Far too cheesy for their own good! Whatever happened to lyrics like 'Confusion sprung up from devotion, a halo that covers my eyes, it stems from this first estrangement, no one have I ever despised'?? Means absolutely f**k all probably, but sounds so cool!

I think it's quite a nice little track. It's the kind of tune that reminds me of summer time where everyone is having a good time with their friends. Overall, it's just a light, happy chilled out tune, and that's what I like about New Order. It's very catchty and great for radio. General people are going to hear this a few times and it's the chrous that will hit them, this may be more succesful than you think.

First opinion...swirling and kind of nice.

Doesnt have the impact of Regret which jumps out and smack you in the nads.

They say the album is going to be like Technique so we have only got one more guitar based song to listen to...Cant see it somehow.

Yes it's tame, yes it's poppy, yes it's radio-friendly, but so what? If people are still expecting cutting-edge New Order, well think again - they're all old gits who just want to make good tunes! Gone are the days when the world was against them and they were full of angst. Just enjoy it for what it is I say - another New Order record!

I think that's exactly how one should sound like when reaching his 50's. You know, you learn to value the time that's left. Alright, talking shite. Nevermind.

I agree with you : "Krafty" is quite a weak single, a bit too NewOrderish to me ; no real surprise in it and takes too much after "Such a good thing". They may have released it just to let the pressure mount around their 2nd single. With "Jetstream" as a huge planetary hit the album sales should get a good lift... ;)
