I was one of the first who heard the song live on BBC on that special day. Honestly, it was a nice pop song, nothing to be ashamed about. Anyway afterwards, as reviews of the song began to flood this forum, it became obvious that a damn great deal of people felt disappointed and complained endlessly. :nonono:

Why so much negative first and at once? :confused2:

Those who're inclined to expect something like Crystal must know there're some guitar-driven songs on the LP, even yet unheard. And so forth... Let's be glad the first single is not bad at all and there's so much to come!

Well said - thank goodness someone else feels this way too!:clap: Agree 100%.

Everyone's entitled to an opinion, but lets not be critical just for the sake of it - no, Krafty isn't Crystal, or Regret, or Skullcrusher for that matter - it is what it is, a well-crafted (sorry) melodic pop song from the best band in the world. Anyone who feels 'cheated' or hard-done-by needs a reality check. In my opinion, if New Order are happy with their output and they keep making music, how can things be bad? CTB :bear:

i have a feeling that even those who claim to dislike it would still gladly listen to it over and over again!

people want it to be 1987 again and sound exactly like "True Faith" except completely different ...without sounding modern or indie rock or too much like house or with too much guitar or with "weird noises" like Blue Monday/ Fine Time because they like New Order because they are not mainstream but they don't New Order want to be challenging and non-mainstream...

Actually I'd settle for Run, Love Less. Oh tha's what I think it sounds like. Good classic New Order.

Its a solid New Order track. Has all the elements. If you had just tuned into the BBC and you were driving in your car, and you hadn't lived in a cave for the last twenty years, you would know that was New Order, even if you were not a big fan. There aren't THAT many bands that have such a distinct sound.

Its got all the vintage New ORder sounds, but it still sounds modern. That in itself is a huge plus.

LIke I said before, 8/10.

Actually people (some of course, minority I think) are reacting the way I would react if they were just releasing Fine Time at this moment :D

Happy I wasn't a fan back then... I would have been hugely disappointed.. and guess what, turns out Technique is my favorite album!

Wasimple approves this message.

For me its great just to have the Order back. This song is seriously growing on me. Its a bit silly to say whether you love it or hate having heard it on the radio a couple of times. The lyrics are neither here nor there (though the chorus is pure Bernard), but the song puts a smile on my face, which is what NewOrder always do.

I like it. It's the Order. I am right.

It's a nice enough track, but I don't think it's of 'single' standard. It's certainly not an anthem or beacon for the Order 'ardcore. I 'got' this one immediately, found meself punching the air on first listen yesterday arvo, but with something like Crystal it took me ages to 'get' cos there was so much going on in there. I like Krafty, but I can't get carried away with it. And suspect I never will. It's solid without inspiring.

My fiorst reaction was 'its crap' after a while it was 'its too much like song x/y/z - treading old waters'

now, well I like it, it could do well - its radio friendly but its still bland for NO - mainly in the singing department.

Above all, its great to have some new stuff to listen to:thumb:

It aint the best they have ever done but its a damn site better than many other groups will do in their entire careers!! If its the first single as is to be believed then they must believe its the strongest tune commercially off the album...

People are entitled to their opinions and you will never please everyone but I swear moaning for moanings sake happens on this site yer miserable fookers! be grateful they are still together and releasing new material - and when its this good then long may it continue :thumb:

I think it's piss weak. Sorry. New Order Lite. I never listen to anyone's lyrics, especially New Orders, but the lyrics to Krafty really make my toes curl. Hope the album's better.

Lyrics aside, it sounds more like New Order than anything on the last two records (save 'Regret')

I'm on board!

Is this place becoming some kind of propoganda wing? Are we only allowed to express positive opinions without fear of being castigated?

Not at all! There's a sense of relief that something is soon to be with us, that the wait is nearly over, but I think that the broad range of opinions is as strong as ever.

Give them time... like any other New Order song, it'll grow on them... ;)

Many people on first hearing have expressed disappointment. Fair enough. However, I wasn't too keen on Trie Faith (I preferred 1963) Regret or Crystal on first hearing. Each one successively grew on me and I think that Krafty will do the same. For me, it's better than anything currently in the charts, but still not a New Order 'Classic'.

I'm sure it will grow on me and, as with all New Order tracks, except for 'WIFM' and the absolutely appalling 'Run Wild' - neither of which I can bear listening to.

Out of a huge back catalogue of singles, albums and various mixes, I don't think that not being too keen on just a couple of songs is bad at all. I'm looking forward to the single releases of Krafty and the new album release.

Just glad the band are still releasing listenable, well produced tracks that, generally speaking, blast any other band out of the water... :thumb:

I finally heard the whole thing for the first time. On the second go-around, the flaver was rich indeed. I remember waiting in the wings to hear Crystal and I heard something that was a testy, dry martini, proto-Brit-pop that would have fit better in 1997 than say, 2001, with its Oasisy sound and it's attempt to Joy Division-up their new sound. It was a good song, but aside from Barney's voice and Hooky's bass, it wasn't New Order. Here in America it floundered despite rave reviews to my utter disappointment. When I first heard Regret, it missed that New Order melancholy, driven more by Goo Goo Dolls-style balladry than the progressive energy that New Order generally exhibits. Now when I hear Regret, it's one of those songs that I want to stick into my wedding reception tape. It's a part of New Order that's nice to have one in a while, and they do it well, the sweety side that could compete with any Journey ballad. Krafty is Regret, Brotherhood style, with a "What a Wonderful World" Louis Armstrong sentiment. It's going to tick off the pro-modernist gothic New Orderists among us, but for those of us that actually liked Brotherhood but thought it was poorly produced, and lived off of Monaco, here's New Order's telling answer. It's like New Order is comfortable just being themselves instead of having to reinvent themselves after an 8-year hiatus through alternative 90's-style rock. It's the 1980's again, the Killers are on top, and New Order can be as melodic as they want to be.

I'm all for giving benefit of the doubt, but Christ!, major disaster! No goose pimples and certainly no shivers down the spine.. but hey, give it a chance. Just one thing, it don't sound like new order... Damn!:jawdrop:

Everybody likes to drive their cars They go to work and hang out in bars That's what you do when you live in a world With war and trees and mountains and girls Did you know I wear a jacket when it gets cold I throw out the milk when it gets old I walk with my feet to get around When I put on my shoes, they touch the ground I've got a dog and I've got a house And I've got a cat that chases a mouse A B C D E F G Won't you come and play with me Love is the greatest thing in the land Come on baby and take my hand I wrote a single for the radio Would you like to hear it, well here it go Love is like butter, it's not for sale I have a penis, which means I'm male Sunglasses keep your eyes from the sun This is really big news, go tell everyone I play guitar and sing in a group My grampa says he invented Fruit Loops Cars are red and some are blue Did you know that one plus one is two We're the best band in the universe I'm a genius at lyrics, here's another verse I wrote this in two minutes with a magic marker If there wasn't as much light, things would be darker I still hate Hooky when he eats crisps All my gay friends like this song, and they have lisps Don't run with scissors or you'll get hurt The earth is made from grass and dirt I'm really smart and know lots of stuff My name is Bernard, not Barney and I'm really tough OOH

You eat Cadillacs, Lincolns too, Mercuries and Subarus. ...And you don't stop; you keep. on. Eating cars. And when there's no more cars you go out at night and eat up bars where the people meet. Face-to-face. Dance cheek-to-cheek.

Alright, I'll stop now. _:;

Anyway, Krafty's not bad at all; the lyrics make me cringe, but I've felt that way about too many New Order songs to count and have gotten past them and latched onto their melodies.

Krafty has a great melody.

I wish it did have a slightly harder edge, though...

Welcome from a poster in Davis, CA.

Good points made. I myself didn't care for Joy Division or NewOrder on first listen. Krafty sounds better with every listen.

I am listening to the track for the first time right now, and I really don't have any complaints. Though I woldn't mind if there was something Movement-esque on the new album, but they won't be.

Yep - give me the moody existentialism version of New Order 81-85 over anything else they've done since. But. it isn't going to happen. Different band now unfortunately. But they have evolved, as they always did, and I will like the new album I am sure - but it wont be Movement, PCL or Low Life....... They are too darned happy:D:laugh:

Damn, I was laughing my arse off to those new lyrics. The lyrics are pretty god awful. I never thought he was actually bad at lyric writing until I heard Republic. Everything else I actually liked quite a bit, lyrically, with the odd exceptions here and there.

I havent been able to dl it properly cause my computer is sh!te, but what I did hear, I thought was good, but admittedly not great, and a bit tame. It does not sound at all like a single. Just a pretty good song, from a formerly great band, that is either just becoming a good band, or will release a classic in a few weeks time.

I wonder why his lyrics have gone to cr@p? Republic had some truly awful moments (World, Liar, spooky), and Get Ready had few moments that weren't at best, below average. I thought Technique, Brotherhood, and most of Low-Life were great. PCL was hit and miss as he found his way, to me.

Btw, I would not like a return to the '81-'85 sound. I thought their peak was Technique personaly. If you could extract what made that time period, great to me (Ceremony, Procession, Age of Consent, Leave Me Alone, 5 8 6 (Peel Session version), Thieves, Sunrise, the music if not the lyrics to Sooner than you think and Face Up) than I'd do it in a second, but Technique was the most fully realized album for me, nearly perfect, wonderful musically, lyrically, and vocally (while I like his unusual early vocals, I prefer his more perfected current voice), and so if they had to go back and encompass a particular sound, that's where I'd want them to take courage and confidence and direction from.

Im am just excited that NEW Order is back. As for the lyrics, I could care less. If Bernard Sumner was singing nursery rhymes I'd buy them. these last few years people cant wait for NEW Order to release another album and they finally do and there are complaints :scratch: JUST BE GLAD NEW ORDER IS BACK!!!!!

I liked it, ok so I've only heard it once and that was on crappy computer speaker (No stereo for me) streamed from Japan. But what the hell..it's the best New Order release I've heard so far this year and by most normal standards that should mean quality. Anybody who's listened to Barney's lyrics for a while knows that they can be a little "eccentric" and are probably best not read out loud. That said, they contribute to the whole that is the majesty of NO.

Anyway...the real reason I wanted to post was to ask the question does anyone else feel that this is Barney's attempt to introduce a new adjetive into the english language? You know you could describe something like spreadable butter, for example, as "being Krafty but not as cheesy flavoured" A better example may be any of a number of spreadable cheese spreads which are in fact Krafty despite not being actual Kraft spread ;)
