It seems to be the album version catches me but the 12 inch version on substance/international is the best. Shep does a good job. 7 inch version seems weak.

I vote for the Brotherhood version. I really like the end of the song without any vocals (unlike the '94/'95 version, where the chorus repeats at the end). The Substance mix would probably be #2.

Not sure who mixed it but my favorite has always been the version on the MARRIED TO THE MOB SOUNDTRACK... I remember the opening is different but I can't for the life of me remember what it is... I think it skips over the bass and just starts with the drum roll and then goes right into the vocals but then again I could be wrong... it's been a long time since I've heard that particular version.

I really love the 7" version. It's short and sweet and I dunno if i'm right, but sounds like Steve is actually drumming on it instead of using synthed drums. I've listened to all versions and the best version for me used to be the extended dance mix, but there's no Hooky on that. The 94 version is also pretty good, not too sure about the album version though, you can't quite hear the classic synth that goes throughout the song on that.

I'm gonna go with 7" although they're all great.

An alternate 12 inch with Hooky would be the most perfect track on earth.

One of the better variants can be found on the Fac (147?) Freely distributed cassette - the only occasion Bernard can be heard singing 'do do, de do do do' after the first chorus.

This mix also has more prominent bells drifting and swaying at the finale.

Quite magical.

Brotherhood is the most invigorating, but the 12" Hague induced offerings were landmark makers.

Are you still unexcited by the Caribbean one, H? I'm liking it a lot, in spite of the 4:09 flaw.

I prefer the rare Chris Lord Alge 3.47 min mix, found only on the US promo CD, US promo 7" and a US 10" in house job. Just picked up the promo 7" off eBay yesterday actually.

Actually I'm being a anorak wanker. That Alge version is very similar to the 7" mix.

With access to WTSC title track, the caribbean mango with segment missing was simply left on the shelf. I haven't taken to it at all. But that's not to say the album won't spin a bit more pineapple on it. Release day is in the air, I can almost smell the aroma of buttered biscuits.

Its been interesting to read the polarising the new work has caused. Its reminiscent of the Star Wars campaign where two tents were quickly erected and filled with snacks and light entertainment for the generals amusement away from the fields of action.

You could almost create an entire thread simply to discuss the different mixes of this classic song. Oh, I see someone's just done that and I'm posting in it.

To make it easier we could group the variants:

1 The Album Version 2 The 12" Mixes (and subsidiary alternatives and truncated versions) 3 The Steven Hague Outings in the 90's 4 The Live Versions

1 is the original classic, 2 is a classic version of a classic bearing almost no resemblance, 3 has a mind of its own and usually drives through fresh water and 4 is a mixture of them all.

Like Dub Vulcan, Bizarre Dude Where's My Vehicle is a wonderful experience to behest.

It could be argued that Sub-Custard and Bizarre Cheese Triangle, with The Perfectionist Kissing Device etc. gave New Order their name, as in, their proper place in quality street.

I haven't snuck down to obtain my packets of Krisps yet (no doubt there will be about eighteen CD's, VCD's, DVD's ETC.'s that fit like some kind of giant jigsaw where one piece is lost under the couch). I might wait for the Sirens Call (you could feasibly utilise this gag for a number of years).

Certainly not me. His lyrical style is magical. It takes you to a place you haven't seen or thought of before which is kind of warm and full of dreamy imagery. 'I Think I'll go 'n'till it gets Seasonable' - for all those who recall the early Order days as intellectual high points.

I must confess the main reason I haven't purchased yet is based on my scepticism of 'the remix'. I will be happy to report back though.

As I said on some other thread, I think the Glimmers mix brings out some major virtues in the song that are somewhat lost at least in the radio edit (I don't have the album version yet since all I have is the 5-track promo). It is more leisurely and has a nice good times feel. On the down-side, it has some very unimpressive added electronic sounds during instrumental sections. The Phones Reality mix is also pretty good.

I don't get why people are enjoying that Phones mix. Leaves me none-plussed as to it's worth.

I didn't see that movie, but it strikes me that the result would have been more difficult on a diet of tomatoes and cucumbers, which is what I tend to prefer lately.

Funny, but I recently gave up table salt (i.e. adding to food at the table). I doubt I could extend to dismissing grub which featured salt (impossible?). Surely your soup is now a tad mild?

If you haven't seen The Grudge - I'd recommend it.

Soup is not currently a big part of the menu. However, I recently tried cooking rice in very low sodium vegetable juice with chili powder and basil. It was very good.

Yes but it's still good. One of the few Japanese conversions to USA that have remained genuinely scary.

Salt is pretty bad, granted. I'd say so is smoking fags but in translation that might not have the same meaning.

I certainly have only pleasant associations with the Beach Bums. Get around, get around, I get around. And so on. But I have not experienced Smirk. To the best of my current recollection, I am not myself one of the original Beach Brats.

Pet Sounds is my 2nd favourite album. It's hauntingly brilliant. In fact I hardly listen to it now, as it becomes so embedded in my head, I can't shift it for days. I haven't heard the new Smile. not sure if I'm that enticed to do so. Bit of quandry as to whether or not Brian has managed to go back in time and produce what it would have been. Read some of the reviews and then bought Love - Forever Changes instead. Which I haven't given a proper listen to yet.

There are some very potent reviews of Smile Mr. H. Obviously to compare with Pet Sounds would be preposterous but it may be that Smile has its own qualities. If Pet Sounds is your bag you might find it pleasant, very pleasant indeed.
