So I have finally heard the album. And until I got to track 10, I was tentatively inclined to agree with Muffy. With track 10, everything changed. Someone complained this album didn't make the hair stand up on his neck. Track 10 does that. It is now tentatively number 2 on my list of all-time favorite NO tracks, after LMA.
And by the way, after listening to this album, I realized that probably all of their albums are concept albums.
Nice one. Turn was the initial stand out for me too. This album is definitely a grower. I'd be interested to hear from you again when you've listened to it a few more times...

If you are concerned about the manner in which I came to this experience, H, I bought a promo from eil. I assume this is legal, or otherwise they would have been put out of business long ago.
I don't believe that I have sufficiently digested this experience to do a proper "review," H. It's all too new yet. And I'm a bit pressed for time at the moment also. I'm about to go away for a few days. Perhaps when I return I will be better able to put it all into words.
Track 10 was played by Hooky to rapturous applause at his dj nights, although the lyrics appear to have changed since then.
A definate grower though and although i suffered from "new song overload" at first now its easily up their in my top 3 albums :)

Track 10 is definitely the sort of thing I did not think they were capable of any longer. My faith is reborn.

The title track is also very good, although the first time I listened to it, it didn't completely overwhelm me. On subsequent listens it sounded better. It is probably the second best thing on the album, and more likely single material than track 10. Track 10 was overwhelming from the beginning. It makes you cry, it gives you chills. It's one of those.

After hearing the Sirens Call themselves on the title track I doubted anything could better it. Krafty Cheese is acceptable but ITYS freely distributed with the New Musical Expedition brought a tinge of The Republican to expectations.
What gives with the Scissor Users? - is that song rhubarb?

Following up on my concept album comment, I think the Ana track is meant as a deliberate contrast to ITYS.

You know me too well, H. Actually I don't have a sentence to jot. I rather liked Morning Night and Day and Dracula's Castle but at this point I don't have anything more detailed than that.

Turn is indeed the best track on the album in my humble opinion. The first three tracks are also very strong. In fact it's difficult for me to name one I don't like. I Told You So is probably my least favourite.
Without wishing to confuse matters, there is a version of the Scissor Sisters one without a Scissor Sister in sight. Quite where that fits into the scheme of things is unclear.
When the album is out i plan to open a thread to petition for 'Turn' to be a future single. It's got hit written all over it....great radio tune me thinks. I doubt they will listen (managment / warners) but i'd rather this be a single than Jetstream. If you came down from Mars and heard Jetstream you would not guess that it had been released by a band with such history and consistent quality. Jetstream is not a great self portrait of the band, now is it?

I've watched your Scissor Sister 'is it or isn't it' plight for some time now. I wish you well for the future on that one, I hope it turns out for the best.
I must say I'm very excited about all this. If ITYS is, more or less, the albums down time then that bodes very well indeed.

ITYS is not, IMO, the album's down time. It's the last track on side 1, corresponding to the placement of Turn on side 2. It's a crucial track on the album, really much more about Sirens than the title track. (Track 11 is side 3).
I don't know what modern version of a record you have there Patrick but it seems to have more sides than a sphere.
I received my album very recently (following some excellent sleuthing from Old Brown) and am about to post my reactions.

Guess what though? ... when I ventured to the postal office to collect my winnings (of course, they 'did' deliver in a day and I was thus out!) they were presented in a 12" box ... because there was a 12" in the box!
All of those young lovers seeking out the '3' CD's for sale may be looking for some time as '1' of the CD's is in actual fact a 12" record.

I still haven't heard the album yet. I'm waiting for it to come out in the US, although I can't listen to it in the computer lab here. I guess I'll have to be a virgin for a month or so.
