Sydney Show

Just bought my tickets to the Sydney show at the Hordern.

Who else is going to this concert?

Not I! I think my brother might be going, he lives in Melbourne, though if they're playing Melbourne he'll probably go to that one instead.

Got the Hordern tickets on day one, though that wasn't necessary...cos it's a general seating show. Bringing my missus along as well, though she would much prefer to see Erasure or Beautiful South. I think I read on one of the past thread, Mitch & CTD are all coming from Melbourne to this gig. Hey, you guys have any live NO CDs ( hotcakes ) to bring along...I don't have any to trade ( I've got a very bad fuzzy recording of NO live in Sydney in '86, but the quality's the pits...anyway it's somewhere in the garage with the ticket stub...) but we can come to some kind of arrangement if you like....

I think we're formulating some sort of old-skool gathering prior to this Hordern gig. I'm flying in that afternoon and I believe Order-stalwarts Johnny Giles and Allen Jarvis will be in attendance, fresh from the UK. I don't know that the Melbourne connection will be there, but Brad, a guy from the Ceremony list is flying in from Adelaide. So if you guys want to join us you're more than welcome. I don't have any confirmation of a meeting point or time yet, watch this space for details closer to the date.. It's gonna be the mad flava.

I'm going with a couple of friends too.

Anyone know who the support band will be?

Am stoked that NO are also playing 2 shows in Melbourne. I am fully ticketed up for the affair.

I agree. Even though it would be good to see New Order play in front of a packed house, I would prefer it from a personal point of view if there wasn't that much people there. That way you get to watch the concert in comfort and enjoy it more.

I bought my tickets yesterday and they were number 2887 and 2888. Does anyone know if this number represents the amount of tickets sold? Also, does anyone know the capacity of the Hordern Paviliion?

Ahmad, those numbers must be the number of tickets sold, then... I bought mine at about 9.10am on the first day tickets on sale...and the tickets are numbered 614 & 615...

I agree with you too, Ahmad. I wished it's in a smaller venue like the Metro on George Street, much cosier and intimate...but Kosheen is playing there that night.

The support should be John Butler Trio, do you think? Or maybe Pseudo Echo......

I'm on for the Gold Coast, both Sydney shows and Perth.. I'll be seeing you guys around. The final gig in Perth will be a cracker- I've got a bunch of old school mates who idolised the band thru the eighties and are finally gonna see them..

Any New South Welshmen know of a convenient drinking hole to the Sydney Hordern Pavilion? Somewhere in stumbling distance to the venue preferably..

Candy, Candy, Candy can't you let it go? I know you're feeling desperately out of the loop, but I simply can't afford to do every show.. Here's an idea: why don't you fly up to Sydney and join us for the Hordern gig and the BDO? Hell, it's only three sickies.. Or just tell your curator that you're going north, looking for evidence of the ancient diprotodontid.. He'll be thrilled.

I agree. Even though there are other aussie bands that I would prefer ahead of JBT, it would be fitting to have a band inspired by JD playing before NO.

Is the Melbourne Metro gig General Admission too? We're guested for this, but some venues rather cheekily stick 'guests' up in the circle, or wherever. And would I not be happy with that!

Pretty sure Metro will be a full General Admition affair! Don't know what type of crowd we will get in there though, maybe old fans, maybe youngin's Will just have to see

Knowing how melbourne promoters think don't be suprised if we end up with Kids in the Kitchen or Psuedo Echo supporting. Support acts in Melbourne never are quite right

Depthy - nice idea, but no can do. I like your cunning plan for three consecutive sickies (and I'm also secretly thrilled that the word Diprotodontid has made it to this forum, you tiger), but it's a lack of funding that is restraining me at this point. I'm happy to meet up with Obi and Jarvo (and even Muffy's brother - hell, I'd drink with a duck), but I'm pretty much tied to Melbourne CTD

Any idea for a venue in Melbourne? There are plenty of good pubs in a short area around there, The Elephant and Wheelbarrow on Bourke, Bridie O'Riellys on Lt Collin, The Imperial up the road, Hard Rock Cafe accross the road. Any input for pre show drinks?

Does anyone know what the set will be, also what did you mean by 'the venue being burnt down', do you think there will be trouble?

Hey Obi Wan, this site has most of the same information in the Histoy section. You can check out almost every joydivision/neworder show's playlist, ticket stub, merchandise etc...if only the resources here would add their memories of past shows, this site would have it all. What about 18april1985? Who was there?! What a show!

I am very psyched to see this show as I think New Order are great, but I do have a couple of concerns.

Seeing as how I have never been to a concert before in my life, yes and I've been on this planet for well over 20 years, I have absolutely no idea of what to expect crowd wise etc etc.

And I've only got you guys to ask since I'm going solo to this concert. ;)

Any tips?

I know what you are going through Ahmad; I saw NO for the first time last November in Cologne and I was counting the days from the day I had the tickets in my hands. Sometimes when your expectations are too high you get disappointed, but that was definitely not the case. To see NO live and play songs you may have listened to literally hundreds of times (like Regret, True Faith, LWTUA) is truly special. Even quite emotional at certain moments.

Even if they are bad (which I'm sure they won't be)I won't be disappointed. Just having the experience to see them is good enopugh for me.

Any news on the support act for the Sydney show?

Another group I wouldn't mind seeing support NO is Infusion. They're a pretty good electronic dance group.

Well, Chris.... The last NO concerts in Sydney I attended were in Enmore Theatre and Coogee Bay Hotel ( then Selina's )back in '86, everyone was standing ( almost like standing ovation ) throughout the duration of the concert... ...so if you are not very tall like me...I suggest bringing some kind of thick heel or box to stand up above everyone...Gee, times like this I really need to be an Empire State Human.....

Cool, I know they have seating there, but I guess the only way to enjoy it is to stand.

I thought the Hordern was an all standing venue.

If you go to ticketek online Ahmad, it says it has seating, shows a picture.

As for 4pm, don't mind me, I don't know anything, this is my first concert so I'm like "crowds, crowds, crowds"

I just want to be at the front, and since its general seating, I assume it's first come, first served, hence the 4pm suggestion. ;)

It's my first concert too.

I'm big and tall so viewing and pushing my way through the crowd shouldn't be a problem except I'm going with two girls who are quiet little. I might have to dump them at the door and meet them afterwards.

Same here Chris. I've never been to a concert before, well not to a big concert anyway. The biggest would be the Whitlams at the metro last year and I wouldn't call that big. I was dragged there by my friends against my will.

Gee....4 pm !!!! Me thinks it's too early, I finish work after 6 pm too...so I'm gonna be there like 7.30 or maybe even 8.00 depending on the support band... Other concerts as far as I could remember, the crowd usually build up only after the support band played...during that intermission between bands..then again it all depends on the support band - if it's a popular one, then the front may be fully packed up at the beginning of the support set... I remember Blondie concert at the Capitol, the support Celibate Rifles played to less than half of the total crowd...but that was booked seating. Sometimes support bands don't get much respect from gig audience..and music journalists as well. ( they usually turn up only to review the main act...)

Lets hope this is the case here. I don't wanna turn up late and not be able to get a good viewing area.

Guys- you needn't worry about arriving at the venue too early.. First, hopefully some of you can join us for an ale before the gig.. Second, there's always a break between acts- the support band clear out, everyone shifts around, goes for drinks etc and then bunches up towards the stage.. In my experience it's always possible to force your way to the front if you want it badly enough..

Personally I like slotting in just behind the ruck at the front.. Someone like Jarvis likes to be amongst the throng, I gather, dishing it out.. ;)

I prefer being able to see what's going on without worrying about whether you're gonna stay upright.. I can't see the Hordern gig being that mad mind you, nothing like being in the front for the Prodigy at the BDO or anything.. Or for Limp Bizkit, like that girl found out last year to her peril.

A pit is a mosh pit, prop not like a metal band where the crowd will go sick but where people clamour to get to the front of their favorite band. for an example of a mosh pit watch some heavy metal specials where they show concerts and decrease the verocity by about 100 times. Johnny is right though, stand back just off the pit and enjoy the night!!!

I'm assuming you have the Best Of and Substance. Your next album should be Low Life followed by Technique, Brotherhood, PC&L, Get Ready, Republic and finally Movement.

Actually before all those try to find New Order Story on video. As the title suggests it's about the history of NO (including JD) and includes videos of all the hits (roughly 20 songs).

Have to agree with you, Ahmad...JB-Hifi is the best place to get CD cheapies....Couldn't believe I got most of my Belle & Sebastian CDs for only $12.99 each!!

BTW, Chris Z, if you want Joy Division's CDs...I saw yesterday at Chatswood HUM store, Unknown Pleasures, Closer & Still going for '2 for $25'....they even have all the Jesus Mary Chain & Smiths at that price, too....

I saw JOy Division 19-something - 198something (sorry) at HMV Hurstville for $19.95, I didn't know if that was a good price or not, hence I passed. ;)

What ever you do don't pay $45 for Technique. Thats how much HMV in Bankstown have got it for, I have no idea why. I managed to pick it up for $20 a few years ago.

I got mine for $40 about 10 years ago. $36 isn't bad but I do recall seeing it for $30 not long ago but went it comes to NO music money isn't an issue.

I think recently FISH records have substance for only $19.95...You'll just have keep an eye out for bargains... Talking about bargains...last year at HUM Chatswood, they have Lowlife,Brotherhood, Technique for only $7.95 each or '3 FOR $20'..!!!!Nearly felt like buying the whole lot again...but I have already own 3 copies of Lowlife... Besides, I'm hoping the remastered version to come out soon.... BTW, anyone here owns the Japanese 1999 remastered of NO CDs?...Are they really good quality remasters? I need some feedback before forking out big money for them...

Reading the review from the NZ BDO it appears NO were throwing items into the crowd. Lets hope they do the same of Wednesday night. I would be great to have a souvenir from their concert.

Check at Ticketek for sure Ahmad, but I'm pretty sure it's a no smoking/camera/recording device/video-cam concert.

Copies of the set-list were available about a year ago. Just cross out Paris and insert Paramatta, and away you go :)
