Ive heard many rumors that U2 did a cover of Love Will Tear us apart, very intrested to hear it, another rumor is taht they played it live with another son, does anyone have this so i can listen to it? i would be very happy
and those who dont make spike happy have to suffer consequences
U2 played "Love Will Tear Us Apart" as incidental music on some live versions of "With Or Without You". I may have a MP3 of it somewhere.
I was told that on the Elevation tour gig in Manchester, U2 did a few seconds of She's lost Control between songs. It could have just been that twat of a frontman alone.
u2 though do cite JD as one of their biggest influences. So much so they Vertigo is a direct rip off of Isolation!
No doubt it will be a version where Bono can look into the sky and throw his arms up. Possibly either spinning in a circle or letting rain fall on his face.

Oh yes he did... She's Lost Control and Transmission.... "Dance Dance Dance to the radio" in With Or Without you as well.

On NewOrderStory, Bono sings a few lines of LWTUA..later on in film, Quincy Jones mention that Bono said U2's biggest influence is New Order

Don't know about U2, but, heard an interesting cover of LWTUA by The Cure. I know not everyone's cup of tea, but, it does sound quite good !

I saw U2 during their 'Love Town' tour at Western Springs in Auckland, New Zealand in the 80's (1988 I think). I believe they played 'One Tree Hill' for the first time at this gig in memory of a kiwi bloke who died(named Greg I think - possibly their tour manager or something). Anyway, during this song Bono broke into a few bars of the LWTUA chorus. It was interesting because 'One Tree Hill' is a local sightseeing attraction in Auckland (that used to have one tree until some pecker-head cut it down) and the lyrics include a verse along the lines...'the moon comes up over one tree hill' - and it was a full moon/clear night when they played it at the gig.
I really do hate U2, commercial shite trying to blend in with all the youngsters, fuck em to be honest. Vertigo was alright but apart from that, they can stop all their act and just fuck off somewhere, NO rule, U2 = fake.

Up until seeing New Order live (my very first time) at Hammerstein Ballroom, NY, I'd have said that Larry Mullen Jr. from U2 would rock all in a fight. However, Hooky was such a berserker on stage!
I gave me a very broad smile, when I recently read the headline of a WFTSC review in a german music magazine...
It said: U2 in good
Compare the guitar-work of The Edge to Hooky's bass... (Even Barney is a better guitar player then Edgy...)
And when I see Bono doing his big and important gestures (next comes a halo over his head)... Oh man...

I love U2 and all, but singing a few lines of LWTUA doesnt impress me. They should audition for a tribute album. Then I'd be impressed. If they love JD so much, why haven't they? right man, and "Boy" was really close to JD influence, albeit already featuring U2 "heroic" style
That NO may have been one of U2's main influences sounds a bit strange to me, cause U2 never ever played synthetic songs

BTW, Cure's version of LWTUA is rather crap
Like Joy Division, U2 started out as a punk band in 1980. It's easy to see why they would look up to Joy Division during that time. It's nothing but pure respect IMO from the u2 guys. They even sang the "Love Will Tear Us Apart" bit during their performance on Saturday Night Live.

U2 is/are/were huge JD fans, and the Quincy Jones story from NewOrderStory is correct. Although I don't hear much NO in their sound, the JD influence is there, especially on their first two albums. Martin Hannett produced "11 O'Clock Tick Tock", one of their first singles. It's a terrible song, so don't chase it down unless you're a big U2 fan or an even bigger JD fan. I think it's on one of the U2 Greatest Hits discs, but I'm not sure. Hannett was also going to produce U2's first album but for some reason they ended up going with Steve Lillywhite instead.

Well, I will be the lone voice in defence of U2; they have written loads of classic tunes and I think they are still in good shape. They knock the crap out of Coldplay and most of the new pretenders.
NO are obviously my faves though and I rate a lot of bands higher than U2- but come on, they are pretty good...
And as for the Cure? Great early songs, a good few solid poppy 80's songs, but from the the 90's onwards they have become increasingly cringeworthy.

U2 are a fantastic band, awesome live. Bono is a bit of a donkey but at least he admits it.
New Order are of course my other favourite band.
The Cure, now take em or leave them. Loved a Forest and Fascination Street but Love Cats made me want to top myself.
And the Mode. Well liked them (not from the dodgy start) but after Exciter I am starting to think they are losing the plot.

Anyway, I bought the RED HOT CHILLI PEPPERS Live At Hyde Park 2xCDs set just for the fantastic ( almost real ) TRANSMISSION intro they played before one of their own song...that intro lasted for abt 30 secs i think...

Can Hooky play a guitar solo? Doubt it. Stop knocking the Edge, You might not like U2 but you cant mock a guitar genius.
Hooky and The Edge are very different, like chalk and cheese. Both brilliant artists, although I obviously listen to Hooky a lot more than The Edge- I'd buy anything that Hooky plays on, whereas with U2 it's just the LPs (well 75% of them).

U2 are crying out to be mercilessly mocked, I'm sure even deep down they would admit that themselves. I used to like them but recently they've started getting on my nerves in a big way. It's bad enough that our leaders ring up Bono every time there's a political crisis (I don't give a fuck how many times he's been to Africa, he's not a world leader) Bono should know his place: a rock singer. Unfortunately he decided to become a rock star with a messiah complex and thinks he can solve the world's problems when he's absolutely nowhere near qualified.

I will give Larry Mullen Jr. credit, he is a good drummer. I used to think Edge (it is a twattish name tbh) was a good guitarist but I've realised he's a bit of a one trick pony, same old high up plucked screech every album. With Vertigo he just power riffed a'la The Hives which any teenage guitar wannabe can do. I find it absolutely disgraceful the music press (Q magazine for one) will award U2 four or five stars for simply "being classic U2" and not changing their sound one bit whereas if New Order dare to "sound like New Order" or even try something new, they get shafted with a meager two stars.
I sure I'm not the only one tired of opening up music publications and seeing Bono's grinning features and those silly glasses staring back at me with his arm wrapped around Chris Martin, Kofi Anan, Tony Blair or whoever he's decided to get chummy with this month. Glass of bubbly in one hand, the key to wiping out poverty in the other (yeah, right) It sounds harsh but I just wish he and the rest of his band would fuck off, if anything he's ruining the legacy of the good stuff U2 have done.
