Up until seeing New Order live (my very first time) at Hammerstein Ballroom, NY, I'd have said that Larry Mullen Jr. from U2 would rock all in a fight. However, Hooky was such a berserker on stage!

I gave me a very broad smile, when I recently read the headline of a WFTSC review in a german music magazine...

It said: U2 in good

Compare the guitar-work of The Edge to Hooky's bass... (Even Barney is a better guitar player then Edgy...) And when I see Bono doing his big and important gestures (next comes a halo over his head)... Oh man... I better stop now... :ignore:

I love U2 and all, but singing a few lines of LWTUA doesnt impress me. They should audition for a tribute album. Then I'd be impressed. If they love JD so much, why haven't they? They sure jumped in on that Ramones tribute. As if they's say "fuckit" to their idols, and do a Ramones song instead? Gah.

That's not a good idea. She is obviously far too intelligent for him.

Just because he can't spell doesn't mean he's dim. It doesn't mean we can't have a bit of fun with him either, see Behind Closed Doors "eye am asho board thread". :D

Hooky.

deffo.... the Cure would Bottle it,and Hooky gives U2 impresive combos to head and body,U2 can't weather a punishing first round and get KO'd .Ref stops fight in 1st round of "Battle of the bands"reads the morning headline.

Right, this calls for drastic meassures....

I hereby propose we have A FOUR WAY CELEBRITY DEATH MATCH - wherein we build a very large boxing ring and in each corner place the following four bands and then let them fight it out amongst themselves okay?

In Corner A we have: Messrs Hewson, Evans, Clayton and Mullen Jr....otherwise hereby known as (cue fanfare) *** U 2 *** !!!

In Corner B we have: Messrs Sumner, Hook, Morris and Cunnilingus...otherwise hereby known as (cue fanfare) *** NOO OORRRDAAAARRR *** !!!

In Corner C we have: Messrs Smith, Gallup, Fraggle, Scissorhands, Gonk and Hairy.... otherwise known as (cue fanfare) *** THE CUUUUUURRRRRRE *** !!!

In Corner D we have: Messrs Gahan, Gore, Fletcher and Puppet.....otherwise hereby known as (cue fanfare) *** DEPECHE MOOOOOOOOOODE *** !!!

This would be truly worthy of a special DVD release.:evil4:

Hooky.

I don't know...Hooky has the burly tough bearded long hair thing going for him, but U2's drummer Larry is pretty ripped and tough himself...could be a good row

As for The Cure...they should just lie down and pretend to be dead...it's their only defense

Don't talk crap. Barney, technically, has trouble stringing four chords together.

Edge can create a riff out of nothing.

right man, and "Boy" was really close to JD influence, albeit already featuring U2 "heroic" style

That NO may have been one of U2's main influences sounds a bit strange to me, cause U2 never ever played synthetic songs Their styles are totally different. OK for JD influence but NO ?... :brow:

BTW, Cure's version of LWTUA is rather crap

Like Joy Division, U2 started out as a punk band in 1980. It's easy to see why they would look up to Joy Division during that time. It's nothing but pure respect IMO from the u2 guys. They even sang the "Love Will Tear Us Apart" bit during their performance on Saturday Night Live.

He uses lots of echo to make it sound like he's playing about eight times as many notes as he actually is. He might piss on Barney a bit, but he's certianly no Hooky.

U2 would win. Supposedly Bono is tough as nails, and is not someone to screw around with.

U2 is/are/were huge JD fans, and the Quincy Jones story from NewOrderStory is correct. Although I don't hear much NO in their sound, the JD influence is there, especially on their first two albums. Martin Hannett produced "11 O'Clock Tick Tock", one of their first singles. It's a terrible song, so don't chase it down unless you're a big U2 fan or an even bigger JD fan. I think it's on one of the U2 Greatest Hits discs, but I'm not sure. Hannett was also going to produce U2's first album but for some reason they ended up going with Steve Lillywhite instead.

No it wasn't. It's about street gangs. The title comes from the book "The Lord of the Flies".

U2's "War" album was pretty alright. The rest is shit, and Bono should probably die.

What a load of shite. Boneo is an old smackhead. NO are MEN who take coke and attack people with Pernod bottles. What more evidence do you need?

Look at the way BS dances - only someone hard would dance like that.

Look at the way Hooky swings that bass around - he's DREAMING about smashing it into someone's head.

If it kicks off, I'm behind the Salford lads (another reason New Ordah would kick ass - their fans are MUCH harder!)

True. Loved Bill Bailey's 'technical failure' at a U2 show routine, where Edge hits the wrong pedals.
