My work here is done...

Well someone sent me the Jonathan Ross show performace and I am... well...

Speechless...

There is certainly no need to kick a band when they are down and possibly out, particularly when they are doing such a wonderful job themselves...

As there are plenty of long time fans even around here who are equally (or almost) appalled by the recent descent I dont think any of it needs further pointing out... so my work here is done... I really dont begrudge the band a victory lap nor any listeners who derive pleasure from that which is not my cup of tea... music should be an enjoyable, pleasurable thing and when its not its time to move on... and so I shall...

Now back to your regularly scheduled program... toodle ooo!

Can someone remind the late AJ that NO's career is littered with debacles and painfully bad live performances? Surely it's part of their charm. But it's the moments of mesmerising genius, unreachable by most other bands, that keep us coming back.

Let's not forget he recently suggested Sneaker Pimps were a band NO should be aspiring towards.

everyone seems to have forgotten the totp performance of Blue Monday, well out of tune and did no justice to the track. not to mention the Rock Around The Clock thing on BBC in 84ish. Although that was so bad it was completely cool.

everyone is so happy now that there is one less honest music fan here... I was a bit surprised you just didn't all BAN Wells as was suggested by several GOOD FANS.

NO DISSENSION ALLOWED!

(I love how if you criticize ANY bit of new order, you are then judged as a HATER of all things new order... as if they are beyond reproach, THOSE GODS!!! There is apparently NOTHING that new order could do that would EVER be less than perfect... reminds me of the michael jackson fans all defending HIM to the death.... )

back to more mindless tepid satisfaction...

(p.s. I love new order, always will, loved sumner's dancing in nyc may 5th, and yet, yes, SO SO sorry, do question them from time to time... SHUDDER! )

awaiting the childish barbs....

You've missed the point again, haven't you? Read AJ's initial post here. It's childish to the point of insanity. He might as well write "Yah, boo sucks! Barney can't dance! Your favourite band are rubbish!" All sing-sung like a 14 year old schoolgirl, of course.

It's pathetic coming from a bloke pushing his late 40's.

Need I remind everyone of Fine Time on TOTP?! SIXTEEN PLUS years ago. I wonder what AJ made of that one?! If you're light on Brit-TV then have a look at the Run video from the same era. Makes a bit of an arse of himself in that one too, surely?! He's been doing it for a very long time now. And let's not forget Baywatch - or was that so uncool it was actually cool?

The point most of the adults on here are making is ... who gives .. a .. fuck .. either way?! One of the reasons I think a lot of us took to this lot in the first instance was their couldn't-give-a-monkey's ethic. If Barney wants to dance like a twat, let him. I don't see what's possibly wrong with this. I for one are not gonna lose sleep over it. I personally couldn't give a shit. Some people here seemed to be concerned that people are chiding them cos their band can't sing in tune! Again, who cares? I like New Order, warts 'an all and am at least adult enough to realise my whole world ain't gonna come crumbling down and people are gonna start giggling behind my back just cos their lead singer now resembles William Shatner. If people want to distance themself from the band cos they're [chuckle] 'embarrassed' by their own assocation with them then let 'em throw their toys out of the pram. Personally, I think it's pathetic.

You are just taking the piss now, aren't you?

If you really mean that thing about Jackson, you're beyond help. If it's supposed to be a joke, you're not taking the sensitivities of the other people on this forum seriously enough. I think this is the real point here.

The impression that I get is that there is more criticism than positive comments coming from some people. These people might well harbour a deep love for the band but the impression is that they simply can't stand them. It's natural to ask what they do it for - to piss off other people? to educate the band? to show everyone how clever they are? Well, one out of three aint bad!

I wholly agree with this.

It is similarly amazing that some people decide they don't like something like Dracula's Castle solely because they find the title embarrassing.

Which New Order forum have you been reading exactly?

Digital Republic is FULL of criticism of NO, some of it fair, some of it misguided, some of it plain inflammatory. AJ mostly falls into the last category.

A band's most ardent fans are also its harshest critics and this has been manifest on these boards for many a year.

What we do expect is some sense of balance and rationality with your criticism but unfortunately AJ took a liking to trolling in the most basic sense and ultimately turned the forum against him.

It's a pity in a way because he's an old school fan and no fool. I just couldn't fathom his motives. If the band has truly become such a embarrassment for him, why keep returning here?

i've certainly not made any friends here with my criticisms of New Order. pointing out their shortcomings is unavoidable if you've got eyes and ears but a lot of folks here can't deal with their fav. band getting strung up and hung out to dry. i went though a phase around the time Get Ready came out of rejecting the NEW New Order style. When i came to terms with the band changing as they grew older, as i've changed, the enjoyment i've always got from their records came back. WFTSC is a major accomplishment for a band in their position. i've spent too much time giving Bernard hell, even suggesting the other 3 release an instrumental New Order album but his dodgy lyrics and ridiculous dancing are just part of the package. you either love it or leave it. no one's going to take away your PC&L + Low Life records and no one's going to make you post at NOOL. Life is glorious and so are The Old Men. The only thing left is to bring back Gillian. At least hire a nanny so she can finish the last few songs for the next album.

Perhaps you are referring to a post I made awhile back where I said "how can I play WftSC to my friends with a stupid song title like Draculas Castle on it"??? That was a joke that went over your head. plus, any new order fan knows that the song titles mean nothing, even if it does suck.

what DOES make me cringe is listening to a song with the lyrics "draculas castle" IN them.... it is a song for 6 year olds.... the song is a bad joke cause of the asinine lyrics. musically, it is a decent tune. lyrically, a bad joke...

now, back to the thread: as usual, al jarvis puts up his paper tigers and turns someone else's post into something it is not so he can bat it down and be the nool hero....

because, it wouldn't be as easy to admit that some of us who criticize certain aspects of new order are speaking honestly and could care less about what others think... sorry, jarvis, but my beliefs aren't about 'what would other people think' - which i know blows your whole theory to shit...

in fact, i think it is JARVIS who is concerned with popularity and hipness, etc, by agreeing at every turn with the easy majority of fans... jarvis is the kid worried about the older oasisfan kids in his cute overused analogy of the week... but that is basic psychology, that what one hates is often what one most fears is true of oneself...

jarvis, is there nothing ever that sumner could do that would bum you out? can you handle that perhaps some of us ARE bummed by him, at times, and that it has NOTHING to do with coolness or hipness??? so, no more TOtP analogies please, cause yeah, he was an idiot THEN as well... hell, he was an idiot when he had a mustache too... but, 99% of the time he is a genius and that is why we love him....

it is hard to believe folks get upset about true fans bitching about his lame dancing.... so what? if you can't handle a small bitching like that, god help you deal with real life...

or i guess to you, sumner could come on stage drunk and whack off and you would call it art? or compare it to TOTP and rationalize it??? you guys kill me.....

I'd quite like to see her get involved as well, even if it's just for a couple of tracks. Think she's been a little underestimated in the past.

jarvis is the one who likes to summon up the Ian Curtis uberfan with a shrine in his daily paper tiger hits, but it is really the jarvis type who truly worships a bernard sumner rock hero, the artiste who can do no wrong, which is worse than those curtis worshippers, cause at least they are honest....

the song jetstream is the real problem here, not the performance.I for one expected nearly every whoop and motion(maybe not the running on the spot thing, that was a new one on me) from barney, and can accept it.jetstream as a single from new order, is much harder to swallow. All i can hope is that the next album to follow WFTSC is not the sell out pop designed for gettin kiddies pocketmoney in the singles market ala shitstream, because the title track,Turn and Krafty are classics.Love those tracks me like :music:

Oh, ferfuckssake, what is it with you and AJ? You keep your heads down during these gigs and suddenly you're getting all gobby on the keyboards again when it's safe to assume New Order ain't gonna play your countries again till the next millenium. IF you'd have come over and said "Hello" when we were both in TGI Fridays they I might've had some respect if you're gonna get all uppity. But you didn't and it's a shame cos it's always so much better to put faces to names on this site. I'm a thoroughly decent chap deep down, honest, and do like a bit of banter. However, IF you'd bothered chatting to us you might've then realised I really ain't gonna be bothered what other people might think and have no need to curry favour here, or wherever. We breed a tad tougher strain of New Order 'fan' on our shores.

As for things that upset me about Sumner, check the history channels on any forum. I think the lad is a cnut for not touring. Let's face it, their lack of live shows is basically down to him. Solely some might say. That bothers me immensely. But his dancing is never gonna get me down, he's been 'trying' since at least 87 onwards and that's a helluva long time now. I know he can't dance, and I know he can't sing some of the time. What's to debate? I'm not gonna get all po-faced and wonder out loud, "What would Ian say?"

Keep up the good work, Mr Tarbox. And, next time, put your rack of ribs to one side and stop and say Hello!

NOOL is a tight knit community and the good thing is we're always up for meeting as many of you on here as possible, whether we agree or not we'll always share a beer.... You know where to find us before a gig (the closest pub usually) and when the gig starts get yerselves down the front and say hello to us, we don't bite, well, Jarvo might if he's voddied up:lol:

As for Dracula's Castle.....I don't like it cos it's shite, nothing to do with the title, there, I've said it :ignore:

Al, and other TGIF fans... just want to clear that up... I showed up pretty late and was looking for you all at a big table (thought some huge table had been reserved from posts I had read...) anyway, went up to the 2nd floor cause I didn't see you all on the 1st one... (my wife is 6 mos pregnant but we made the best of it, she had a blast of a night by the way!) anyway, I consumed several long island iced teas and ran into nic, then came down later but you had already left, or maybe i once again did not see you... it was strange.

whatever, it WAS lame... I was bummed to not run into you all... I got talking with other fans up top near the bathrooms where I was sitting and the time flew...

I stayed after the show but it emptied out insanely fast, tho I found Nic, but nobody else... anyway, wasn't trying to avoid anybody, just didn't work out, which is bizarre cause i was so close... and you probably walked right by me on the way to the pisser! i did see a few 'england' shirts... but you brits are so cold and reserved I was afraid to say hello... (joke!)

all apologies, don't take it personally please!

nic pointed you out to me (you were sitting by the toilets, i believe), but i never came up and said hi. mostly because i had to pee like a racehorse on my way in and partly because i didn't want to make a complete arse out of myself in my drunken state on my way out, as most people upstairs seemed pretty sober. i figured i would hurry back downstairs to the safety of the drunken crowd where i could make an arse out of myself and appear relatively normal. stupid in hindsight, but inebriated it all made perfect sense. anyway, i do remember that you were wearing white. :D

and for the record mat, mr. al jarvis does not have red skin and horns in real life, although i don't know about a pointy tail as i didn't get that well acquainted with him unfortunately.

well, truth be told, nic had told me al was waiting for me, with a gun tucked in his belt... i knew it was gonna be trouble, so i stayed away... nic seemed pretty concerned...

i did see lots of cute british chicks, but my wife was with me, and pregnant, so i tried not to notice...

i kept thinking how cool it was that nyc was being invaded by new order fans from around the globe...

i guess we americans (and canadians!) need to return the favor and head to britain soon!

yes, we had the good the bad and the ugly theme queued up and the tumbleweeds ready to blow across the room...but you never showed. it would've been one hell of a shootout.

as far as the cute british chicks--i don't think there was a british girl in the bunch! we were all american (and one canadian lass). it was probably me that you were checking out. yep, that's gotta be it.

New Order is perfectly imperfect! I love ' em, and I'd pay to catch them at least 2 more times if they came back to NYC(goofy dancing, wailing, and all).

As an interesting aside, I always made a point of talking to people in England shirts at the Order gigs in the US ... and not one lad wearing them was English. Standard response was, "Oh, I went there once!".

Which I guess is the same as English kids wearing baseball shirts and NY caps, though?!

I really dont begrudge the band a victory lap nor any listeners who derive pleasure from that which is not my cup of tea... music should be an enjoyable, pleasurable thing and when its not its time to move on... and so I shall...

Now back to your regularly scheduled program... toodle ooo!
