U myxing what I'm mixing?

And the bez award for conspicuous incoherence goes to..... Only kiddig.
Just noticed what you were asking, and your user name, and it occurred to me it's only a couple of letters away from the greatest female DJ (and composer/engineer/all round flamig genius) who's ever lived. Deliah Derbyshire. Never heard of her right? perhaps.... BBC radiophonic workshop, rings a bell.
If not, search up on her, a fascninating person. I have a video here showing here "DJ-ing" 4 open reel tape decks into time, nudging and ragging them and everything LOL.
Oh yeah and I refuse to listen to M. Le Cont any more, ever since I seen the bugger trying to say a dx7 was amazing and not ( as everyone knows) part of satan's plan to destroy all human happiness.
Hell yes I'm mixing what U're myxing. I
U-myx. Anyone who doesn't have somewhere to host their U-myx should send it my way.
And now that everyone knows how crappy the DX7 really was, I do appreciate when producers (eg The Neptunes) add a deliberately crappy DX7 sound to a track (eg Justin Timberlake's Rock Your Body) for nostalgia value. We must never forget the pain the DX series brought to so many people over the years, though. A monument, maybe.
And I greatly admire/pity Brian Eno for his devotion to the thing, apparently committed to wringing every last friggin' sound out of six-op FM synthesis.
Hey, I've been around more....coincidence?
2 things.
- U-myx?
- I know a guy who could program his dx27 and make it sound good, apart from that they can be wuite good for those sweet little bell noises NO like so much, and propping up wonky cupboards.
if you don't know what they are talking about check out the jetstream cd single - it allows you to mix the track yourself to a limited degree

It also exposes just how little Hooky there is on the track (the video mix, at least). I was kinda hoping there'd be a solo track of pure Hookiness for all of our mixing pleasure.

word to that!
I assume this requires the use of DOS-XP?
mumble grumble.
Suppose if I was being FORCED to use DOS anyway, I could go the whole hog and rip the lot into cubase....or are such things not easy with the material provided.
Aint bought it anyway......I only buy New Order singles, and New Order Singles are not on albums. What's worse is there are never any alternate NO mixes these days, just the original, maybe an instrumental or accappella, then a whole pile of the talentless-but-owns-an-akai brigade queueing up to put a NO sample on some random track they made 2 years go that no one wanted. What I wanna know is where's "dubstream" :)
Quit yer mumble-grumblin', man. (And I told you, I use an FZ, not an Akai.
)
U-myx is essentially a Macromedia Director runtime thingy, so it works on all sorts of systems. In fact, OllyB is seen using a lovely Apple Powerbook to demo it on TV.
And yes, you can bounce the individual tracks to WAV files and import them into, ahem, real software for folding, spindling, and mutilation.
Put your mixer where your mouth is and get mixin', son. I'm gonna call mine Dubstream, I think.
As someone who doesn't understand half of the above but HAS been able to master umyx I can highly recommend it for non-techieheads...
but it's a shame there isn't more of bernie's "mmm mmm mmm yeah!" to play with
Now Gnu, you can only call it dubstream if it's endless percussion with everything else swimming in and out in reverb, a la dub vulture, bizarre dub and kiss of death.
I wasn't accusing you of being one of the AKAI loop monsters. The S1000 we had did a juds on me, LIVE ON BLOODY RADIO. I don't think I used it again after that, too much rage :)

Yeah, its pretty easy - problem is, when you listen to the individual tracks, there are so many bits you would want to clean up - it gets anoying. I've got 2 mixes sent in - Jetstream (a little heavy mix) and DUBstream - I like them. Might try one more before the competition ends. & the fact that you cant move the parts around is a pain - like you i'd love to fill my dub with the 'mmm mmm mmm yeah' part.
If you want to clean parts up- try using the volume automation feature by clicking on th plus buttons on the left of each track. This lets you isolate individual words, drum hits etc.
The next version of u-myx does let you move song sections around, but some bands aren't keen on it- so it'll only appear on certain releases.
Best

Olly, does this mix contest allow for more than one entry per person? It doesn't say on the contest site.
Thanks.
As far as i know you can enter as many as you like... Warners run the competition bit, and someone there has to listen to them all, selecting the top 20 or so which the band then choose between.
Putting up more than one is also good since there's more to download for others. Muse fans are still putting mixes up here...

...for a single that came out last September!

Useful tip! Hadn't thought of using the vol control to do that...
Thx Olly

...on the other hand it might have sounded a bit TOO Jacques Lu Cont...
Well, I don't make fan mixes, but I do mix records and have the Tom Neville Remix of Jetstream in my new DJ mix. I like all the mixes really, but this one is a fun one to mix with.
Current mix:
M83 - Don't Save Us From The Flames (Superpitcher Remix) Broker/Dealer - Opening Night Interpol - Hands Away (Dirtyhertz Remix) Fischerspooner - Just Let Go (Thin White Duke Remix) The Glimmers - Cassette New Order - Jetstream (Tom Neville Remix) Out Hud - One Life To Leave (Remix) Metro Area - Honey Circuit Swayzak - Snowblind (Richard Davis Remix) Tosca - Damentag Roy Davis Jr. - Soldiers Listen JT Donaldson - Trust Me (Dub Rework)
Here is one of my mixes with Krafty on it if you are interested in listening to it.
DJ Shadow -vs- Keane - We Might As Well Be Strangers New Order - Krafty (Phones Reality Remix) The Killers - Mr. Brightside (Lindberg Palace Club Mix) VHS or Beta - Night On Fire (Tommie Sunshine Remix) Chicken Lips - Master Jammin' (JMA Edit) Joshua & Karl Injex - The Sun, The Moon, The Stars Aya - Sean (Eric's 2wfu Dub) Depeche Mode - Dream On (Pink Noise Mix) Andy Caldwell - The Waiting Game Afro-Mystic - Natural (Kaskade's Roots Mix)
Just to let you know the latest list of entries. BTW some of these are just the Full Mix with a couple of blocks wiped out - not much in terms of originality. Then there are others that sound like a totally different mix, kudos! I'm too lazy to turn any of these into wav and host them, so just go buy the single and listen to them on umix!

Hmm..What's to stop someone from using someone else's U-MYX file and slightly tweaking it and claiming it as their own? For example, switching between the "Salford Vocal Mix" and the "Ironwill Lover Mix" (which is mine) in U-MYX with the volume properties viewable, it is clear to see that the properties for the Ana-Vox, High BV, Guitar, Synth, Piano and Drums are all the same. Yes, some sound blocks are different but the volume settings are the same.
Yes I'm bitching because I want to win that Ipod
not do all the work for someone else to win.![]()
Spotnick, ollyb, what's your take on this?

Considering that ALL of the "official" remixes are almost entirely based on the PH sequence that appears at 0:40 to 0:48 and 2:00 to 2:08 on the album version, it is particularly irritating that this sequence is entirely missing from the U-myx version.

Have these been blocked now? I downloaded a couple of mixes a few days ago (just to check out the competition, honest, see if it was worth sending in an entry or two) but now can't seem to get on the web page...![]()
surprised they were posted there before 20 June in the first place...

Well here's the link http://www.u-myxneworder.com/index.php and it still works. I have noticed that some files won't download for some reason. Maybe a bad upload. The ones that worked before still work now and the ones that didn't work before still don't work. Well maybe that will help reduce the competition for us
but I don't think anything has been blocked. I'm not posting anymore mixes until the last possible day. Should've figured someone would do something low like that.![]()

yep you're right, but there's an awful lot of them that are not downloading - like 80%

olly, have you posted a remix or is someone using your moniker???

Your Army Moses remix doesn't work.
If you like check out mine...
Bere's Minimix Stephen Forgive Me Mix
(Link as above)
I didn't check out other Mixes before doing them. Any similarities (if there are any) are pure coincidence.
