DeLuxe Edition New Order ?

My local megastore has racked up a whole wall of the DeLuxe Edition CDs that have been multiplying rapidly over the last year - Weller's STANLEY ROAD and DJ Shadow's ENDTRODUCING has just been given this treatment, almost just to prove that the format can be applied to more recent landmark LP's.

There are loads of the things now, and some I have to say just don't seem to warrant the treatment, which involves something along these lines; normally, the 1st disc is the original LP remastered and/or with special takes, mixes and 2nd disc is full of rare mixes, b-sides, live tracks or indeed whole gigs and alternate album versions. In a perfect world, one's favourite New Order album (or all of them etc) would come out as a DeLuxe Edition. So in my case this would be TECHNIQUE. Disc 1 would be the original LP remastered, and then the single mixes and B-sides could be tacked on to fill up the remaining 40 mins; RUN2, MTO, Round&Round 12", Best & Marsh, Silk's Fine Time. Nothing we haven't really heard before but all digitally remastered to perfection with improved levels - anything else that should be on there? Disc 2 could then be a great SBD '89 gig - anybody know which one would be the best? Cuyahoga or Irvine etc? Weller got a 3rd disc, a DVD no less, so if he's got one, the Order should have some vids and tour footage thrown in there on a third 'un. NB- such footage might exist, isn't there a promo vid that has Barney monkey dancing on stage from this period? Forget which song it was for now...

Anyway - enough of the rambling. It is probably pure fantasy (or maybe not, let NOOLER's come forth and dispel this notion please) but I was wondering what people would come up with if their fave NO LP came out in this format ie. which one would it be and what would be on it?

And could it ever happen?

What is it with some 'fans' and their desire to be endlessly ripped off? Personally, however, I'd like a deluxe edition of the "Salvation" soundtrack complete with samples of:

1. Hooky's nasal hair (with cocaine traces)
2. Steve's smegma
3. A towel Barney wiped his armpit with
4. Two of Gillian's pubes
5. One of Rob's discarded dog ends

Woudl any other fans like to see this happen?? I'd love to know. Just say if you think this is unlikely, but I think it'd be a great addition to any collection!!!

It is unlikely. The Deluxe Edition series is made up of albums which are on labels owned by the Universal Group. Whilst DJ Shadow's "Entroducing" was originally released on Mo'Wax I believe at least some of the label's back catalogue is now owned by Universal, hence the DE re-release. London Records used to have a distribution deal with Polygram (which was either taken over by or renamed Universal) but it is now distributed or owned by WEA so if there are any New Order re-releases they are unlikely to be in the style of the DE series (which is a pity as I like the DE series and I wish One Dove's "Morning Dove White" would be given a DE re-release).

If you are looking for possible ways that New Order's back catalogue could be re-released take a look at the recent re-release of R.E.M.'s WEA albums as CD/DVD-Audio packs. WEA have been keen supporters of the DVD-Audio format whilst the other majors (and particularly Sony and Universal) have gone for the Super Audio CD format. However, I think any major re-release campaign is unlikely.
