When will New Order re-release those old videos like "Substance 1989" out on DVDs

Who knows, perhaps when the current single releases are over.

From WIM: Rhino will be releasing a DVD compilation of all New Order videos, expect two new video from old songs (Ceremony and Temptation) directed by Michael Shamberg. Expect a release date mid September 2005. Sleeve will be done as always by Peter Saville. New Order did film the show in New York during their mini US tour 2005, Hyde Park yesterday was filmed as well. There is some possible plan for a DVD release of those two shows later in the year, an indoor and outdoor experience.

This is pretty cool, but NO are still under-represented on DVD, take a bow, Academy, Pumped Full Of Drugs, Neworder Story, plus all the Glasto 87 footage

So that confirms what I heard yesterday.

Wanted to confirm before posting it, but I was beaten to it ;)

This is great news and a long time coming. Without research, i do not know what Michael Shambles has directed in the past so I cannot comment on the new videos for Temptation and Ceremony. And if it isn't asking too much, it should have extras featuring all the TV shows they have appeared on ALA The Jam's effort.

He did TBTHOG I believe.

Not happy about Warner forcing them to make video's for those songs....how hopelessly media led.....it CAN'T be a single without a pefect 3:30s film to go with it.

This is GREAT fucking news!!!!!

Cant wait to see all the videos I've never seen before(read 99% of all NO videos :) )

Don't get too excited, they are mostly crap.

The True Faith one alone makes it worth it. I'd also want to see Here Are The Young Men/Substance/Factory Flick out for Joy Division

Oh yeah thanks CTB, Steve has made a good point about having to do retrospective videos, but have they not missed EGG, Thieves as well?

Shamberg also had a part to play in the True Faith 94 video, which sequenced earlier vids into the original TF and it had an extra couple of pieces from the Glastonbury 87 performance at the end of the gig. He's a long time friend of the band.

He also shot the extra interview on the 316 video, and if memory serves, it was him that we seen on the 98 tour on stage with the hand held camera, cos several of the clips were featured on the 511 DVD (Apollo, MENA, R98 and Ally Pally) :thumb:

Maybe he also did the live performances of Ceremony and Temptation we see briefly in the New Order Story

  • Waiting For The Sirens' Call will be the next single and is expected for early August.
  • Rhino will be releasing a DVD compilation of all New Order videos, and there should be two brand new videos of older songs (Ceremony and Temptation) directed by Michael Shamberg. This compilatiohn should be released in mid-September, artwork will be done by Peter Saville.
  • There is a possibility that the Hammerstein Ballroom (New York City) and Hyde Park (London) shows will be released on DVD later this year.
  • No live date are expected after July 31st this year

They are all online here, so it's your fault if you didn't!

My post looks stupid now that I merged both threads, but...

Apparently someone saw me bitch and complain about it earlier...so you can all thank me for this release :evil4:

One qualm: if there are "extra features", they should consist of some live JD/NO performances, with the few handful of JD videos (Something Else, LWTUA, Atmos) on for the diehard fans like moi :thumb:

I knew as soon as I went to the trouble of getting my "Best Of" VHS converted to DVD they'd release them properly...

That's my dream. I have ALWAYS wanted the entire footage of that Ceremony from NewOrderStory. I wish I knew the date and venue it was filmed.

It's from a UK television show called "Celebration"...

bout fucking time they did this. And I was right about them filming a live DVD for every damn tour.

But you know what, I don't really feel excited about Tour 2005 DVD this time. I don't know why. We've got 316, 512 and the latest tour tracklist adds just a few new songs and a load of almost the same arranged and pre-recorded stuff. They should have filmed them at some unusual venue, should have made a TV Special or something to have a challenge to that kind of footage. 316 had it - NO hadn't released live videos since 1989, so it was exciting. 512 was also - to see how they are "NOW". But a new one - what would it add? (Well if it was Oakland... another story ;) )

Do you know what date it was filmed?

23rd April 1981 (broadcast 18th June 1981) according to New-Order.net.

Unfortunatley the Search option is knackered, I had all the TV appearances in Chronological order, starting with Celebration up to the last batch of stuff on TV in 2002.

That date broadcast was indeed 18-6-81

6 Songs were aired, I think they recorded 8 or 9.

1 Dreams Never End 2 ICB 3 Chosen Time 4 Little Dead (Denial) 5 Ceremony 6 Truth

Wow! You know so much. I've never known about that. Isn't it kinda odd for them to be taped for TV so early back then? I mean THE band scarcely had only one single to date. As for what I saw on NewOrderStory the footage quality is nearly perfect. Well they could indeed release on that upcoming DVD at least Dreams Never End from that show too.

By the way, any suggestions for the "anthology" DVD? Let's help Warner before they'd marr it :evil4:

Not many of the ealry ones, but most of the later ones, but don't hold your breath for that stuff to ever surface.

Better not just be Rhino, but Warner Music.

You want unusual? download a boot of NYC. If they put that on DVD it will either be a study in how to honk off the nice record company who spent a fortune on a pro video crew. OR We'll all have hours of endless fun laughing at how they bent and warped it to make it sound acceptable. there are some masterpieces of sneaky bastard postproduction on 5:11

eg...intro to atmosphere, hooky's enormous bum note, SO clearly audible in the boot is turned WAY down on the dvd AND bent back on pitch (hence turning it down so the pitch shift didn;t stink the whole place up)

But that hammerstein gig? LOL no fookin way,,,,and if they DO manage to sanitize it, as I say, a brilliat object lesson in how to alter NO to make them sound like britney.

It's a shame that they'll release the DVD right in between two albums when they are all very aware that more videos are on the way along with the next album, so what's the point of doing this NOW ?

Rhino screwed up the packaging for 511 and 316, they would take Peter Saville's nice design and wreck it by adding a blurb on the back about how important the band are, blah blah...

Rhino: for the love of God just leave it alone. It's what the fans want.

I guess you want to wait for them to retire to release videos and "unreleased gems" etc? Better now than in 10 years, am I right, the man up north? :)

If it's a Rhino release, it means Region 1 US/Canada only...?!?

Funny... We'd have to check of Warner Music Vision has anything planned for the UK...

Montreux 93

& Leuven Belgium December 1985. There have also been camera's at several other gigs, but leaked footage has not reached us :(

On my old computer I have a list of all the known LIVE videos that have surfaced as well. Myself and Digi Mike have most (if not all) of them, thanks to manic trading over the last 10/15 years. So he could put the list up, cos he's always got his available:thumb:

If I dinae have a job masel, I'd love nothing more to do a DVD Set with all the TV Stuff we've collated, one of my fellow onliners who doesnae post has done his own 3 part box set which is great. Unfortunately ma dad has me doing all his Celtic stuff, so it could be the end of year before I get one started.

Wish they'd put out Chicago '05

Great gig, my first, plus I would always find myself in the crowd (stupid tosser wearing a blue visor ( :skeptic: ) jumping up and down like a crack baby esp. during "Love Vig" and "Temptation" )

:D

Edit: Anyone know where I still can get an audio/video bootie of said gig?

I couldn't agree more with that-make them Region 0 for ALL fans, not just the ones in the big ol' U S of A!!

Got a mail from the US management (!), they will probably send me the tracklisting today, they were waiting for a confirmation about the extras...

I really hope we get NewOrderStory v.2 on DVD... but please God; don't let them start any new mumblings about when the end may be nigh... The band's DVD biog isn't the place to do this, unless they do it (say goodbye) properly on the DVD, in which case I hope it isn't released for many a year yet...:faint:

Interesting complaint since 316 wasn't available in Region 1 for quite some time after it came out in Europe. In the past I'd say it's the US that's been shafted as far as New Order DVDs.

Are you sure about that. I looked closely at my 316 some time ago, and I'm sure its multi if not all regions. Is it not just that the US was late in getting it into the shops.
