i would take out special and put in spooky. the others i agree on.
I've always thought New Order should be a ep band. Most of there albums are inconsistent. Republic is no different.Through the yrs Ive always relied on my own NO mixes for listening. Its amazing how their works adds with the absence of some unremarkable albums.
Spooky is a top tune i would say. Didnt realize that until recently. What does that voice say at the Begining? is it 'love mechanic'?

Your right. I dont expect perfect albums. Maybe there has been about 25 perfect albums imho in my lifetime. 25 actually might be a low number.
If Substance was proper, i would say it was perfect. I adore every track on it inclding SOTN(prefer 2 disc).

The Jetstream remixes are also very good.
With NO, the remixes are indispensable, IMHO.

Damn, the Jetstream CD blew me away!! I loathed the song on the LP but the remixes are fabulous! Listen the Richard X one. For you it's better to get the American edition: it has both J-E-T and Krafty remixes.

Perhaps, I shall go on amazon for it. I couldnt find the single in any local stores. Strange considering there was an overload of 'Krafty' singles.

Yeah looks like the single of Jetstream conducts a secret double life over here in the States: it's been # 1 in Dance charts, but have you ever heard it or seen it in stores? :\ohwell:

Dude, I totally hear what you all are saying. It was #3 on the Billboard Club Play chart for two weeks straight. Never heard it int he clubs, never saw it in any of the chain stores, never saw it in Virgin Megastore in Orlando where I buy a lot of CDs on day trips, so I had to order it from CD Warehouse, 8 weeks after it's release.
Finally got it last night (longest I ever had to wait for a new New Order single) and the mixes are
FABULOUS!!!!! EXCELLENT REMIXES AS ALWAYS!!!!!

i got mine on amazon.co.uk. in retrospect, i don't know if it was worth it, as none of the remixes blow me away. i had more fun with the U-MYX--that was the highlight of the purchase for me.
gnu odor (where is he?) did a remix that was infinitely better than any on the CD single.

Republic is a great CD, sure it's out of tone with everything else they've released, but if you're in a shoegazing mood it's excellent!

My problem with the U-myx was that it omitted the PH bit that was the highlight of the track for me and that was the heart of all the remixes.
Hell, Republic was the first New Order album I heard and actually I tried hard to like this freaking band - well via Republic in this case.

My question related to DW's joke about PH and alkalinity and acidity, not the Stome Roses.
On the subject of the Stone Roses, I got their album based on recommendations from both H and Mr. Big, and I was underwhelmed.

It's almost as much fun as leading juveniles astray.
Power, Corruption And Lies is perfect.
Yet its songs are not in my favourites Top 10.
It's just a perfect album as a whole, each song is excellent.
Republic has a couple of weak songs, but it's still a great album. And Chemical is criminally underrated.
That chorus is too cool!

I don't know, I've always liked Republic. I can't listen to Liar, but the rest is great in my opinion. Not classic New Order, but definatly worthwhile material.

I really like Republic as an album. As for EPs I'd rather have a whole album with some crap songs than just the good ones. I'd always think... If only they'd done more... You see what I mean?
As for the cover art, I like all of except the couple on the beach - it very daggy to me - white clingy board shorts are objectable! But the foldout is great. Shame the worst bit is on the cover.

Your cover is very good (I really like the keyboard tune), though I'd sample to death the two moments I adore on the song, apart from the chorus: the minimal but storming techno keyboard in the interlude, and the minimal but absolutely cool bass in the ending: two perfect example of New Order at their best in playing melodies made of two notes!
