TWENTY minutes of New Order

So - set list predictions then??? Transmission, Blue Monday????
20 minutes will be satistying, but make you want more!
Transmission, WFTSC, LWTUA and Blue fookin Monday.
Now, do i embark on a mid week 400 mile round journey to hear those four songs?
Fookin hope not! If i can go to two New Order gigs in a year and not hear Blue Monday it'll be a major achievement.
You never know, they might stretch to five songs :) In that case: BLT to be added!
thank christ i'm not goin down sarf for that then. £25 a pop too.
Killing Joke's comin up in October, and that's way more important than a four-song NO greatest (non) hits show.

'course you do! Did Newcastle to Brixton and back in 1989 for Big World Cafe, still think it was worth it for 4 songs.
PS following a debate with Liam on this, does 4 songs constitute a gig, can you add it to your list?
Fookin' Blue Monday from 300 yards away in Belgium counts as a gig as far as I am concerned!
Yes, I'm afraid this is confirmed as the set length.
My guess is we'll get....
LWTUA Transmission Temptation Blue Monday
2 x NO and 2 x JD. Defo no opportunity to rehearse something new with Hooky being away in the States.
If they want to do something a bit different, they could play tracks that have been part of Peel sessions over the years. Can't see it tho'.

Yep. He's right. Will sort out transport soon enough. Two trips to london in a month for me.
Thinking on, Atmosphere has surely got to be in with a shout?! Also named No.1 in the All Time Festive 50 in the year 2000. Plus, it's a very sobering moment for a wake! Wonder if they'll swerve the likes of Temptation and Blue Monday to play 'shorter' numbers to squeeze more in and get five tracks out on the night?
I'm gonna guess -
Regret Transmish WFTSC LWTUA Atmosphere.
And I wonder if they realise just how much of THEIR crowd it's gonna be, and not just some stuffed-shirt do like the NME earlier this year?!

Watch yourself, else your mates will think you've gone all la-di-da on them, picking up our posh Southern ways.
You'll be using a knife and fork next! ![]()
Well we know the Fall set will consist of either one long rambler or eight new songs that nobody has ever heard, so what are the chances of the Order doing some of the new album stuff? You have to live in hope...... ![]()
i still would have liked to been there because john peel is one of my heroes
also for the pre-gig piss up with you folks
i suppose 20 minutes means some of you will be able stay in pub until 9.30

Whats a fork?
I'm still jealous as fuck. Just slightly less so than yesterday. Though as someone above points out, it means the piss-up gets elongated, so.....![]()

i think a fork is what cockney's eat them nasty dirty welks and eels they pluck from the thames with ![]()
This definitely constitutes a gig. I ain't going down for fuck all
That will make it a big 16 ![]()
Regret Transmish LWTUA Temptation Atmosphere.
So how long do the poor fuckers down the bill get? Enough for one song, or just a verse and chorus...

I agree, I always included BWC in my list but Liam was arguing that it wasn't the case - 4 songs was a TV show. Let's see if he changes tack on this.
Uncle Liam wrote: I bet everyone gets equal time. Cant wait to see those Venetian Snares!
think you'll find venetian snares is just one bloke mate. not really my cup of tea though.
& what were you doing asleep at 1am? lightweight!
If they don't do WFTSC, then they really gave up on promotion ;)
But Transmission is a sure thing, Temptation is also a sure thing I'm quite sure of it.
Did Peel enjoy Blue Monday?

And, cue the whinging.
Is this published info, or whispers from a mate?
Anyway it’s still going to be great night.
I think I'll travel to the CapitAAAl (Ahh!) A.M. so I can drink P.M.

Straight from Hale and Pace;)
The first time I heard Fine Time was when John Peel played it on his show. I would love it if they did a real alternative set. I konw its not going to happen but a Peely favourt set would be good.
My Prediction is Transmisssion, True Faith, Atmosphere, Tempataion.

I sure hope so, but I doubt it will be in reality.
I'm sorry to sound like a terrible newbie, but I genuinely can't work it out!
What does LWTUA stand for?
Have already worked out that WFTSC is indeed Waiting For the Sirens Call.
Sorry about this guys....

love will tear us apart.
meaning half the set will be joy division and half will be new order, as peel played and loved both incarnations of the band.
it gets even more interesting when people use morse code.
anyone think they'll pull off a surprise and play something they didn't play on their last tour, as this is a special gig? ceremony, maybe?

According to an acquaintance who works for the venue the guest list is around a third of the 900 capacity.

Last Wanker To Unilaterally Ask
we don't know what it stands for anymore. It used to stand for honesty, integrity and the US way of life, now it stands for any old biddy who doesn't have a seat!

Doubt it, but to be honest if they can't play Ceremony off the top of their heads then they really are struggling.
I'm sure we'll get all the standards. I also wouldn't mind betting that Radio 1 will gently "advise" each band what they might like to play. They have got their listener figures to think about...

Yea but this is Peel we are talking about, renown champion of the obscure tracks and not adverse to playing the B-side in preference to the A side :D
- surely they wont comprise that...
Hmmm, yes it would be nice if they were to be Peelesque for the day, and play the unexpected, but this is New Order, champions of the line of least resistance since leaving Factory. It could be an all-JD set with Blue Monday to finish, that way we get 5 songs instead of 4, but I strongly suspect they will do what they know best.
Bit of a cop out if they play Blue Monday. its been said that Peel didnt rate it that much compared with some other songs. If they headline, and dont play Blue Monday they could get five songs in.
I am now convinced they will play Atmosphere. I wonder if Barney will "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" his way through it as normal.
Uncle Liam wrote: I am now convinced they will play Atmosphere. I wonder if Barney will "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" his way through it as normal.
Fcuking hope so! Wouldn't be New Order if he didn't.
I'm gonna buy a job-lot of lighters so that we can all hold them up when they play this one.

You would think Atmosphere, Transmission and LWTUA have all got an equal shout, but at least one of em is gonna have to make way for a NewOrder song surely.
I dont post much but always read everything with reat interest, I like Tim and Al's comments etc as well as my good friend Digital Mike!
Anyway, just a thought, when New Order played at this venue 20 odd years ago I seem to recall that when they did the encore that Hooky mumbled about having to pay the venue for "overshooting" the allocated time. If they they come on last they may overshoot the mark again and we could end up with 7 or 8 tracks.
Unless they do what they did at the Royal Court in Liverpool and come on first at 6.30pm!!!
David
yep it looks loke the setlist will be "the usual suspects" as it is,but i hope they throw in a peely fave or two, peely has been quoted saying your silent face and age of consent was among his fave new order tracks so heres hoping.
Transmish is surely the only absolute 100% certainty, right? And I can't tell if Al is being facetious about the lighters or not. Though I suspect he means it, maaaaaaaaaaaan..!!!!!

Mike said you're down for this, yes?!
Dunno it anyone's seen this, but here's the tracklisting for the forthcoming Peel tribute CD (which I guess gives at least a glimmer of hope for those praying for the perfect clanging chimes of the Order's debut at QEH):
Lonnie Donegan – 'Lost John' Tyrannosaurus Rex – 'Deborah' Pink Floyd – 'Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun' The Jimi Hendrix Experience – 'Spanish Castle Magic' Van Morrison – 'Sweet Thing' David Bowie – 'Life On Mars?' Eh up DB, long time no post!
7 or 8 tracks would be magnificent, but can't honestly see it happening. Fingers crossed!
Yes Tim and Al I am attending may have at least one ticket spare, going down during the day so hope to meet up and put some faces to names and pictures.
Looking at another post earlier it seems that they may play about 40 mins..excellent, but what I want to know is where is the "warm" up gig!!!!
Seriously, to everboddy who has a ticket this is going to be THE gig of the century by any band. New Order in front of 900 oddpeople, it really does not get much better than this (well with the exception of the seats!) But from memory that was not a problem in 1983 (is that right Tim?) when they were here last...Decades...foookin hell I can still feel the tingles down my back even now when I remember them playing that.
Go steady everyone and safe journey to wherever the pre-gig drinks are .......over to Al for that information!!!
David

Has anyone thought of the possability that they could be allowed to do TWO sets? One JD & one NO - 8 songs

Got to agree with that: of all the cream of what we quaintly used to call 80s 'alternative' music (Smiths, Order, Bunnymen, Pixies), the JAMC and the Cocs have been left behind in the reputation stakes. 90% of my students are Scottish, and yet none of them have ever heard of either band when this poxy fucking country should really be building statues in their honour!!
