Where did you buy your Blue Monday?

All this vinyl this week made me remember getting the original Blue Monday on 12" and the shop is long gone.....Woolworth in Londons Oxford Street to be precise. Anyone else remeber it vividly? (Buying the record, not Woolies in Oxford Street...though brownie points for anyone who can remember said huge emporiums location...I do!)

13th March 1983, Music Market in Worcester. Played it both sides every single day for over a year. It's still a great record, just wish they didn't feel they have to play it at every gig.

I didn't get into New Order until I was 13, in 1991, so I would say I bought it at a local chain store (still around) called Coconuts in December 1991. I pais $4.99 for it. It was the Qwest pressing they did in 1985 but for years I remember every shop having it in their 12" section.

got mine in 1983 at a record store on K Street (near 19th st) in Washington DC. There was a guy that worked there named Wresch Dawidjian who put little hand-written comment stickers on the twelve inch selections. I remember that the sticker said " the perfect blend of NewWave and Disco" which sounded fine to me, and he coaxed me to buy it so I did.

He later opened up a successful dance record store at DupontCircle called "TwelveInchDanceRecords" and a second store in Baltimore.

Im forever grateful to Wresch, as he intro'd me to NewOrder, Frankie, DM, PSB, DOA, and Erasure. All's I had to do was go browse the bins and read his stickers.

(A couple weeks after I got BM I saw the review in RollingStone for BM and PCL. What an amazing review....they couldnt say enough about the "SOUND" that was created for BM.)

A record shop that I can't remember the name of. It was in Swanwick - which is a small Hampshire village.

Actually got it out to look at the other day - it's totally mullered from spending about six weeks on permanent loan to school friends so that they could record it.

I don't remember a Woolies on Oxford Street, quite surprising really. Would have thought I'd remember it.

Steven Seigers in Edgware, long since departed although he still (or last thing I knew) has a shop in Mill Hill.

Forgot to say that was back in March/April 1983. First New Order purchase I ever made.

The fist New Order 12' i got was Blue Monday 88. I found it in a second-hand trade in Lille (North of France) 5 years ago.

A shop called Penny Lane Records in Chester,it was a really good place-2 floors,upstairs was all 12" Singles. Bought nearly all my NO stuff there. It closed about 10 years ago so Republic stuff probably last ones. I got a copy of that Mr Disco/Bee Gees promo there for about £4.

Our Price in Hereford. Thank god that got shut down.

i bought my copy in 98' i think from a vinyl shop in Halifax called Wall of sound

One-Up Records in Aberdeen. The shop burned down some time after, although it did re-open in a different location but it's not the same.

I KNOW i did not buy it for quite awhile after it had been released because i had STOPPED buying records at that time of it's release.Several months later i got it from MANCHESTER HMV.All i played was a taped copy for months!So i only have a BLACK inner sleeve and not the SILVER LINING(HI HO) one.Both came out on the first day i think.I also got a couple more copies used by a DJ stuffed into the same COVER years later when i also purchased the 4 set PALATINE RECORD's for £15. a small record shop in Athens, Ohio, 1983... i wasn't even sure what it was (band? album? single?), but it looked Factory and was in the Joy Division record bin.

and then i wasn't at first sure what speed it was. i was surprised at first how fast and cool Blue Monday was, which is funny because it is hardly fast compared to music from the last 15 years

Got '88 on vinyl; but the ex won destructive custody of it.

Got '95 at time of release on CD.

Got '83 in a charity shop (WTF!?) 3 Months ago- only became an NO convert in '86 so wasn't conscious of release in '83, although i was aware it was around in '83, but due to my ignorance, I thought they were a one hit wonder crew!

as i was 8 when blue monday was released and was more interested in thriller than temptation at the time, i was content to listen to BM on cassette and then CD after my 1987 conversion. i didn't pick up the vinyl until this past year, when i went on an eBay buying spree: one copy factory die-cut, one copy factory non-die-cut, one copy qwest.

Geez,I'm pretty lame.Only 3 months ago on ebay,two versions BM.As I remember BM got a lot of dance club play in So. FL. in the early '80's.I didn't even know there was a chick in the band till I first saw them in Miami Dec. 1986.I thought that was cool, even though they looked [dressed] like bikers for the gig.Then when Reagan Died June 2004,was watching the anthology, the "tear down the wall" speech, summer of '87 ,first thing I remembered was Madonna's Miami OB gig that summer.Then the chick I fell for,being the first and last time I saw her was No gigs in Miami 12/86 and 4/89.Actually I thought we had destiny and her dowry would include all their music,oh well that didn't work out.So 16 years later finally broke down and bought their tracs.It was the least I could do seeing I saw them for free both times.What really impressed me was No's female fan base.Eventually I got into their music on my own.

I remember seeing it on the shelf and curious about the floppy disc design. I didn't know it was New Order until I picked it up and read the sticker on the back.

Got the Factory US single at the local Fred Meyer, a five minute walk from my house at the time. First NO record that was available at a "regular" music store nearby (dunno why they started stocking more independent stuff in 83, but thankfully they did) , rather than a lengthy drive to one that specialized in imports. Got PC&L on vinyl and cassette, as well as the FACTUS 8 ep.

Downstairs at Virgin, Marble Arch, Oxford St. Doesn't exist any more.

Woolworths was always good for Factory stuff - I got Thieves Like Us, The Perfect Kiss, and even Young Popular & Sexy and other such obscure items at my smalltown branch.

I stole my brothers in 83, then bought my own in 84 when I left school and started working, also bought a copy off my mate which only had 1 beat before the roll rather than 2 on mine and none on my brothers, strange that. anyway bought mine from a james' in blackpool which is now some crappy clothes shop, also bought an EGG t-shirt from there, if only I could fit into it now!!!

I got mine from ebay ( I'll wait for the laughs) i only started to listrein to them a few years ago when my uncle introduced them to me at the age of 12.

i think i bought mine in spain just after it was released here.i certainly cant remember who i sold it to :D

I bought my BM on the Qwest Label in HMV Leicster Sq, London, 2 year ago..

At a now defunct record store chain called "Liquorice Pizza" in North Hollywood sometime in the mid-80s.

FON Records, Division Street, Sheffield. Before it became Warp Shop (of Warp Records - the label), which then moved across the road to a bigger shop and finally changed to Fopp.

Still stocks vinyl!
