I suppose BCD doesn't have the same feel as some of the earlier productions but i chalk that up the the equipment being different. In the confusion video i think they bring a tape reel to the dj to play. digital recording and processing can be blamed for a "tinny" sound as opposed to analogue recording. i think the breakbeats in BCD are excellent. It adds the techno dimension missing from most new tracks (except Vicious Streak).

Seriously, I don't understand why so many people are referring to the "sound of Arthur Baker" when all they are referring to is what he did in 1982-1984, about 18 years ago!!!!

The technology has changed since then, and Arthur Baked must have changed as well. His production on 1963-94 was very clean. Nothing much to do with Confusion.

I think the producer has a big influence over the sound of an album. It seems like Hague directed Republic etc...Arthur Baker knows how to sequence and layer New Order. Hooky's bass, Gillians synth lines etc...huntsman prompted this topic so i'd like to hear what he has to say. I think the New Order/Baker combination is a good one. What would Republic sound like if Baker had been behind the desk? Produced by New Order Engineered by Michael Johnson would be good to see again too.
