Get Ready vs Waiting For The Sirens' Call

I disagree with this kind of question and here's why...

What do you prefer: driving or walking?

Well, if you're going a long way and it's raining - driving is the answer.

If it's a nice day and you're drunk - walking is best.

WFTSC is the Worst new order effort(or lack of) to date. so Get ready wins by default

WFTSC is a great pop album, Get Ready is a better rock album. Both are superior to any other band's album. FACT

Get Ready includes Slow Jam, one of their all-time worst efforts. WFTSC includes Turn, one of their all-time best efforts, and contains nothing that approaches SJ in badness.

My vote goes to WFTSC.

Sirens is the sound of a band who have the confidence that they still have what it takes. Get Ready is the sound of a band putting their toe in the water to see if there were any sharks around. Besides Crystal, nothing off Get Ready will ever be revered in years to come (Primitive Notion maybe would have been if they'd learned to play it live).

WFTSC all the way for me.

I liked WFTSC better because everything sounded "fresh". There were some good songs on Get Ready, but the whole album itself was bland, in my opinion. Plus, Get Ready was a little too "rock" for my tastes. I mean, I know Joy Division is mostly rock and there are tons of "rockier" tunes that New Order have made. But the rock songs on Get Ready sounded like New Order wanted to sound like any other so-called "alternative" rock band. So, I like WFTSC better than Get Ready. On WFTSC, my favourite tracks are "Who's Joe?", "Hey now what you doing", "I told you so", "Morning Night and Day", "Dracula's Castle" and "GIAUE".

i think both albums have their faults. and those faults are some not so grand tracks... so i once combined the good tracks off of both onto one cd... made for a rather long album, and not an album that flowed too well... but it also was a new order album of recent material that i could listen to all the way through... anyway, wftsc had one or two more tracks. so wftsc wins. crystal is my favorite song off of either album, but wftsc is more consistent.

A bit of an unfair poll, as both have a lot to offer.

Hard to say, as each album has some bad eggs, but Get Ready has a few solid gems like Crystal, Primitive Notion, Someone Like You, and even 60 MPH. Meanwhile, WFTSC has WFTSC (best NO song since Here to Stay, perhaps better than anything on Get Ready), Turn, and Krafty. I'm personally going to have to lean towards Get Ready on this one.

Get Ready is definitively better.

I like WFTSC but is weaker than Get Ready there too many producers, song with lousy production, Ana Matronics ruined Jetstream, almost everything got wrong. I like the album but it is for sure the worst of all them and Get Ready is not so good as that.

In the middle are “Here to Stay” and I think that’s their best song in years and that is the way to go and “Guilt Is A Useless Emotion” (the only dance track on WFTSC) is not at the same level, although I think that. Stuart Price it’s a good producer but he did not done such a good work as the Chemical Bros with “Here to Stay”.

WFTSC due in no small measure to Who's Joe, GIAUE and I Told You So, the best songs they have made since the Technique sessions

Get Ready is fine to throw on every now and then, but will definately be seen in hindsight as a stepping stone for WFTSC and the 2006 album

WFTSC by a mile. Not that GR is awful, but it's soiled by the presence of the fools Gillespie and Corgan. New Order simply don't need 'star' guests, especially not of this calibre. And Rock The Shack is tragically unworthy of a great band.

WFTSC was a MASSIVE surprise to me - I didn't think they had it in them to make an album as great (yes, great) again. The only track I have reservations about is GIAUE. Oh - maybe Jetstream too, but it's a brave effort at all-out total pop. I'm not sure why they felt they needed to do Jetstream, but the rest of the record is so great that I feel inclined to be generous towards it. From Who's Joe through to the end of Dracula's Castle is practically perfect, and Turn and Working Overtime are a great way to end.

It's easy. I still have WFTSC in my CD-changer since May.

On the contrary, I listened to Get Ready 5-10 times only right after it was released and I barely feel the urge to listen to it again. I selected some songs off that LP and listen to them within my CD collections.

Easy WFTSC. I decided a while back Turn & WFTSC are the two best songs they have ever made. I love every song on that CD. I even grew to love Draculas Castle. I think Guilt is the only song that is weak for me.

Turn live was amazing, I love the new ending and hope it apears on a future BBC session. And the Bass for WFTSC live is my favorite Bass of all songs.

Damn hard choice. Overall WFTSC. But Get Ready has that juggernaut of a tune called Crystal which quite possibly is one of the top 10 NO chunes of all time. Few songs come close to its power. Primitive Notion and Viscious Streak need to be mentioned as well, great songs. But the 1 2 3 punch of Who's Joe, Road to Ruin and WFTSC keep my ears happy long after Crystal faded. I'm not a big Krafty fan but I adore I Told You So and the rest of the lp. Really not a bum note on the lp. For me GR falls flat when the vocals start on Someone Like You. Slow Jam is ok but not near their best effort and Rock The Shack is too exploited joyu Division for me.

I think they are both essential New Order albums but Get Ready was hit and miss for me while WFTSC was an overall better album to me in terms of the songs themselves. It didn't flow together as well as Get Ready but for me there isn't a bad song on WFTSC. Get Ready had Run Wild, Slow Jam, and Turn My Way which I am not a fan of those tracks at all.

you're right !!! I am still amazed by the fact that a lot of people prefer WFTSC to GR... I know the lattest best so it is still difficult for me to have a clear idea... because the first time I heard the both, I did not have the same feeling at all. I was so disappointed the first time I listened to WFTSC that it can only get better...

Get Ready really..

On the basis that Crystal pisses over the rest of both albums combined, and is just about the last great recorded NO track as far as I'm concerned.

WFTSC is not that bad; just none of the individual tracks touch me to the level of Crystal or a Temptation, BLT, Ceremony etc.

Here's to the next album trouncing them both. I will be pleasantly suprised if it does.

Every NO album produced 3 or 4 songs I absolutely loved and Get Ready didn't do that for me, only Crystal.

WFTSC does with wftsc, turn, guilt, and hey joe.

Tuff one but I think Get Ready was a little darker and hesitant. 3 out of 5

WTFSC wins because of the title track and guilt and better remixes of the singles. 4 out of 5

Hmmh, seems like a never ending debate, but its my fervent belief that WFTSC is better than Get Ready. GR is too rocky and guitary. Admittedly Crystal is an excellent NO track, but Krafty, Hey Joe, Turn and WFTSC are all much much better.

Blimey - such unanimous praise for "Crystal" it's untrue. I don't know why this is but I have always personally felt that that song is one of the most overrated New Order songs of all time. It's okay but...not as spellbindingly brilliant as some of you make out.

After all it ISN'T 100% perfect whilst there are those cheesy "heyyyyyyyy" and "hoooooo" backing vocals in it (which I have previously mocked already!). The song would have been far far better without those bits spoiling it. It works just right without ANY female backing vocals in my opinion.

The best tracks on Get Ready for me are actually "Primitive Notion" and "Close Range".

I agree that Blobby Gillespie completely ruins the second half with his presence though.

If the subject is "overrated," Regret is always my favorite candidate in that category, but definitely not Crystal.

I pick WFTSC by a nose.

They both have their merits. Get ready is rockin' and raw, while WFTSC is basically a pop album. Not a big fan of Slow Jam or Rock the Shack. They're not terrible songs, just average. While on WFTSC they are only good and great songs.

Have to say Sirens. Its got a pleasant feel to it, whereas Get Ready is a bit of a dirge at times.

Both have some stinkers, but if the next album produces just a couple of gems like the last two, I'll be happy.

Crystal was a weak effort for the band...60mph and turn my way are much better choices of the album and i like primitive notion.

Absolutely agree 100% GR had it's moments, but WFTSC is much more representative of NO's greatness, IMHO. CTB

It's like WFTSC met Get Ready in a bar and Get Ready said something rude about WFTSC's mother so WFTSC punched Get Ready in the face, kicked him in the balls, knocked him to the ground, took a pis on his head, dumped whiskey on him, set him on fire, threw him out the bar room window into the path of an oncoming bus, picked his mangled body up, took him to a cursed burial ground and buried him under an upside down cross.

It's like that. And that's the way it is.

for me WFTSC is much better than get ready. GR was too rocky for me and i thought too much for the US market...

get ready--there are just more songs on it that i prefer to the ones on WFTSC. such as the perfection that is slow jam.

getready is a great album. it took me a long time to fully appreciate it.

Waiting has its moments, but is slow to start. I do like all the middle songs. given time the rest may grow on me as well.

Anyway, good to see it again, because I've changed my mind; I think Sirens is slightly better that GR now...

Both totally different beasts; GR is the best if you're in a rocky mood, WFTSC is best if you want a bit of uplifting poppier stuff. WFTSC also has more diversity.

GR- 8/10. WFTSC- 8.5/10.

I would generally only listen to Crystal and Primitive Notion from GR these days. (Appropriate little nod to Here to Stay.)

There's only JET & Working Overtime that I don't listen to from Sirens, which has not left my car CD since the day it came out.

I adore Turn & Drac's Castle and really like all the rest.

i admit that when Get Ready rolled out, it sounded damn good. WFTSC rocked Get Ready out of the water! WFTSC is key listening, yo!!!

My favourite was Technique, but now it's WFTSC. Get ready had some good songs (Primitive Notion above all) but WFTSC has more good stuff (Turn in particular).

Hm... kinda hard to chose between these two. I like parts of both, but they're not my favorite NO albuns at all. (now if it was between any of those 2 and Low-life or Technique.. I'd know for sure which one to chose.. ;) )

Btw, about WFTSC.. While browsing amazon uk, I'd found out that they have it for £1.96. A great deal to get a copy to a friend, I think :)

Crystal is by far the best track to come out of both albums. if i was to make one album out of the two, more songs would make the cut from GR.

I know that we had to wait 8 years for GR but when I heard Crystal it just blew me out of the water, like a lot of other posts have said the two albums have some outstanding tracks but for me GR just pips WFTSC mainly because of Jetsteam.

Get Ready...which grew on me a lot faster. Still processing WFTSC, but strangely it's a tough choice.

It's a tighter call for me.

Some of the Pearce production and lyrics on WFTSC make the vote a lot closer than perhaps it should've been.

Crystal is light years ahead of Krafty as a single, due mainly due the latter's dull lyric. Jetstream was a misadventure, along with the album version of GIAUE. On the flipside, the 60MAH single was 'New Order by numbers' at its worst. And I don't dislike RTS myself, although people moan about it endlessly here. Both also have their own song title crimes.

The WFTSC/Turn highlights of WFTSC are stronger than the best two on GR.

They're both decent as far as the NO canon goes but neither crack my top 3. Mid-table players.

How quickly we forget that piece of shit Rock a Shack is on Get Ready but Slow Jam is a rather interesting piece in my opinion.

Siren's wins between the two once you cut out Jetstream and Working Overtime.

I will say Crystal was much overrated til the day I die. I think I've grown to hate it.

I agree with a lot of folks here about Crystal.. simply a powerful, hypnotic rock song that was worth the years of waiting for any New Order material. However, the whole of Get Ready is not as good as WFTSC (WFTSC, Dracula's Castle, Krafty, Turn) I can listen to WFTSC in most of it's entirety vs. Get Ready where I mostly today only listen to the first 3 tracks.

Sorry Nic., a can't vote on this one. I like them both, period. I really don't get why so many disregard 'Get Ready' so much ? NewOrder have always been surprising and innovative, so, as i've certainly stated this before, when they came back with 'Crystal' and shortly thereafter with the new album, it was so refreshin' to hear that they were still at the forefront and with very intense stuff. Unlike 'WFTSC' which, for the very first time to my ears, sound a slight bit average, except for the brilliantissimo title track and 'Turn'. 'Get Ready' stands its marks as a very strong album. I could only hope that the next album will see NewOrder back in proper form : just like the last 2 gigs : AWESOME !

I think we NEEDED Get Ready after Republic. For me, it had tonnes of energy and sounded fresh after the lame effort of Republic. I love the first 4 tracks but find that after this it gets a little 'samey'. Fortunately, (for me as everyone seems to hate it) Rock da Shack picks it up and it finishes with some classic NO.

That said, I voted WFTHSC. Mainly because every track is so different.

Hi, I just wanted to say that you all have inspired me to make a CD of my faves from GR and WFTSC ('01 -'05). I was first drawn to New Order 20 years ago, partially because of the beats, and I still love to dance (it's great exercise), so my CD was made with this in mind. Seems that my favorites are usually the danceable ones.
