I don´t understand, what is the difference between Run and Run 2???
For me is exactly the same version!
But what do you think???

Are you judging by Singles or Best Of? Both of them are mislabeled; they actually have "Run" not "Run 2," which is why it sounds like there's no difference.
The video to "Run" has the actual "Run 2" audio. It's similar but shorter (3:30 or so), has the parts moved around a bit, and has more of the twangy guitar that John Denver sued them over.
Run is mislabeled as "Run 2" on the "best of" and on "Singles"...
Indeed the video features the real "Run 2" which has a different drum pattern if I remember right, the the 12" features an extended remix.
Those are the only 2 places Run 2 can be found.
For me "Run" sounds like a Rolls Royce and "Run 2" sounds like a Ferrari - much more dynamic! Unfortunately the 12" is hard to find due to its limitation.
Not that hard actually... pops up on regular basis on eBay for a lot less than many other things.
You can get one for about 20 euros or 25-30$ USD, and if you are lucky, a lot less than that.
RUN all the way. Run2 was a limited run for a reason. Amazing artwork but Scott Litt did a less-than-mediocre "extended version" of the track. If they wanted to do a proper mix for the song using the subtle breakish beat, bring that breakbeat to the forefront, back then that would have be revolutionary. A breaks version of Run, please!! Hybrid anyone???

- The John Denver lawsuit
- The myth that the master was destroyed in a fire
Don't look any further.
And it will never be "re-released", I don't think the band wants to pay royalties to the John Denver heirs for this.. they still have to include his name on all releases that features the track due to the off-court settlement... (never checked Singles, does it have it?)

BTW Run2 is just a remic isn;t it, a little "let's put the tape on and mix it again" job, not a full rereording or anything?

Well when I bought my vinyl copy years ago, the store owner had told me (and this was back in 1989), being the savvy collector that she was, that there was just an initial pressing of 20,000 (which is standard for vinyl back then in the UK) and it didn't make a dent or turn any heads. Thus, the North American labels didn't release it based on the lacklustre reaction from the UK market. Only the John Denver case, which supposedly came up after the initial pressing, gave the release a 'limited' tag. So possibly the whole John Denver thing was a secondary reason why it never got repressed. It really did suck and failed to compare with the prior single releases and the album itself. I wish I still had my copy just for artwork itself.
The original Technique version is the best in my opinion. As previously mentioned it was mislabeled as "Run 2" on one or two versions of 94's (the best of) which is where some fans might be getting mixed up.
The extended Run 2 mix from vinyl is just horrible. Some guitar based songs were just not meant to be turned into twelve inch dance mixes and it all sounds very forced. That ridiculous breakbeat jumping around in the background does not sit well with Barney's guitar lines or Hooky's bass. It's dated very badly.
The seven inch mix of Run 2 isn't that great either really. Overall as an edit it's ok but the drum hits (particularly snare) are headache inducing. It's available as the soundtrack to the Run 2 video on Item, you can rip it to MP3 or WAV by using any number of DVD extraction tools. It's also technically the version that should've been on Singles but instead we got the Technique version again.

So why exactly did denver sue the order over run2? It has been discussed many times but no one seems to give a straight answer.
from what I understand Run supposedly borrowed directly from the melody of Denver's "Leaving on a jet plane"
Maybe they should mash up New order and Denver and call it
"Leaving on a jet stream"

"Singles" has the album cover for Run 2 beside the credits but it sounds like the album version to me. The credits for Run 2 are as follows:
Run 2 Written by New Order and John Denver Produced by New Order August 1989
Published by New Order / Warner/Chappell Music Ltd / Cherry Lane Music Publishing / Harmony Music Ltd
All this leaves something of a bad taste in the mouth as I really like this track. I'd put it in a top ten. But then I'd put anything from the technique era up there.

If only that Marie Antoinette trailer was included in A COLLECTION. That was much so better than the incomprehensible Ceremony video.
Apologies, I got the video directors mixed up. Richard Heslop made Fine Time and Spooky, whereas Robert Frank made the Run video. That makes more sense considering the style. The Run video looks like it's filmed in Southern California, but I can't really see what license plates the cars have.
The release of Run 2 was a limited edition, nothing to do with the John Denver thing, which happened a while after the single had been released. I can remember John Peel playing it, and it was announced that it was to be a limited edition on 12" only. I guess it was like they did with WFTSC on 7" - just doing something different for the sake of it.
When you consider that Fine Time and Round & Round had multiple formats and CD singles available on the day of release, Run 2 would've had the same thing down and then got pulled had the John Denver thing influenced it.
Just a limited edition single, that's all!

Afraid not, "Run" was directed by Robert Frank and "Spooky" was directed by Richard Heslop, and i had never heard of these two "directors" until today, when i bought "NEW order A COLLECTION".

So Run 2 was on the dvd? I hadn't heard Run for a while before getting the dvd because my iPod got wiped. Definitely one of my favourite NO tracks. And the Ceremony video was good.

I think I remember reading back in the day that the release of Run2 was a way of recouping a few grand to cover the legal bills. 20,000 copies are bound to sell out and if the band can make 50p (probably a little on the high side) on each copy, plus royalties (which releasing a limtied edition kind of scuppers)... that's ten large and the rest to keep the lawyers sweet.
I also remember reading that the moon was made of cheese and that the wearing of apparel bearing the Burberry moniker was once a mark of class, so what do I know?
Now, I could make the 300-mile round trip to my hometown to pick up my copy of Run 2 and my good record player, connect the latter to my computer and carefully rip the audio from the former, turn the .wav files into high-quality mp3s and listen to them to my heart’s content on the move…
…or I could thrown myself on the mercy of the NOOL court and ask one of you kind souls to save me the effort. Big kisses, heartfelt respect and maybe some stuff from my digital archive in return.

They can release this crap but can't put out GIAUE 12inches.

No it wasn't. The single came out long before the John Denver case. It was just Factory doing their usual quirky thing, and releasing a limited edition New Order single.

Well, Run2 is good if you're in the mood for a jolly little pop romp and Run is good if you want something a bit cooler...
I like 'em both; fave depends on me mood!
I managed to pick up copies of both the 12" and 7" last weekend! I was with a mate who is a bit older than me and was surprised - it was the first time he had seen them too.

and just where is this stash of rare vinyl located? i may have to go there myself.
Run 2's drums sound so much better, more edgy and hard hitting, Run 1 is pretty dull compared, but to be honest, i'm really not a fan of Run altogether, probably the only song on Technique I do not listen to.
