At the very least, make it a proper enough release so I can get people to hound local radio stations for airplay.

Ha HA! I was right, excuse my while I gloat, I so rarely get things accurate....props to Depthy for actually reading and remembering my post from months ago
I can't search the site effectively enough to find the evidence though, but it was similar to the picture posted above. Anyone with the ability to find the thread where I suggested this design half-seriously, feel free to add the link.
I think I deserve a free promo at least for giving them the idea. Coincidentally, I'll be doing a version of Turn for CII....

Not Stern, Nicos - Tern. It's a seabird related to gulls and the like. The fact that it's a seabird kind of resonates too, as my suggested cover had a photo of a tern on a beach, making another connection with the marine theme that keeps popping up on WFTSC.
Nicos, can you do me a favour and see if you can dig up the thread where we discussed this?
Who would've thought of a connection between Ornithology and New Order? Except for 'Do the Ostrich' and possibly 'Murder' (the "Crows, crows - I hate them!" sample from Caligula - and a collective term for crows is...a Murder of crows, the plot thickens...)
OK, back to work for me.

Evidences that CTB was right (or influenced Mr Wakefield and Saville) can be found [innerurl=http://www.neworderonline.com/Forums/MessageList.aspx?ThreadID=23799]HERE[/innerurl].
Fuckin mad releasing it 4th.
It should have been the second single if not the first lifted from the album. Fuckin classic song.
And I hope it's not ruined by remixes like so many other neworder songs!
Well, I do hope they will release it... ON A COMPACT DISC.. that's all.
I doubt there will be remixes, we would have heard rumours, for some reason I expect the b-sides of WFTSC to be there, or the remixes of GUILT.

About bloody time!!!
They best also reinstate the part of the intro they lobbed off for the Singles album. Fookin lunacy. Completely fooked up the impact of a cracking opening 30 seconds.
And no fookin attempt to make it more up tempo with warbling, mad bitch in backgraound a la Anna Mantronic on Jizzstream, puuurlllleaaaaze.
Like the tern reference, if true. Absolutely barmy! ![]()

That's the whole point of a radio edit.. get right to the point, avoid too long intro.

It's not often that CTB gets to parade his bird brain on these boards but good on him for making the most of the opportunity.
In celebration of the Wakefield re-appropriation of CTB's design work, I'm gonna follow Nic's lead and pay a little homage with my avatar.
It'd be great to see others do the same. Terns flooding the boards here, what a sight.

I thought the edit on Singles basically ruined the track.
It was awful, horrible, dreadful, and bad.
The edit was a little too brutal, I'd agree.

I don't think so, the US wants to release the WFTSC mixes as digital downloads, then they were about to consider releasing Guilt properly due to its Grammy nomination.
No news on that side yet, but I highly doubt they will release Turn.. Turn is probably to please us and to fill the gap between WFTSC and the next album. (fingers crossed)

Great new. my dreams are:
Turn cd 1 Turn (single version) EGG (cicada mix) Temptation secet machine mix) GIAUE (bil hammer mix)
Turn cd 2 Turn (new mix) GIAUE (DJ Dan Club Mix) GIAUE (Mac Quayle Extended) GIAUE (Morel's Pink Noise mix)
WHAT THE FUCK IS THE POINT OF RELEASING IT? JUST SELL OUT SHITES 4 SINGLES? THEY DONT GIVE A FUCK ANYMORE AND HAVENT IN A LONG TIME. OLD CUNTS
I hope it gets a slew of remixes so that the purists get their panties in a bunch. :)
REMIXES RULE - without them, New Order wouldn't have the status and club cred that they have today. And that goes DOUBLE for the United States.
If I could have a 10-minute Leama & Moor remix of 'Turn' that'd make my 2006.
MTO - you beat me to wishing for a very welcomed treatment L&M of Turn for the forthcoming release.
On the flip we could have those elusive Planet Funk mixes of WFTSC (this would be the promo 12")either vocal or dub
Then the proper commercial 12" would be a double single of those two tracks with 2 mixes of GIAUE (Richard Morel and Bill Hamel). CD would have all these tracks plus original version of Turn and GIAUE
This would work very well, Warners could tie the Grammy Nomination onto the release.

Am I the only one who ISN'T too overjoyed about them milking the album and bringing out a fourth single? This is going to spoil the nice run they have had with all of the three previous singles reaching the top 21 in the UK: something no other album of theirs has managed. Turn is going to spoil it and stiff around the 40s or summat now. That law of diminishing returns is going to kick in with a vengeance.
And what's the fucking point in hoping for [dance] remixes of it anyway? It's a guitar song and most of the times all [dance] remixes of New Order "guitar" songs (yes, even Regret but most especially that dreadful one of 60MPH) are a bit on the sucky side.

Yes, I heard that grammar was a serious issue during those Truman years. Kids today probably wouldn't know a subject from a predicate to save their lives.
I was unsure whether it was executed for dramatic effect, or perhaps as a result of no one remembering to re-stock the coffee at your office over the break, P.

Better late than never, but it should have been released much earlier. And the edit on Singles, which I suppose will be the single version (seems logical to me...), really spoils the song, which was already short enough for the radio.

Eh? When was there ever a NO song called "Technique"?? ;)
As for the "radio edits" - they fucking suck! We've had some really crummy ones in the past - World / Ruined come to mind (why the need to snip bits off the intro anyway on those two? - there's also a dreadful one of Regret which again shortens the intro and goes straight into the first verse. I don't think it was ever commercially released but when I hear it on the radio it makes me annoyed!) but the worst one by far was the edit of 1963 we got on "the Best Of" (not the Arthur Baker guitar mix, but the other '94 one) - that was fucking crap!

Technique was aa stunning single. Shame it was never released over here.
But seriously, the edited version of 1987's glorious 1963 song is atrocious, in the sense of Perfect Kiss (album version) editing suite shocker.

Then you are simply not interested in singles.
The idea behind the single is to get airplay to promote the ALBUM and to keep New Order in the talk because they are working for a 2006 album AND are nominated for a Grammy, as simple as that.
Plus, I have no idea what will be on it, but if it's the remixes of Guilt Is A Useless Emotion, I'm sure a lot of people will be happy.

It is a tern but terns belong to the family sternidae which is where the confusion may arise.

The Gullibility of us all, heh?! I suspect a certain functional dyslexia, a tern of events that allow's us to associate images completely different from ...... what ever! Turn is a superior track, almost country and wesTern even - a vocal source, that seems Nashville inspired almost - don't be insulted Elvis and Costello both frequent/d there, plus 'they' rather like Martin H's drum licks. If country is the the root of rock - and NO are restarting their band, this is not shameful - but hopefully it annoy the small minded! To source from music, from wherever is ok by me.
It's a trainspotter's point but this release is technically the second single off Singles, not the fourth off WFTSC. On the back of the WFTSC (7" Remixes) 6 track promo CD (PR015618) it says:
WAITING FOR THE SIRENS' CALL is the first single to be taken from the album SINGLES
So Jetstream was actually the second and last single off WFTSC (album) but the song itself was the first single off Singles.

Agree totally - i don't understand why they now seem so keen to bastardize good songs to pare them down to 3-4 minutes - it wont get any extra radio play; the edits sound reletavely crap & leave out most of the best instrumental sections & often the best lyrical sections. Anyone hearing Turn for the first time in edit form will not be impressed, wheras the album version would have people phoning radio stations asking for it to be re-played.
This is NewOrder - the people who released 7minute pop songs - whats the problem??????
![]()
For Alistair, I would say: If WFTSC is the 1st single off 'Singles' then why the heck didn't GIAUE appear on 'Singles'? It was only nomintaed for a Grammy.
As I told mysilentface in an e-mail, if New Order had released 'Singles' like Pet Shop Boys released 'Discography' in 1991 (with two NEW unreleased songs) THEN I could consider WFTSC the 1st single off 'Singles'. But all those songs on 'Singles' have been released already.
They shoulda put out 'Turn' and THEN 'Singles' (with GIAUE on it) and then released it after the Grammys or something.
In my opinion, and I'm sure I'm alone here, but 'Turn' is the fifth single off the album 'WFTSC"....and so what? Def Leppard had SEVEN singles off 'Hysteria' - Janet Jackson had SEVEN singles off 'Rhythm Nation 1814' and what, Gwen Stefani has had at least 4 singles off 'Love.Angel.Music.Baby'.
Just a thought, that's all. I'm another NOOL who's bitching this Monday. :)
MTO wrote: Gwen Stefani has had at least 4 singles off 'Love.Angle.Music.Baby'.

f the remixes (I cannot buy singles for the remixes alone, and definitely not for the trimmed down radio mixes) how about some B-sides?? I loved Player in the League, Sabotage, Behind Closed Doors from the Get Ready singles. WFTSC.. nothing to make me want to buy a single. :\ohwell:
Unfortunately, the consensus on this website (I believe) is that they are "saving" the B-sides for the new album.
The thought of THAT is another thread entirely!!! :)
A few new B-sides would be awesome, ESPECIALLY if they were instrumentals. Those New Order, Electronic, Revenge, and The Other Two B-sides circa 1988-1993 were simply AMAZING!
Come to think of it, I ought to make a CD of those only.

Agreed!
Technically, Turn is the 31st single off SINGLES. ![]()
More seriously, it doesn't make sense to speak about whether a single is off the album it originally appeared on or off the singles compilation that followed a few months later, does it?
Now, for those still wanting to be anal, please observe that the design (font, etc.) of the WFTSC single was similar to that of the WFTSC album, not to that of SINGLES, which obviously makes it a single to promote the album and not the compilation.
I preferred the g'd ol' times when New Order released non-album singles and albums with no singles on it.
Technically, WFTSC and Turn are singles from WFTSC Album, not Singles. (At least the way I see it). They're being used to PROMOTE Singles at this point in time, but they're still from WFTSC, as they are originally from the album. Singles is a compilation of just that, their singles...therfore releasing a single from Singles, well, it just gets too complicated!
They're just getting extra promotion for Singles through WFTSC and Turn. It's just like when a new DVD is released in the middle of an album era, and you see promotion for the DVD on the singles. Doesn't mean the singles are FROM the DVD, just promoting it. Since New Order didn't include anything new on Singles, they're just using the rest of the WFTSC singles to promote it.
That's the way I see it, at least.

Fair enough, i've just taken the time to listen to the 'Singles' edit - its not bad at all!(far better than all the radio edits they've had in the last few years) - only problem is the instrumental section between the 1st chorus & second verse - sounds very 'cut&paste' (from 1.30-1.45ish). Anyway it does sound radio friendly, so hopefully . . . .

I was happy with the 3x7" of WFTSC.But i did get hold ofthem and the slipcase quickly.Would have been irritated if i'd had trouble getting them. And they all sound great on my turntable.
As for the edit of Turn.I just think it makes it sound like the 'needle' jumping at the start. But i've gone off the track period, recently, anyway.Loved it at first but find it a bit MOR dross lately.

If that's the case, some of us that have MD's will be the first to be able to make CD-r clones for the rest of ya
shane, thank you very much for the offer.
Crumbs, N/o announce a single release and it gets almost as much negative reaction as positive! For those who don't want Turn released I say...How bout this for a point of view: It's a free market; you want it you buy it, you don't want it, you don't buy it. There's no obligation to buy every single N/O release. You won't die! ( at least not for this).
I think NOOLers should congratulate themselves that they've got better taste than say, Marrillion fans. Whilst NOOL is sorting out a second tribute album, Marillions fan-website had the fans making contributions to fund the making of the actual band's own most recent album (I have no idea what it was called). If they wanted to see 'em live they had to save up for some convention at a Butlins or something. (Probably spent most of their time playing Dungeons & Dragons). What's my point? Well if Turn help keep N/O in the limelight (even a little) then it keeps the band relevant. As long as they're relevant (and making some dosh for London/Warners), they can justify their existance and we won't be stumping up cash to help them make their next album.! As the tagline/lyric above this submission says,"What's the use in complaining when you've got what you don't need"
