Now that i have some good songs to wake up to, what songs would you recomend for going to sleep to?

The whole of Lateralus by Tool. There are some intense guitart parts then 5 minutes of quit reflective guitar then intense and back again. If i am tired this will lull me to sleep every time

try superheroes of b.m.x. by mogwai,sets me off straightaway

You've gotta be taking the piss mate Get Ready - Bad? It's a fookin great album - fair enough we've had one or two(hundred) people slagging RTS and Slow Jam, but on the whole - most of the fans are pleased with it, even my wee cousin likes it - and he's into weird shite

I don't like it for these reasons: a) Rock the Shack, Slow Jam, 60mph, Run Wild, Primitive Notion and Close Range are really poor. b) I don't like the pop-rock direction that NewOrder are going into. Crystal is a very good song, but that's the only really good song on the album. c) It feels a bit like what it must have felt like when Genesis released 'We Can't Dance'. d) It's given my friends more opporunities to take the piss out of me for liking an 80s band.

How often do you listen to this album? Understandably for a few of the people on here they list RTS and Slow Jam as songs they don't particularly like I'll just pick up on one of the songs you mentioned - Primitive Notion...how can anyone possibly slag this song It's absolutely fuckin classic New Order!! and a song the bastards would do well to incorporate into their live set;) Pop / Rock direction? Is that not what New Order have always been about? just one example being Low-Life - Sunrise being a rockier number and a song just before it The Perfect kiss a classic pop song! all the way through with New Order they have given us variety (from songs like Ceremony to EGG to Temptation to Blue Monday to Confusion....do you get where I'm coming from?) Don't even mention the fuckwits that are "GENESIS" you can't really believe New Order have "sold out". There's no question that NewOrder are the best band ever, and when my 15 year old, Blink-182 loving friends see '60mph' on MTV it lets down all of the truly great stuff that's gone before. They don't realise that while NewOrder will probably still be remembered in 20 years (I'm not sure about new albums though), Blink-182 will be an unpleasant memory. The thing is, that the rock on Get Ready isn't as good as the rock they've done before, and the pop on Get Ready isn't as good as the pop they've done before. If Get Ready had been by an unknown band, or someone shit, like erm... Erasure I'd probably like it much more than I do. It's just that it's an album that had been in the pipeline for years, and it didn't seem as great as I was hoping when it was released.

Well I guess I, among others didnt have my hopes sky high.

for a band going for 20 odd years, they are in better shape than say U2, Depeche Mode, The Cure among others.

I think its a good album, Primitive Notion, wonderful song, 60mph is good nice whimsical pop song. Im happy with it, even if the only new order album i put behind it is republic.

Well i think one thing is for sure, and thats Grrrrready has stirred up more contraversy than any of their other albums to date.... I wont allow myself to "dislike" it but i admit it is a bit patchy in places..

me thinks republic is a far more controversial one. Get Ready has a lot of the new order elements which i love still intact with songs like crystal, primitive notion, vicious streak and 60mph and turn my way are good as well. Im only anti slow jam and run wild. Someone Like You, Rock The Shack and Close Range pass but their weaker than the first half of the album me thinks.

Blink 182? Now you're really talking! Yeah what is it with little prepubescent arsewipes like Blink 182? They're not even fit to lick the dried-out shit-stains from a crusty's 4-mth-old underpants.

Controversy time, but I've been a bit disappointed with all the albums bar Low Life and Technique. Movement was killed by flat production and several dodgy songs, PC&L is about 80% ok, Brotherhood has the crappest production I can remember on many tracks IMHO, Republic is a Barney solo record not a New Order album, and Get Ready has got too much weak stuff that outweighs the genuinely good Crystal, Vicious Streak and Primitive Notion.

i would say technique and low life are the only albums you cant fault rather than the only 2 good ones.

If they didn't have faults they'd sound Level 42, and no-one wants that. (excluding the excellent 'running in the family')

Vicious Streak and Primitive Notion don't really hold up as well as they did earlier, but on the whole I like the album. Turn My way and Slow Jam kick butt (yes, I said Slow Jam kicks butt. Anyone want a piece of me? Huh?)

Am I the only one who thinks that Someone Like You is like something from Low-Life?

Personally I don't think there's enough 'electronica' on GR. I like Crystal, SLY, Turn My Way and Close Range...the rest of it is pretty average.

I hope that Lionrock fella is busy working on the backing tracks for Perfect Kiss and Sub-culture as we speak and that Hooky demands to play Dreams Never End and Age of Consent for the forthcoming festival shows.

Seeinga s you come to mention it, you do have a point there with SLY. It does have a different feel to it. Old Lion Rock is probably working on Thieves Like Us and EGG rather than Perfect Kiss. Bastard. At least the Chems will do Here To Stay for them !

GR does sound a bit different from other stuff they've done, but there are a few points in its favour:

1. beats the hell out of Republic

2. it's awfully good (comparatively) for a band that's still running this far into the game

3. as a whole, it's really pretty good. and it still does beat the pants off of a lot of other crap littering the airwaves/recordshops/musicmags/etc. these days.

4. NO have written a lot of good songs...but not a lot of good albums. which doesn't mean i don't love them to pieces...but i'd personally have to go with Low Life, Technique, and GR as probably being the best albums when taken as whole works.

...and as for the original topic, i'd have to go with anything by Laika. though my coworker puts in that he'd go with the Stooges' Funhouse.

i love Laika to pieces. just so that's made clear. and i really hate that every time they play town (which isn't often, but still), it's invariably at a time i can't see them. when i first became a fan, i was too young to see them legally at places they'd play (and didn't have a fake ID, either)...and now that i'm of age, they have to go and play on Sunday nights quite late...with me having to get up at 4 in the bloody morning to go to work the Monday following. --;;;

*sigh* but i do think Laika makes for interesting dreams, honestly. what do you think? :D
