A decision based on New Order?

Has any made a random decision about something that ended up being influenced by New Order?

I'll give you an example.

Last year during a couple of weeks off work I fancied a short, cheap & cheerful 4-day break.

I decided on Majorca. Purely because I'd been to Ibiza & Benidorm too.

Ironically I missed the flight back, and consequently the Brixton gig

Yeh - i told me other half we couldn't set a marriage date later on this year until this years tour dates came out. But seeing as though sweet fa is happening, we have booked a day (mind you, it would be switched if they decided to do an 'oldies' set)! And yes we have fallen out on this issue, but what can you do! I had the backing of the Darlo Order like cos were a democracy! :D

yeah, i ended up on this website and forum. random.

My wife baked me a birthday cake and asked me what color frosting I wanted on it. I said 'Blue' because my birthday fell on a 'Monday' :D

The title of my website is "Young Offender" from the New Order (oh, and PSB also had a song called "Young Offender" as well, too) song.

One of my first impressions of one of teachers was that his haircut was similar to Barney's circa early 1990s ish. (Not really a decision, though.)

Oooh congratulations, when is it? Can I come on your stag do?!! That aside, When naming the kids, Barney was one of the names we considered. Our wedding was booked once we knew the Leeds Utd fixtures and when making other plans, most of the stuff centres around NO and the "possibility" of them playing. You could say really that NO runs our life (sad but true) Tis a good job we don't have huge amounts of money or it would be far worse. Imagine having the dedication of Al and Johnny Giles when you've got two kids and are both NO fans. IMPOSSIBLE

My son is called "Pedro", wich is portuguese for "Peter". Got the idea for the name from a certain bass player...

Major decision recently was whether to bother getting the 12x12"s... That was based on NO! :)

Funny! My youngest son (1yr) is also named Ian. My wife liked that name and it won out when we pulled names out of a hat to break a tie.

Out of interest which date did you eventually choose?! Just, in case, you know, we had an approximate idea of when they were gigging?!

when NO played in NYC last may i flew up for the show even though i knew i was getting pleurisy again and flying was going to exacerbate both the pain in my lungs and the inflammation. the first day i was there (the day of the show) i felt so-so; the next day, when i hung out with JG, al, and pompeyorder i felt pretty awful; my last day in the city, when i went to a friend's bachelorette party, i could barely breathe and left the party early. when i flew home i went straight from the airport to the emergency room. i was out of work for a week and on narcotics and anti-inflammatories for another two. but it was worth it! i got to see new order and that's all that matters.

I took this words too seriously:

i just drove to sydney and back today to hunt down some new order, at some obscure record shops. i have good results.

probably made hundreds of decisions down the years based on New Order but they will have been made subconciously

I did exactly the same! Back in 85 after hearing the full 12"'s of Perfect Kiss and (dare I say it) Subculture. Just wanted one so I could play along to those two. Top of my Xmas list that year - well I was only 14!

Since then my bank balance has never looked back

I have a Yamaha keyboard from 1987. I'm brushing up my skills right now to prepare for Community 3. I decided to name it Gillian.

Had my first case of theivery, as I stole the Substance tape from my older sister and never returned it to her. . .actually still have it to this day, though it doesn't work so well anymore and had to buya couple copies as I played out the tapes.

I am scared to admit how much of my life years ago was influenced by them - from leaving a job, going to Univ, moving to Manc, dating the wrong person and I would not have met my current boyfirend either.

I kept away from online forums until this lovely site. I also decided to meet a fellow nooler.

i only started buying hifi equipment, so that i could get the most out of my new order records.

Every year I make a point of going to the Bury beer festival because it is always held in the Derby Hall which was one of the last JD gigs and the one where Ian could barely perform and it ended in a riot.

most of my holiday plans every year revolve around where they're playing

This one is actually JD-related. I was in England and was supposed to stay long-term, but I was deciding whether to go back to the States early (long story), and "Something Must Break" was really speaking to me. I ended up going back early, and in retrospect, having realised that I'd made a huge mistake, the line "Looked in the mirror, saw I was wrong/ If I could get back to where I belong, where I belong" kept running through my head. I should have made a JD-based decision here...but I didn't.

Also, I used to have long hair and had been thinking about getting it cut short. I was watching a NO video and someone in it had short hair, and I thought, You know, a change would really be nice! It wasn't the main reason I ended up cutting it short, but it was a factor!

DITTO!!!! got my big sis the Substance back in '87 for Xmas...I was 15....I stole it a few months later and she has replaced it a few times since then

so as the baby brother she introduced me to New Order and Madonna (for good or ill-I dunno)

Moving to Manchester was largely influenced by New Order & Joy Division, sounds a bit lame but I wanted to live in a place that had such great music attached.

Not lame at all, they're a major part of why I want to move there myself. Being from the US, though, it's easier said than done, heh.
