It might be too early for most of you, but I invite you to make a top 10 of the songs on Get Ready. I've been listening to the album since the last month and here's my Top 10.

01 - Turn My Way 02 - Crystal 03 - 60 MPH 04 - Slow Jam 05 - Primitive Notion 06 - Vicious Streak 07 - Close Range 08 - Someone Like You 09 - Rock The Shack 10 - Run Wild

I know, I know, most of you don't like Slow Jam, but well.. what can I saw, I find it catchy! I don't listen much to the lyrics...

It's hard to do this top 10, because I do like all the album, Rock The Shack was something I hated at first, and now I do like it.. Run Wild, well.. not my type of song, but I can listen to it....

This is my "Get Ready" Top 10.

01 Primitive Notion 02 60 mph 03 Crystal 04 Vicious Streak 05 Turn My Way 06 Rock The Shack 07 Close Range 08 Someone Like You 09 Run Wild 10 Slow Jam

To me Primitive Notion is one of the best NewOrder songs ever. And i do like Rock the Shack, it's wicked and might be a great live track. I definitely do not like Slow Jam, to me the one and only weak moment on a fantastic album.

My opinion might change with time, but for now that's my Top 10.

Here's my take:

01 - Turn My Way 02 - Primitive Notion 03 - Close Range 04 - Crystal 05 - Someone Like You 06 - Slow Jam 07 - 60 Miles an Hour 08 - Vicious Streak 09 - Rock The Shack 10 - Run Wild

Sorry Seb - I kept hitting submit and nothing was happening - or so I thought!

1 - Primitive Notion 2 - Vicious Streak 3 - Someone Like You 4 - Close Range 5 - Crystal 6 - 60 MPH 7 - Turn My Way 8 - Rock The Shack 9 - Slow Jam 10 - Run Wild

I still do not have the official release and some mixes i have are different than the Spinner.com versions. I would rate Player In The League before Rock the Shack and Run This River Dry (any confirmation on this songs title?) would be right between SomeoneLikeYou and Close Range...it's a great track and I hope it appears on the US release. I plan on compiling my own GET READY cd when the US version comes out. I'll nix Slow Jam for sure and add the extra tracks including Behind Closed Doors and the CHEMICALS collaboration when that's available.

Slow Jam is worse than anything on Republic in my opinion. I have started to tolerate the "jesus comes..." lyrics on Run Wild but Slow Jam sounds like it's imitating a style while the others sound distinctly New Order.

Alright now that everyone (well almost everyone) has heard the album we should get some real good posts. Here is my list:

  1. Turn My way
  2. Someone Like You
  3. 60 MPH
  4. Primitive Notion
  5. Crystal
  6. Close Range
  7. Vicious Streak
  8. Run Wild
  9. Slow Jam
  10. Rock the Shack

It was also very hard for me to choose one of the other because it is such a good album but that is what I came up with!!

Alright.. it seems that it's only a french-canadian thing to like Slow Jam...! :D

In saying that, loved em all except Slow Jam-not terrible but just not as good as the others

I like Slow Jam, even more after listening to it repeatedly.... i can't understand why so many people dont rate Run Wild.... i really think its brilliant.

On listening to the album i couldn't understand why 'Rock The Shack' was getting such a hard time but we all different tastes I suppose. Just think SLow Jam doesn't really sound like a New Order song - it doesn't really seem to go anywhere.

I have to say that it was very difficult to rate this album as I feel after more and more listens it is going to be my favorite!!! I don't think that the order will remain the same even next week....

I really like Slow Jam, I don't know why it is seemed to be the worst on the album. I think the title is not appropriate for a new order song, but that is my opinion.

The song is wonderful, I love the lyrics too "I don't want the world to change, I like the way it is, just give me one more wish, I can't get enough of this" that is how I feel about NewOrder, and about life it self..I miss childhood :( My boyfriend thinks I am crazy because lately it has been NewOrder this and that...

I am VERY impressed by the new album and ALL of the songs. I want to post a reply to Liv's opinion of each song soon (when I have a bit of time)

So all in all KICK ASS NEW ORDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well.. Rock The Shack... first time I heard it, I hated it.. the repetitive "Rock the shack" was getting on my nerve...

Now, I do like it, not as much as the other, but I think that's the rockiest song from New Order ever.. only their cover of "Sister Ray" is before that!

I got my own personal "get ready" on Tuesday, now that the thing has been tested to destruction here goes my list:

  1. Crystal
  2. Vicious Streak
  3. Primitive Notion
  4. Someone like you
  5. 60 MPH
  6. Close Range
  7. Turn my Way
  8. Rock the Shack
  9. Slow Jam

Run Wild has magically (and mercifully!) been erased from my cd.

Now, has anyone else noticed how luminous and optimistic "Get Ready" sounds?

Am i on a one woman mercy mission to have Run Wild declared a classic? I think thats its a fantastic track, new, original and beautiful.....

can someone please explain why its so distasteful to other peoples ears? i seriously am in the dark here, all i hear is Barney singing with so much emotion, a lovely melody and a (not so)typical passionate NO track...

Got a feeling this could change. This is what I think after a few days of solid play:

  1. Turn My Way
  2. Vicious Streak
  3. Crystal
  4. Primitive Notion
  5. Someone Like You
  6. Close Range
  7. 60 Miles An Hour
  8. Rock The Shack
  9. Slow Jam 10.Run Wild

Note how far Run Wild is down the pecking order? And I still love it. Says something about the strength of the album.

new order are great when they sound like no one else. that unmistakable feel of a new order record. get ready has it's moments and Run Wild is not one of them. as a slow, acoustic ballad to end an album it pales in comparisson to Dream Attack. it sounds too similar to other peoples music and not uniquely New Order. i have started to tolerate the track when i imagine him directing the lyrics to his children. the "jesus comes to take your hands, i wont let go" line is ridiculous. not in the "i think you are a pig" vein, (another superior album closer), but cringe-worthy. i suppose this is a very personal song for bernard as someone suggested but it's also a little embarassing. If it was a b-side, it could have achieved the Classic status you desire. maybe when i'm nearly 50 i'll appreciate the sappy qualities of this song...until then please don't take my drugs away...

well, fuck me, that told me didnt it!

Sorry, but i still think it rocks. I'm not the only sad case here, i know im not! I dont think its "embarassing" at all, I think its touching and beautiful (as i keep saying) and i will defend this track to the hilt. Its fucking genius!

It is different for NO to do acoustic tracks, and only a few weeks back people were defending "Fine Time" satying, "Just because its different it doesnt mean its bad", the same applies here.

I don't think Barney's voice gets much better than on this track. Im my NOonline profile i say that Barney's voice conveys more emotion in 1 line that some artists wont achieve in 10 albums......this is a prime example of the passion he can convey.

The line "IF Jesus comes to take your hand, i won't let go" will always stay with me, beautiful. I think id quite like someone to play this at my funeral!

I agree completely with Liv. This track is wonderful. I think you "guys" just are afraid of it because it is a little slow. Just because Barney doesn't usually write lyrics like this doesn't make it not NewOrder. You have to understand that they are getting older and as they still have the old NewOrder in them doesn't mean they can't do something a little different.

Many bands come out with slower songs to show that they can play more than one type of song, like Metallica.

I really think that this song is going to be a classic with me and if only Liv, Blade, and I are on Run Wild's side SO BE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Run Wild is a cleverly written, well orchestrated track. The production is sublime, the strings give it depth and warmth.Hooky's bass is well up there in the mix. Personally,I wouldn't get too hung up on the lyrics of this or any track Barney's written. It is a great track.

Vicious Streak owns this one! Yet, I agree with LIV & subsequents...it is touching and will come to mean so much to any NO fan...time will tell. But, bottom line (yes, I'm staking a lot on this one so early on), Vicious moves the most at this point. I didn't expect to have such growth by New Order. Thanks!

This isnt a competition...i never suggested that RW and VS were some how in league with each other.

They are both different songs. I love both of them.

I just saying that RW is a great song, its touching and beautiful (im like a fucking parrot) and doesnt deserve the criticism its been getting here....

I know Huntsman likes this track....im waiting for his comments tomorrow.....

My appologies for jumping so fast. You are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT, it is a beautiful track and yes, where is this coming from? Song to kids, loved one, hmm?? I don't care about the "Is it a New Order song" question. Someone else said was Barney thinking this or that. Who's to say B did or did not think anything. Isn't it rude of us to assume he's the only one contributing to song lyrics. Couldn't G or Steve have written that given their open commentary about their affection for their kids. My last take is, 'what a great New Order lyric given the irony/contrast between an open commentary about religion followed up with "I'm gonna live til I die, I'm gonna live til I get high...(Puff)"

Frankly, what is up with this track.

Well, here's something that I posted on the Liv's "My humble opininion" topic...

Too soon for a full opinion on GR but I certainly have to talk about "Run Wild". Couldn't agree more with Liv on that one. He talks about Jesus ? So What ! I really don't care because the emotion of the song, the melody, the way Bernard sings it, it's really heart crushing.

Liv, yes, I think it's a wonderful song, as I've said in other threads here, and in particular a perfect way to end the album.

Joe, I didn't mean to be putting you down or anything, it's just that for me TMW is clearly the best thing on the album, and really one of the best things they've ever done, so it's hard to understand how other people who also worship NO could have such a different view.

It's an amazing track. I've been racking my brains trying to think of another New Order or New Order related song that is similar. How about 'Getting Away With It'? It has that same kind of feel to it. But I'm not sure what it is.

No, I can't really think of anything else that's similar either. But every time I listen to it I get physical chills, usually starting with "The wide expanse, The wheel of chance." And I just can't resist the combination of music and lyrics at "I drank in every bar in town."

  2. Turn My Way
  3. Primitive Notion
  4. Cystal
  5. Run Wild
  6. Vicious Streak
  7. Someone Like You
  8. 60 Miles an hour

Tough one... I think the album is superb, it just grows on me and gets better and better every day. Here goes:

  1. Turn My Way
  2. Crystal
  3. 60 mph
  4. Vicious Streak
  5. Slow Jam
  6. Primitive Notion
  7. Close Range
  8. Run Wild

1-7 are *outstanding* tracks. Run Wild is OK. Haven't heard "Rock the Shack" yet. I don't know why some think "Slow Jam" is so-so - I love it! As Seb and Nic pointed out, it seems that for some weird reason, French Canadians (like me) like it.

Of course, we can't all have the same tastes. It would be too much to ask for every fan to love every track. I hope that the album does well, and that the rest of the world awakens to this great little band.

OK Liv, you´ve won me over!

After reading yours and other "ripostes" I have spend quite a while listening to Run Wild (it´s in fact sounding right now) and I must say it´s a good song. I still think it´s the weakest song of the CD (but we are talking abiut a CD so good it hurts!) but I have started to like it.

You were right and I was not.

Noblesse Oblige!

Now, I´ve got a problem, I have spent the last week telling all my friends how good "Get ready" is (and the last 15 years telling them thet NO is better than Beatles, U2, Depeche Mode, Nirvana....) but I was pretending to be very balanced and almost impartial by pointing out how feeble "Run Wild" was, now I have started to like the song they´ll see me through.

Well, I will try to give it a shot, knowing that, 2 weeks from now, it could be a different order :

1 Primitive Notion 2 Run Wild 3 Turn My Way 4 Close Range 5 Crystal 6 60 miles an hour 7 Rock The Shack 8 Vicious Streak 9 Slow Jam 10 Someone Like You

Sorry it took me so long to get in on this...but as I said, I steadfastly refused to download any of the songs, and then WAITED seemingly forever for my copy of Get Ready to get here from the UK...but I finally got my hot little fooking hands on it...

I can't rank the songs though...I think I just absolutely adore every one of them...I was worried about Rock the Shack, after reading all the negative posts...but I thought it was quite good...

I do find myself inexplicably drawn to Vicious Streak, for some reason, when I pop the disc in, I have to head straight for track 4. And as for run wild, the only problem I have with the song is that damned harmonica...but that goes back to one idiot that played his whenever he got drunk at my local hangout, thank God I have moved to the other side of Dallas now!!!!!

I got Get Ready last week and it's hardly left my stereo since - as far as I'm concerned there's not a bad track on it. My favourites are 60 Miles An Hour (I can't help but sing along to that chorus), Someone Like You, Slow Jam (again, it's the chorus that gets me), Crystal, Primitive Notion and Run Wild - why do most of you not seem to like this one? I think it's lovely and really heart-warming. Definitely one to sunbathe to.

And just one more thought...doesn't Primitive Notion sound quite Joy Divisionesque...the beginning, especially, reminds me of Twenty Four Hours...of course...this Texas sun could just be frying my brain...although it has rained here 5 of the last 6 days...somebody upstairs must be getting me ready for London weather

To be honest I don't know why it's got such bad comments. To me it seems to have a decent tune, bass, beats decent enough lyrics and tons of energy. the sound fx thorugh the second verse do it for me esp.

I think PN is definitely 'Joy Division done by New Order'. I dunno if anyone else thinks the bass line of 'Turn my Way' is very reminiscent of Monaco's 'Shine'?

My opinion of the tracks, rated 1-10.

10 - All of them.

Liv & April I think you're right about 'Run Wild'. The lyrics may seem a bit twee to some, but I presume there was a reason for them. I know that every time I listen to the album, a different track will be my favourite. That's why I can only say that at the moment, my favourite track is 'Turn My Way'.

April - you said that your boyfriend is just hearing 'N.O. this, N.O. that...'

Train him properly!

My Girlfriend went out and bought me 2 copies of each of the remix 12" singles of Crystal. My best mate has just phoned me to say that he's got the Crystal promo CD and video for me, and my brother just got me a promo copy of 'Get Ready'.

Make sure people know you'll be nice to them forever, that liking you means liking (or putting up with) New Order and things get better and better!

Take your boyfriend to see New Order live - you'll convert him.

Liv, I'm glad to hear somebody who's not a NO fan likes TMW; I played it for two people at my job who are also non-fans and they both thought it was great.
