technique demos

Hi everyone, does anyone know where i can find the technique demos i have tried downloading off a bit torrent site,but there are no seeders,anyone help please as i am desperate cheers andrew

one of the most recent podcasts has some technique demos on it (well it definitely has Dream Attack off the top of my head)

dream attack demo? wasn't on my copy. do i need to investigate or is this a case of mistaken identity?

i thought dream attack was the first song on it.

yep on the april 1st podcast volume 13, it kicks off with a demo of dream attack

Ive managed to download the Technique demos off Livegigs site but cant get any files to play, as they are FLAC format. Ive downloaded some FLAC software but they just wont play. Is there anyone in here, who can help me out? They must sound fantastic to hear.

If you go to the forums at purelivegigs there is a bit in the FAQ section which explains how to do it - I'm at work at the mo so can't remember exactly what it's called, but you need to download something to extract the files and then they'll play in i-Tunes or Winamp or whatever - if you can't find it and noone else replies I'll have look when I get home...

I had a look in FAQ and couldnt find anything. All Ive learnt is that you have to add a tag to every file that is in FLAC format. And that you have to encode every file and then decode every file, but I couldnt manage to so this.

So Snorri, if you get the chance sometime to see what it is I need to do (and its not too complicated) I would appreciate your help. thanks.

Here's the FAQ bit... - scroll down to Compressed Audio Files... And this is what you need to download...

The actual program thingy is a bit difficult to use, but once 'unflacced' the files work fine, I think I played them on Media Player and Winamp and they're on i-Tunes now, so you'll have no problem ripping them to CD... I'm still at work, so let me know if you have problems getting the prog to work and I'll have a play about at home to see what I did to get it working... Worth all the hassle, definitely... :)

Haveing registered I tried to figure this out but still have no clue how to get this neat stuff. :(

you need something like "azureus" it will open the file you get from the site, and files will start arriving :D

WOW...this stuff is THE SHIT.

So fresh you can hear the multitracker winding up and down on some of the clips (they're quick, but you can hear it on the dream attack "monitor playback" track).

BA...you want flacs or CDDA or mp3 or what?

mp3 is fine

Thanks for the info Snorri. Ive got FLAC front end software and Ive got the songs in FLAC format. But Ive still got no idea what I have to do to connect the two together? Ive read through the FAQS and all they seem to direct me to is the page where you can download FLAC from.

I will try the WINAMP thingy tonight (at least that way I will be able to hear something!!).

Open up Flac. Drag your flac files into the box. Choose a location where to save them and hit the decode button. Go to your location and voila.

BTW in the past i have had issues with the very latest flac, both in linux and windows.... playing files would skip through like crazy and attempting to decode to wav would give loads of "sync fucked" errors (nothing upsets me more than my windows machine and linux box agreeing on errors, makes me think the sky is gonna fall in). Should this occur for anyone, fuck flac out on it's arse and download the previous version.

worth noting that both machines have bizarre sound hardware

Any idea how much the guy sold it on ebay? I remember reading his thread about selling it a few weeks ago but forgot to check the end price and what happened with the tape. Good to see it has ended up on the internet./

The version I use is 1.7.1. Never had a problem yet.

At last, I got the files to convert to WAV and can play them on pc and mp3 player!!

The problem was when I was when I was adding the FLAC files to FLAC Frontend, it was defaulting to WAV file format and I needed to change the file type to FLAC.

Its amazing to hear how the basoc demos evolved to the greatness that is Technique versions.

yes it's lovely and raw....hooky noodling over premixes and stuff like that....wonderful, don't see the point of "soundcheck recorded from bar next door" tho.

Downloading this now - estimated time 24 bleeding hours! Anyone able to email offlist and post to me on CD ;-)

Have tried downloading the torrent at night, and it told me it would take 13-14 hours still, but connected this morning, and got the remaining parts of the files in just two hours. Just listening to it all now. Very interesting hearing how the songs took shape (the demo of Dream Attack is very different to how the song ended up sounding - apart from the drum beat). Wouldn't have paid £204 for it though!

Very selfless of the guy that won the auction to master it and put it on the net!

Andy, it was a group effort to buy that tape. Some like minded souls from another site got together and chipped in about £8 each. The whole point was to get it and share it, not have it disappear into a private collection, if you catch my drift.

What an excellent idea. I guess, as it's not an "official" release with artwork, and is only on a cassette, no one person is too bothered about owning the original cassette (unless whoever does one day decides to sell it on again).

At least this way, lots of people get to hear it.
