My *humble* opinion

Right, for whats its worth..... my opinion on Get Ready (i too waited until today to listen to it!)

1. Crystal

Best version of this track ive heard, excellent, totally New Order and totally my cup of tea.

2. 60 Miles an Hour

Good track, better on the CD than the ropey live version i heard on Fuji Rock Fest at the weekend. Quite atmospeheric at times, and very very catchy.... "Ill be there for you when you want me toooooooooo"

3. Turn My Way

i don't really know much about Billy Corgan (except he was on the Simpsons once) so didnt know what to expect, but am plesantly surprised....this has some soul to it....and i still don't want to wash my car (even though i did it this morning....:()

4. Vicious Streak

One of my faves on this album, excellent. Sounds better each time i listen to it....and i also have a vicious streak so quite apt really......

5. Primative Notion

Was told by Hooky Monster that this was worth listening to....how right he was...... Brilliant track, another fave....this had me jumping around my front room early....which would have been fine but my Mother was trying to watch "Coronation Street"... :p

6. Slow Jam

Was expecting the worst, after other peoples comments, but was quite surprised, not the turkey it was made out to be...nice guitar sound to it.... not bad at all...it certainly beats arithmetic....

7. Rock the Shack

Again not as bad as i though it would be.... weakest on the album i think.....unfortunately its one of the catchiest...a bit like that old song... "I know a song that will get on your nerves, i know a song that will get on your nerves, i know a song that will get on your nerves, i know a song that will get on your nerves, i know a song etc etc etc etc"

8. Someone like you

I like this a lot. Real toe tapping stuff. one of the most New Order-y tracks on the album in my opinion. Barneys voice sounds great on this track.... and you know what, im having the time of my life too...

9. Close Range

Lovely heavy sound to this one...like the way Barney sounds here....can imagine listening to this in the car....

10. Run Wild

My fave on the album on the moment. Beautiful, fucking beautiful (perhaps im really an old romantic?!?!) I think its so good, i phoned Hooky Monster this evening (who was in the pub) so that i could play it to him, coz i knew he hadnt heard it yet. (He liked it btw) I think this a bleeding masterpiece, simple and touching, and all the making for a real classic. Desperately want to hear this one live. Has a feel of an Ian Brown track, but a zillion times better.....im going to have this track on repeat for a while methinks...."If jesus comes to take your hand, i won let go...." fuck, ive got a lump in my throat....

Well there you have it.... only my opinion, not everyone will agree, but thats what i think

Ok, I think I have a little time before school and I am listening to it now....

60 MPH: This song has wonderful Hooky bass, probably the best! I think I am going to faint :p The lyrics a good and it is wonderful LIVE!!!

Close Range: To me this sounds a little like 60 MPH at first. Good chorus and I like the lyrics. Not enough Hooky though. I love the verse with the background singers, sounds really good.

Crystal: This is just a wonderful track and a good one to be the first single. The beat is good and the bass is awesome. Sound great in my car :p I love what they did with the video and it all blends together wonderfully.

Primitive Notion: This is one of my absolute favorites. Another song with a great Hooky bass line. Powerful and danceable song. GREAT GUITAR!! I love it!!!!!!!!!!

Rock the Shack: I wasn't too fond of it at first but I have to say after numerous listens I really like it. It sounds so good because he sounds so into it when he sings it. Very good attitude!!!!!!

Run Wild: I have to agree with you Liv on this one. This truely is a good song. Maybe it is because we are women but this is a wonderful song. Great melody. Nice calm song.

Slow Jam: The beginning of the song didn't get me but when the guitar came in I was hooked!!! Also I can relate to the lyrics. Very good song. Good passion.

Someone Like You: I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!!! This is another favorite and it may have something to do with me being into D&B. This has a wonderful beat, guitar, and bass. I wish I knew how to play the guitar part (I am learning guitar). The bass sounds absolutely WONDERFUL in my car driving at night with no worries just singing at the top of my lungs.......We're having the time of our lives We're lost in a cruel paradise. Someone like you can make me feel like I used to do. Return my heart, yeah, make it feel like it does at the start....WONDERFUL!!!!! (Oh did I mention Hooky's bass..ohhhhhhhhhhhhh)

Turn My Way: This is another wonderful track in my opinion. I am not a big SP fan, but I do like Billy's voice. I like how he starts the song, but I melt when I hear Barney's voice. The lyrics are going to be a classic and I can easily idetify with them. The chorus is how I think...how I feel....

Vicious Streak: This song is wonderful too... the lyrics are great. It is a nice soothing song that will get you into the NewOrder mood.

Overall I rate this album a 10!!! I love it and can't wait for them to play the songs live....

Okay, I was holding back on this one because i really didnt know what to think when I heard Get Ready for the first time. I suppose its been so long since any original material and I always find it difficult to judge New Order. I was initially disappointed, after all eight years is a long time to wait as we all know. Having lived with it for a couple of days, and I mean lived with it, listened to it at work all day yesterday and at home on Monday, I reckon its beginning to work its magic. Somebody mentioned Brotherhood earlier on and it reminded me that I wasnt keen on that when it first came out, I find Get Ready really similar. Turn My Way is going to take a while to get into I reckon. I was listening to it on Mini Disc last night on the train on the way home. Primitive Notion kicked in and I nearly missed my stop. I think my point is made.

I only got my copy yesterday and resisted all temptation to hear tracks beforehand.Was I the only one? It's a great album,maybe one of their best.There's something different to hear on every listen.The hooks/choruses are dead catchy.I can envisage multiple single releases here.Hooky's bass is well up there in the mix.The female backing vocals are nicely understated and Billy Corgan's voice works so well on Turn My Way.Those harmonies r 2 die for. Run Wild is a beautiful track.Good to hear Barney's mouth organ thing again.Not since Low Life. I wouldn't worry too much about the "Jesus" lyrics.I just see it as metaphor for something else.Some kind of spirituality,be it religious or otherwise. I can't pick a favourite track as they're all so good,even Slow Jam and Rock the Shack .You've got to crank up the volume to appreciate their qualities,plus down a few alchoholic beverages. Life is worth living when you've got a new New Order record in your hands.

Nicolas, I really think that Run Wild was a great choice to end GR, comparable to (but more substantial than) Avalanche on Republic. I think GR reaches a high point of energy and emotion in Close Range and then decompresses, sobers up, and calms down in Run Wild. I made a comment in the lyrics thread for RW that "I swear it's getting warmer" might be ironic, a reference to approaching hell-fire unbeknownst to the singer, bot nobody responded one way or the other.

Patty baby, too many lyrics in Run Wild to say whether the Barnster is referencing his own life, or others around him. The song, for me anyway, is one of the highlights of the album with the melodies and singing standing out from many NO songs. There is finally a replacement for Every Second Counts. I actually thought Barney was saying that the weather is getting warmer as in, the weather IS getting warmer - i.e. no hidden meaning. Could also be a metaphor for everything else in his life getting better, the lyric never cried out (for me) to interpretation - in the same way he ends up saying he wants to live to get high.. I think he does. Other lyrics in this song can and will be appropriated to many NO related people and happenings.

To be true to Barney's intentions, take the song for yourself and put the lyrics to your own life... I'm sure that's what the man himself will be doing.

RUN WILD seems like a personal track for MR SUMNER: -additional production and mix BERNARD SUMNER so this is something special, maybe a hidden message?

Sonic Mike - interesting and very valid observation. Does put a new spin on things to know he added a bit of production. Still, I don't think he would want people to look deeply into his lyrics - they seem to be a mixed bag of emotions, with no real direction. Not a bad thing, just my opinion.

I did receive a strong underlying message of love, death and getting on with people. Still think the line about Gretton was truly memorable in its understated value.

MR SUMNER noticed he was a sinner all those years and now, getting older, he´s afraid he may rot in hell :D

Mr. Huntsman, I didn't mean to be saying anything about possible references to BS's own life when I said things like "sobers up"; I was just talking about the music and the effect of RW coming at the end, right after CR. A while ago people here were complaining about the arguable saccharine quality of the repeated line "Good times around the corner" and it just seemed to me that inserting "I swear it's getting warmer" with a "hidden" reference to hell-fire would give that part of the song a little more edge.

blimey, that is deep Pat - maybe a touch too deep. Who knows, that's my point anyway - your making your observation and I'm making mine. I could agree with you, but then again, I don't think he is referencing hell. I happen to think that he has kept things light lyrically to prove he IS having a good time and he IS lightening up with his views to the world.

I could go deep on this song, but I think it has been constructed with the sole purpose of sounding like a bit of light relief and optimisim.

Please, just Huntsman.

Just a quicky, for me, the song has worked on many levels - we are proving that fact by discussing it. As I said, many things to many people.

It's also quite pleasing melodically.

Is it just me or was anyone else unprepared for just how good this album is? I picked it up just hoping that they wouldn't embarass themselves - yes I should have known better!

It really is fantastic. To me this album takes the New Order sound to an entirely new level. Still very much New Order, but with real emotion and warmth, without sacrificing the classic New Order traits. Brilliant.

How good is Turn My Way? Sublime.

I was certainly at least half expecting the worst. I agree that TMW is one of the very best things they've ever done, and there's loads of other really good things as well.

I've just posted a message to Andy Swan saying more or less the same thing, for me, this album is.... dare I say it..... could possibly be....erm, the best New Order album yet. Totally immersive with tons, and tons and tons of depth.

Too soon for a full opinion on GR but I certainly have to talk about "Run Wild". Couldn't agree more with Liv on that one. He talks about Jesus ? So What ! I really don't care because the emotion of the song, the melody, the way Bernard sings it, it's really heart crushing.

Anyway, I have a few other things to say already. An good album is like a good meal. You know, there's everything in it, it's all about the balance. So I think "Rock The Shack" fits well, really entertaning. But, if there wasn't songs like "Run Wild" or "Primitive Notion", maybe I wouldn't like it. You go through so many different emotions with GR, don't you think ?

One thing's for sure, No never, never, sound out of place on GR. Never irrelevant. Always emotional, not just all loud guitars out.

My favorite tracks at this point : Run Wild, Primitive Notion & Close Range.

I understand what you mean Nicolas and it sounds logical but here is what I think. If they would have released Behind Closed Doors on the album and Run Wild on the Crystal single it would pose a different idea. Run Wild is a good track, but not the best and to put it on a single (swaping the songs that is) wouldn't have made the single as good, well in my opinion. I like the single 50% just because of BCD. I think a strong song needs to be on a single and Run Wild, being as it is good, just wouldn't make it!

what the hell is wrong with this track? i have always loved this song and why do people slag it off? i love it, it's energetic, powerful and a all-around good time! plus, there's bobby gillepsie! i finally can hear and recognize bobbby on this track. i swear, his and barney's voice can be so similar sometimes...as you can see, i'm a recent primal scream fan and i love bobby and primal scream

2. run wild

this is the most mellow song NO has ever done. it's no very NO at all...i would expect this kind of introspective and mellow stuff from those singer-songwriter types a la elliott smith...but NO never ceases to surprise. as for the religious stuff...it's unusual. i by no means believe that this is a christian song, but it's very spiritual. i think barney was being poetic and threw in the jesus thing to throw people off.

10. Run Wild - Oh yes.....and Ozzy Osbourne really DID release all those bats during the middle eight of this one mij friends...

Run Wild - more cheese than the Dairy Department at my local Quality Food Center...never gets played here

Rock the Shack - see Turn My Way insert UK for US...noisey nonsense...should have never made it past the coked up "lets do a track" phase

Slow Jam - i refuse to believe this is a NewOrder song...they are not that bad....are they?

You´ve missed "Such a good thing" that thanks to "Rocket in me knickers Mick"'s CD is fastly rising in my personal ranking of th GR sessions. It would bear remixing though.

Crystal - The track that "broke the silence" as it were. Love it.

60mph - I find myself singing it a lot, so I must like it.

Turn My Way - Best track on the album. Gorgeous.

Vicious Streak - A bit incipid, but likeable.

Primitive Notion - Second favourite for me. Very Joy Division.

Slow Jam - Hated it at first, particularly the lyrics, but it's sort of grown me. Prefer the Lamacq session version.

Rock The Shack - It's not actually that bad, again I prefer the Lamacq version, if only for the absense of Bobby Gillespie's lame vocal.

Someone Like You - Hate it. Hate the remixes even more.

Close Range - Great stuff, a close third behind PN.

Run Wild - Yes it's naff and cheesey, but I empathise completely with the sentiment of the song. That's good enough for me.

My favourite of the Get Ready era didn't make it onto the album though! Player In The League.

Crystal - a classic New Order song. Nuff said :)

60 miles an hour - used to love it, wish they would drop it from the live set though !

Turd My Way - bland US market MOR rubbish

Vicious Streak - catchy, owes a bit to older NO tracks

Primitive Notion - the best thing on the album by miles IMHO

Slow Jam - utter tripe

Rock The Shack - not as bad as some reviews would suggest, apart from the chorus. Guitar riffs are good.

Someone Like You - a bit of a grower, with some good remixes doing it justice.

Close Range - better on the Lamacq session and live than it is on record.

Run Wild - un-necessary twee drivel. Not my favourite.

What, musically you get confused or by mixing up the names of the tracks? ... either way confusing 'Jam Butties' with 'Someone Like Myself' is a terrible error.

i'm afraid i've to agree with snucker about those 3 tracks... I've only recently able to distinguished them from each other.... Somehow 'Shag The Rock' stood out from the album ( though I really fucking hates it ) because everytime I hear it, I could just see or imagine the smiling pissed Bobby there hugging the gang and rocking or staggering along to the song....
