These two appear to be the most popular 21st Century picks for NOOLers. So its a straight head to head.. Already made my feelings Crystal clear in the group stage thread, though I'm partial to Here to Stay, its gotta be Crystal for me. :thumb:

That's a tough one, Boaty :eek3:

I love Crystal. Awesome opening tune it is

But if we're talking stereo, Here to Stay does it for me :)

Because you only listen to Crystal in mono?

Crystal, for me, and despite what some folks might say, the full album version...

Happy to oblige... :thumb: Although however you listen to it, Crystal is SO much better than HTS, which is a decent enough song, but for me, I'd take Krafty or WFTSC or Turn over it any day...

Think my feelings are clear about Crystal. Love following New Order live and have so many memories wrapped up in this one delicious slab of sound. Played Here To Stay to death, what was it, four years ago, but cos I don't listen to a lot of New Order at home, haven't heard much of it since that time.

Keep in coming!

Here to Stay. A fine return to electo dance.

agreed.

i'm also a sucker for new order's enigmatic lyrics, so that probably has a lot to do with why i like it better than crystal.

Here To Stay just doesn't do it for me i'm afraid, wouldn't even make my top 5 of this century.

1 Crystal 2 Sirens 3 Turn 4 Vicious Streak 5 Who's Joe

Here to Stay is deep. It haunts me to know that it's about Ian.

Went with Here to Stay.

For some reason, just don't like Crystal as much as I do their other songs.

Here to Stay- love the energy and melody with the NO edge to it. WFTSC comes in second- building steam; Crystal is great too but it trails as third favorite for me.

as i said in some review i wrote for 'get ready'... 'crystal' was a proper come back single for a band that never really went away.

the lee coombs mix was just gold.

Personally, I've always found Here To Stay a bit underwhelming. Don't get me wrong, it's a solid enough track but I don't think it'll ever feature in any of my top 10s. The Chemical Brothers contribution (if anyone can decipher exactly what that was) is presumably masked by a predictable awe of working with their idols and consequently they just emulate their idols rather than bringing anything new to the party. If the collaboration hadn't been hyped as single in time for 24HPP would anyone really have noticed the Chemicals were on board? Doubt it!

Crystal on the other hand, is an entirely different and much more exciting animal. I didn't really like it when it first came out but I've come to worship it over time, silly "Honey" lyric and all. Almost everything on the album version is perfect from the guitars to the drums to the buildup of "a small army of Peter Hooks" as one journalist put it. The synth effects and breakbeats really nail it towards the end looping throughout the production. In many ways, it was the last truly exciting single the band put out and I'm betting would get more of a response than HTS at gigs.

Crystal gets my vote :thumb:

Like them both but Here To Stay wins by a nose.

And it took this poll to make me remember why I first fell in Love w/ the tune the first time I heard it. Ally Monaco nicely written perspective. Thanks. Hate chiming in but it's worth it here.

HTS is a corker, but Crystal has that 'special something'...

I like Here to Stay but imho it just isn't a classic that will be remembered in years to come whereas Crystal ... well Ally said it all, and much better than I could have done.

At the time Crystal came out,I remember seeing some band of young lads i'd never clocked before on one of the MTV channels, playing a song, and me not taking much notice...until this big power bass came in,and my ears really pricked up and turned to my bother and said"Fuck me thats Hooky!!!" Anyway, after much commotion and our John saying"New Order Rip off,the lad even sounds like Barney" Sure enough the credit came up..NEW ORDER-CRYSTAL. With no prior knowledge that they were back,it was a wonderful moment to know it really was them:nod:

First heard HTS on the radio at work, and got the buzz then aswell..But Crystal was a total re-awakining when I thought New Order were history, even tho I'd still always been playing their records heavily at parties round mine, and looked for them first on any and every duke box I came into contact with

Crystal- a great comeback-strong guitars, good lyrics, near solo bass for Hooky, NO playing to their strengths

just the opening drum line and then the guitar? ohhhhh yeah!!!

Here to Stay is very very good but when I heard it I thought "Haven't they done this before?"

whereas on Crystal the boys just rock out!

the video just shows the band's sense of humor....

I've picked "Crystal" and the band themselves agree this is a far better song, otherwise they would had played "Here To Stay" live at least once.

"He'll drive you away,he'll drive you insane, then he'll remove...aaalll a your pain" are quailty lyrics on Here to Stay, mind!:thumb: Still Crystal tho:nod:

C'mon folks, this is surely no contest: as good as HTS is, Crystal is one of the great NO songs, in the elite group. Disclaimer: I may be somewhat biased in that view though, because it was the first song I ever saw NO play live, in Sydney, January 2002, so it also has some emotional significance. I'll also side with SHEDi here by proclaiming an overwhelming preference for the album version, while also agreeing that WFTSC & Turn are both better than HTS.

Crystal for me:bow:

But I'd still love to hear HTS live
