Ceremony & The Ghost Of Joy Division (Uncut: July 2006)

Just to let you all know that this month's Uncut magazine has a 4-page article on "Ceremony", including the details about the song (lyrics, notes, where it was recorded, etc), the main article, an interview with Hooky, an interview with Peter Saville about the sleeve, an interview with Stephen Morris, and also an interview with Tony Wilson.

If I get some spare time between now and going to the airport tomorrow (to Athens!), then I'll try and scan it in. If not, it'll have to wait until next week (unless someone does it in the meantime)! :)

I think I understand what you mean.

It the song that spans both bands so it's unique. Am I right in thinking there are two versions of it, one recorded quite early on and another re-recorded version? If so, what are the differences between them?

It's one of the songs they weren't sure of the lyric of for a while. The story goes that they listened to the tapes they'd made of it and used a graphic equaliser to try and isolate Ian's voice to give them a better idea. There's also that demo version with Steve singing!

In NO Story, Barney says of the lyrics after using the graphic equalizer, "Perhaps I had a hand in them" or something like that.

Got the mag today. The article's pretty good, mini-interviews and pix.

Comes with a selection of crits from 1981 including ZigZag's "a slow, disappointing miasma....this is, em...awful".

By a strange coincidence, p14 has a short item about Joe Meek whose name came up in the Hannett overproduction thread.

It's not really very interesting, I'm afraid. Everyone regurgitates stuff we've heard a million times before (singing competition; carrying on after Ian; HAnnett was a barmpot etc.) and everyone likes the tune cos, hey, it's a bit New Order and a bit Joy Division.

July, so it probably hasn't reached France yet? The June issue is the one which features The Stone Roses interview - it's not in that one.

Been exceedingly busy with work at the moment - finishing off multiple documents, so haven't had a chance to scan the article in yet... Not sure when I'm going to have a chance to do this yet...?

interesting article,would have been nice to have seen a bit of info regarding in a lonely place seeing as it was a jd song also and fits the bridging bill from jd to new order as did ceremony. both tracks still sound good to my ears.

I just picekd that mag up here, and also the q with the WIM feature, so aussie noolers, those mags are now out there. Both are the july editions.
