That's exactly who I was going to say! The singer sounds like Barney, the bass player plays like Hooky, and they were comprised of three guys and a girl.
Yeah, I actually bought the Kon Kan CD just for that song. There's maybe one other good song, then the rst of it is weak. The thought had never occured to me that it sounds like NO. Oh well. Easy to sound like NO for one song, much tougher to keep it up for a whole album.
Love that Kon-Kan tune! 
To reiterate a recent thread from BCD - the (now defunct) Field Mice had their NO-moments, continued by subsequent incarnations Northern Picture Library and Trembling Blue Stars...

There is a song on that Kon Kan album called "Bite The Bullet" which is a jazzy cover version of a high-energy dance track that sounds a lot like "The Perfect Kiss". The original group was called They Never Sleep and they only did a couple of singles.

Its a parady of barneys spoken vocals. And its very BLT v Face Up. Luv it!
PS Did Kon Kan have a glittering critically musical career spanning 4 decades? No! One's an estate agent and the other...hang on.......how many were in KonKan....actually....who cares!

Peter Schilling's "The Different Story" from 1989 is the same synth patches, drum kit, and chord structure as "True Faith".
I hate that Kon Kan record, it's shite. Any bands that consciously try to sound like New Order sound shite. Fact.

Great to be back after a few months away. I have this tune on 12" if anybody would like to offer me loads of dosh for it!
There was a tune played to death (but not enough as it turns out) last year on the music channels that contained guitars that reminded me of early NO. The video consisted of a well-built (dare I say 'chubby' Chris Morles-esque?) guy cleverly walking/running thru various scenes; ie; climbimng thru pictures, walking thru doors, etc. At the time I thought it was Bloc Party's "Two More Years" but it wasn't, and by the time I realised it wasn't I haven't seen the video since, although the song has been used on TV. Can anybody help me out please?

I think the vocals were done by Kevin Wynne, who was from a city called Hamilton, about 15 minutes away from where I am over here in Canada. A friend of mine, Neil, and I, were vendors at a record show in Hamilton around 1991. Kevin was at the show - I traded a duplicate that I had of “Sandy Shaw - Hand in Glove" for a bunch of Jam 7's that he had. I think I sold him a copy of “The Normal - Warm Leatherette” too. Nice enough guy, I heard he went into music publishing. I think that the other fellow that made up Kon Kan, Barry Harris, went on to eventually work on some stuff for Madonna.
I remember liking them alright at the time - not sure it's aged too well though . . . ?
I can't believe that a band that was essentially a blip in Canadian music raised anyone's eyebrows outside of Canada. For those into cheesy music trivia, the name a play on what's called Canadian Content (Can Con for short) that is a law requiring radio stations play a minimum of 30% Canadian music. It is enforced by the Canadian Radio and Telecommunications Communists...I mean Corporation. They are the reason Canada keeps torturing the world with Brian Adams, Celine Dion and so on. The good Canadian acts never get airtime. Radio sucks here.
As for bands that sound like NO, can't think of any. Does Joy Division count? One of my favourites now is Interpol, lead singer has a little Ian in him I think.

given the number of recent quality canadian bands that can't be a problem though? surely BSS, the arcade fire, metric, stars etc get loads of airplay?
Antarctica, they only released one full length LP, 8103, back in 1999. The first track could almost be New Order due to the electronics and drumming alone, but minus Barney and Hooky 
The rest of the album has droning prog-rockish guitar numbers, but there are some crackers!
Oi, and the synth player/programmer is a female! 
There's a new band from Manchester called "The Whip" Clint Boon plug's them a bit on his show on XFM. Not sure if they're signed up yet, but they sound more like early New Order than New Order did.

Aren't they formed from the ashes of another (reasonably memorable) band? I forget who.
I know fuck all about them other than what I mentioned. I'm going to try and find a bit out about them.

Never realy heard kasabian, so couldn't comment on that, we just do what comes naturaly, it almost always involves a hi bass line (or 2) due to being a NO fan for 20 odd years, (christ I feel old now!)
I'm not sure about this MySpce carry on. I'm a bit backward with technology. They still point into the sky, shout "devilbird" and run terrified for cover when planes fly past where I come from.

I didn't know that about Kon Kan. ACtually, I assumed they were British. I actually have one of their CD's. :bag:

The Cure's In Between Days and Depeche Mode's Enjoy The Silence are the most New Orderish tunes i've heard by other artists.

Yes, saw one of their vids just last week (they're putting together a collage or something) and thought the song was superb. Made a mental note to hunt down some of their stuff.

They're formed from the remnants of Nylon Pylon,an 'almost-but-not-quite' electro-rock thingy from Mancunian parts.There is a bit of similarity,more so than with Hot Chip,can't see that at all,as much as I've tried & read that they're supposed to 
I was listening to Chemical Sweet Girl/Me and Madonna by Black Strobe ("Europe's top electro-house group", apparently) this morning and, while they don't sound much like New Order at all, the second track has a blatant Hooky rip-off bassline running through it. Even more so that the one on Minimal by Pet Shop Boys.
