Technique, the best NO Album ???

I´m NO fan since 1987. Her is my personal NO Album Hitlist (and some frustation):

1. Technique
2. Substance 1987
3. Low Life
4. Brotherhood
5. Power, Corruption and Lies
6. Movement
7. Republic (sorry,but Republic is bullshit. I can´t believe that NO is so sinking down in a musical way. How could they do that? David Hasselhoff in a Music Video :-(((

I know that my thread sounds very bad to other NO fans. But i am so frustrated about this.

Marksman, its abit fucking tricky trying to work out what your banging on about. Regret was released about 10 years ago and the video was a one-off piss take. They were out in LA having a laugh, which went contrary to what New Order normally do... which is moan and sing sad songs. The beach deal was another daft New Order stunt. Forget about it.

As for MY opinion, here we go:

1 - Low Life... for me it's the absolute best New Order album. I NEVER got tired of it and every track is good. The only down side is the fact that The Perfect Kiss was edited.

2 - Technique. 3 - Brotherhood. 4 - Republic. 5 - Power, Corruption and Lies 6 - Movement

Substance is not an album, but a singles compilation. And if I could slip in Joy Division albums, I would slip Closer right between Technique and Brotherhood, and Unknown Pleasures as the last one (never liked this one besides New Dawn Fades and She's Lost Control).

I'm not putting Get Ready in there because it's too new to judge.

1.Unknown Pleasures 2.Closer 3.Low Life 4.Technique 5.Brotherhood & PCL 7.Movement 8.Republic

I read that Stephen Hague, who produced Republic, had to piece the album together because the group couldn't stand to be in the same room,which may explain some of Republic's shortcomings. Personally, I think the album suffers from poor production (where's Hooky's bass?) and would have been better had the group done it themselves like they used to (Low Life, PCL)

Well, I'll give it a try...

Just have to say that "Brotherhood" is my favorite because it is the 1st NO album I bought when it came out... Having heard the BLT 12" and loved it to death...

Although, I guess, the best one, objectively, would have to be Technique or Low Life...

Too soon to say where I'd put Get Ready

Ok I have to differ here... I love Republic, I think it is one of the best albums they put out. Here is my list of favorite albums:

3. PC&L
4. Technique
5. Brotherhood
6. Movement

I am really into Electronic too so maybe that is why I loke Republic so much. I haven't gotten a chance to experience too much Joy Division and I know when I do my order may change completely.

At the first time i heared crystal (on MTV) my personal hell come to an end...

1 - Low-life (would be perfect if Perfect Kiss were not edited) 2 - Technique 3 - Substance (OK, I know it's not really an album) 4 - Republic (sometimes I think it is their worst album because it lacks of spontaneity and because of Stephen fucking Hague, the man who makes NO sound like the PSB, but I like to play it in my car. Actually, it must be the album I listen the most often to) 5 - PCL & Brotherhood (although both contain very good tracks: Paradise, for instance) 6 - Movement

I became a Joy Division fan later. I do like their first two albums, but I hate Still.

I'm an Electronic fan as well (especially the first and the third albums). I don't like TOT that much, I hate Revenge ("I'm Hooky and I wanna play the fucking bass") and I find that Monaco is flat.

NOT TRUE!

It was Stephen Hague's who wanted it to be this way.. and that contributed to the deterioration of the relations within the band.

That's what I read in this month's issue of The Face. Anyone else curious as to why the group doesn't produce their own work anymore?

Yes Get Ready is that good! I never got into Republic (Hague's production mainly). A great comeback!

Stephen Hague is a genius. Just look at the sound of each and every song. Every song sounds different from the others and yet there's a certain atmosphere throughout the record. And the rhythm tracks are amazing, too. Just listen to SPOOKY or CHEMICAL. And the love for details! Every time you listen to REPUBLIC you discover something new. On GR you get none of this. Most songs are much of a muchness.
REPUBLIC is NO's most mature album from the songwriting aspect. GR sounds more or less like a run-of-the-mill rock album. Of course it's not a bad album but REPUBLIC wins hands down. Feel free to kick my butt for my insolence! :D

no, that's not true, "geezer". i love rock: nin, smashing pumpkins, marilyn manson, weezer, suede, manics etc. but GR just doesn't work as a rock album. to me it seems like a step backwards and forward compared to REPUBLIC. The latter featured some "regret" and "everyone everywhere" that can be labelled as rock, too. but at the same time REPUBLIC featured several other styles as well. that's how modern music should sound like. GR sounds boring. and ironically enough, they decided to release the best song of all, namely "behind closed doors", as a b-side. amazing how NO managed to put out such an excellent album as REPUBLIC despite their broils and financial straits.

Yes, I am a very big Pet Shop Boys fan. I saw them a couple of years ago on their Nightlife tour and they put on a great show. I am more into their earlier stuff though. I was a child of the 80s and music was big in my family and that is why I heard all of this music. I can't say I am too much into the rock played on the radio today, I have to admit that the only "new" rock CD that I own is Linkin Park.

I think though that Republic is a wonderful album but so is Get Ready. You just have to listen to it for a couple of months and it will be your favorite. I know that the songs I saw live from the new album sounded just as good with the old ones. A true sign that in 2 years you will feel about Get Ready as you do Republic. Give it more of a chance my friend it will grow on you fast :)

I do have to say that I am not really into dance music, a little electronica here and there but that techno they play at raves gives me a bit of a headache :p

Poor Tas - dangerous place to put TT ahead of GR. I'd like to defend Tas, but, instead, lets forge an army and declare war on the poor bastard. We shall attack at dawn and blow Tas to smithereens with blasts to his stern and rectum.

In certain parts of China, a man can have his hand chopped off for stealing small bags of rice and crisps, in orderline.com, the mere mention of Electronic can provoke hatred and violence - the horrible fusion of somebody (Tas) putting Electronic being better than New Order is nothing short of public blasphemy, and can result in death by pulling tongue out through arse syndrome.

I'd like to put that into practice.

Im a big fan of Brotherhood, its an album that sadly often gets overlooked but its so sublime and effortless that it certainly deserves a mention, "as it is when it was" and "all day long" still is and always will be two of NO's most moving songs for me (ahh teenage angst and heartbreak - sound familar..!!) , and tracks like paradise and weirdo still sound so clean & refreshing!

I must also say that im pleased they have retained there unique essence with "Get Ready"

That's the only thing about it, I can't find anyone to doubt it, that's the only thing about it I can't find anyone to do you thing your talking to, when I look at Geoff I know I'm happy, all Geoff says and does, makes me laugh out loud and make me picky my own nostrils etc. etc.

In 87 i got Substance & that was the first time i bought into the NO experiance - after that it was a case of just picking up ther back catalogue and basically not listening to anything else for about the next 6 years!! :)

I think at that time Substance pulled a lot of NO fans on to that slippery slope of NewOrder obession to be honest with you, i was 14 when it came out and up till then had though most music i'd heard was a load of bollox!!!
