I am just curious as to how Barney usually is with his fans? How many of you have met him? What's he like in general?

Also the rest of the band.

Thanks!

Never move too quickly and be sure to bring a cattle prod.. oh wait..

Um, rather normal, down to earth, average? Hooky's liberal with the hugs and good for a chat and Bernard was friendly when I met him. S&G I assume are quite the same.

Bernard was fucking drunk as hell the one time I met him!

I had read on the old NO google forum that sometimes he can be standoffish and not so nice, but he seems like such a nice guy and an actually somewhat gentle demeanor. Now, maybe he was drunk or it was in the early days.

He actually seems like a really funny guy, too. But that's my opinion.

The Corby Order got to meet Barney at the Aftershow in Manchester last November, he was on his way out but took the time for a few pictures and was happy enough when I said the show was better than the gig the previous week in Brixton. He was sound as fuck.

Barney's generally quite measured and seems to ponder over what he has to say. And actually looks like he's listening to what you have to say (if that makes sense?).

I once read in an interview with Hooky:bow: from the very early '90's when he was gigging with Revenge in Leeds,& he was being asked about the 'pillaging Viking bass God/hardman putdown king' image that had built up around him & said that he was just living upto an image that the music press in particular had made for him.As he was being asked this,a young lad was hovering nervously nearby, trying to pluck up the courage to ask said Viking bass God for his autograph. When the lad approached,Hooky said to the interviewer to watch this,& turned to the lad & growled 'FUCK OFF',completely destroying the young lad! Oh,how we laughed......no,we were appalled! He did, however, make it up to the lad afterwards.Awwww! :thumb:

Crossing himself, drinking communion wine and saying Hail Mary's, mostly.

His movement is based on vision, so if you stay perfectly still, he can't see you.

couple of friends of mine met barney and hooky at the KROQ radio station out here in LA(93). They said barney was pretty shy, and i believe he wasnt feeling well, well actually he threw up in the kroq station while it was off the air waves. to my recollection I think Kroq actually auctioned the cup that he threw up on. i always wonder who actually won that cup. anyways he and hooky signed some autographs, and according to my friends they said he was very polite. my friend told me that he and hooky started laughing when my friend asked barney about the mistake of the song titles in the disc 2 of the substance album. Barneys replied was, "its for us to know and for the fans to wonder". what a cunt!!!

BERNARD SUMNER FORCED TO POO IN PUBLIC LIFT! well i knew a story . that was very funny, when it was told. TRUE STORY-i kid you not. on the radio an english guy was talking about how new order was his no.1 band of all time. he worked in some kind of building he was where the band were, (well bernard i believe). in some kind of building where he worked, the power went off for a while and some one was stuck in the lift, in this place. well it tured out to be bernard himself, bernard came out and all was well. but because he was in there so long bernard had to do a shit- in the corner of the lift, so this guy who just looooved new order had to clean up poos in the lift. it was allocated to him to clean it up.

THIS IS A TRUE STORY- I KID YOU NOT

he was saying "i had to clean up bernards shit in the ellevator, my number one band of all time ,and i had to clean up his turd" apparently bernard just left and didnt say anything, the guy sounded a little pissed off by that, he just walked out of the lift and acted normal. ha ha, man if i was famous like that i wouldnt bother to clean up my big smelly shit either

So, the advice is: never get into an elevator with Barney and never offer him a lift! (boom boom)

ive heard a lot of negative stuff that barney could be an asshole to some people or mean. maybe he was just drunk?

id like to hope that hes not really like that normally.

I guess it depends on his mood he can be nice or not like everybody else...

I met him in Peruvia, a nightclub in Manchester about 10 years ago. I never once saw him in the Hacienda. He was really nice and bought me and my friend a drink. Although he did look a little freaked out when i told him i'd named my parrot after him!

Course we have, we just don't feel a need to write about it! Steve doesn't post on here about having met Rocket Mick, and Hooky doesn't write about how Ness smiled at him at a gig, so why the fook should we write about having met them? It is a semi-regular occurrence for some these days, after all!

i was just asking what they were like. nothing at all to get upset about. i was just innocently wondering. i'm kind of new here and just wanted to know what they were like.

sorry.

I know, sorry. Bastard door was locked at my anger management class. We're usually too pissed to remember what they are like, to be honest!

Lovely bloke, very down-to-earth. I met him between songs when he and Jonn Marr were doing For You on TFI Friday back in 96. He was in the bar with the public but no-one was making a point of asking him for an autograph or owt.

I mustered my courage and wandered over to say hi. We chatted for a while about this and that and I asked him if Electronic would play any more live dates as I'd seen them live at Wembley in 91. He said it was down to Johnny's commitments but that he'd like to.

I then asked him the $64,000 question: would the Order ever reform and work again. He genuinely didn't know and said that he was still in touch with Hooky, Steve and Gillian. I suppose we chatted for about five minutes and then he shook my hand: I have shaken the very hand that has played so many golden riffs.

I left Riverside studios in Hammersmith on a cloud...

I had the pleasure of meeting Barney outside Baby Gap in the Trafford Centre a few years back, shortly after their reunion gig at the MEN. I congratulated him on a great gig and told him of my hope that it wouldn't be too long before they had a new album out.

He was very courteous, friendly and genuinely interested in what I had to say. He told me that the band were going back in studio very shortly and that a new album would be out 'soon' (Well, it was about 2 years later when Get Ready came out).

We chatted for about five minutes but not too long because I didn't want to come across as a star struck, over eager fan. As it happened he was on his way into Baby Gap as I was, and quite unintentionally our paths crossed about three times. My then girlfriend didn't have a clue who he was!

What struck me most about him was how gentle his handshake was. I think I crushed his knuckles!

The only other occasion I have been lucky enough to meet him was whilst queuing up outside the Hac many years ago, when he politely excused himself as he tried to get through the crowd.

The other thing that struck me was how on both occasions the people in the vicinity didn't appear to realise exactly who he was.

In my opinion the guy's a god - a very polite, genuine god.

I couldve met, or at least confronted him once, 20 years ago, but I was too chicken. Not sure I regret it though. Imagine if he'd said, something along the lines of - you've caught me at a bad time, so why don't you piss off? :uhoh: *cringe*

Oh no wait... maybe it was you? :brow:
