Just saw the latest Mars commercial on Dutch tv and it features the original Blue Monday, mostly the intro and the first line How does it feel :thumb:

Damnit.. why don't we ever get these kinda commercials over here in the US.

that ad has been running here in new zealand for a couple of months. although it's for a crappy chocolate bar the ad itself is quite cool - better than when they used primitive notion for a ford falcon ad...

You're making me even more sad. :(

All I get to hear here is that annoying Kelly Clarkson song on that car commercial, or whatever it is. :(

:confused2: Almonds? Our Mars Bars consist of Nougat, Chocolate and Caramel? Do you mean Snickers? Which are really just a Mars Bar with nuts.

Mars Bars are NOTHING like Snickers, nuts or no nuts.

What a stupid thing to say: children could be reading. You should be banned :nono:

Both have chocolate on the outside and there's some runny caramel in them, but the similarity ends there.

The nougat in Mars bars is chocolate flavoured and much softer in the Mars Bar - I suspect owing to the introduction of a little air. This, along with the nuts, makes the Marathon a much firmer and chewier snack.

Will you lot shut up about chocolate? I'm fookin' starving!

I just had to go to the machine downstairs for a Mars bar!

EDIT: It was Jemma's fault.

:confused2: Our Mars bar has chocolate, nougat, caramel, and almonds. Snickers has the same, except peanuts in place of almonds.

Snicker & Mars have essentially the same ingredient (with almonds v peanuts) but in very different ratios. Mars bars here are mostly nougat with a little caramel, while Snickers bars have more caramel than nogat, and Snickers bars have a lot more nuts than Mars bars (no doubt because peanuts are a lot cheaper than almonds!). I agree with you that Snickers is a firmer & chewier snack than Mars. Personally I like Snickers a lot better, actually. Whew, this is the most serious discussion I've ever had about candy bars! By the way, you mention Marathon. Is that a typo or a different candy bar? We do have Marathon bars here, but they're billed as "energy bars" rather than candy bars, and go under the Snickers name.

Marathon changed it's name to Snickers in the 1980s. Old skool bores like me still call them Marathons.

The US and UK versions of both snacks are quite different, I think.

There are no nuts at all in a UK Mars anyway.

A UK Mars is virtually liquid at body temperaure, wheras a Marathon retains it's shape quite well.

The old advertising slogan used to me "Marathon satisfies you". That's why I recomend them for Biggy's cold cure.

"A Mars a day", on the other hand, "helps you work, rest and play" and is no good for anything other than eating.

No almonds in a Mars bar?? Now I pity you Brits. :nonono: In terms of exterior chocolate coating, Mars and Snickers are the same here. Both retain their shape equally well here. Inside, Snickers is more the soft caramel & peanut treat, and a Mars bar is more the airy nougat with a bit of caramel & almonds thrown in treat. We had the same slogans here, though it was "Snickers really satisfies" I think. I can see I'm in for some serious culture shock if I ever visit the UK! :eek3: :jawdrop:

The UK has TWO snickers bars. The regular brown wrapper bar with peanuts (the old marathon),and the one with almonds in (beige wrapper). Really, you wanna get down the sweet shop more often!

I do get to the sweet shop plenty! The American sweet shop, where Snickers has peanuts and Mars bars has almonds! Almonds in a Snickers bar, why, if that isn't the stupidest thing I've ever heard...

It was playing on TV and in movie theatres here in Canada about a half-year ago.

we have both Mars and Snickers in NZ but we have a third option - the kiwi Mars bar, it's called a Moro and it is infinitely superior to the blandery of the Mars bar. We have also been known to deep fry Moros (this is where I would use the vomiticon - if such a thing existed)
