Very weird goings on in CBC radio (Canadian equivalent to the BBC) over the last few days. At 3:00 yesterday afternoon I turned on my car radio and low and behold I was greeted by the unmistakable tones of the last 2 minutes of Ceremony (7" version just to add to strangeness). Now to add some context, this was in the middle of a really bland afternoon show that's on around 3:00 - kind of like Richard & Judy except on the radio and without the controversial subjects - really, really dull stuff. I have no idea why they would play Ceremony and they didn't reference it at all when it finished.

Fast forward to this morning and my radio alarm kicks me awake with yet more Ceremony! One again, bang in the middle of the song and once again bang in the middle of a really bland breakfast show that usually deals with housewives talking about how to make jam. The host didn't reference the song either.

WTF is going on???????????

You're sure it's not ads for Marie-Antoinette on the radio?

Didn't hear any, but it would be logical.

No, it's not ads - it's actually being played as part of the shows. The bland afternoon show is called Freestyle and here's the play-log from Wed 18th October:

FREESTYLE PART TWO

CEREMONY Duration: 00:04:21 Album: SUBSTANCE/NEW ORDER Label: FACTORY, 832 616-2 Persons/Roles: CURTIS, IAN - COMPOSER HOOK, PETER - COMPOSER MORRIS, STEPHEN - COMPOSER SUMNER, BERNARD - COMPOSER NEW ORDER - POP GROUP

I agree, that is really weird.

If you're familiar with CBC Radio you'd realize why it's strange. CBC Radio is without doubt the most bland, boring radio station on Earth - awful.

It is nothing like BBC, you know, actually being of service to the public by playing stuff people want to hear.

Maybe the song is included in some kind of Public Service Anouncement or ad for one of their radio programs - that's the only way I can make sense of it as CBC doesn't run ads.
