It was quicker than Canada the last time around, so no more than 3 days.

Quite simple, the split is my fault, DVD shortage... Mike will probably send the other batch tomorrow and I'll send the DVD myself instead to those who didn't get it.

I had a week off where I couldn't produce ;)

Baltimore, Maryland, USA

All packages were sent as of today, except for the bands, those will be shipped this week-end (because they have multiple copies obviously)

Mine arrived yesterday.

I'm going to go on record and say that Bentley's ICB just may be the best cover of any song - ever. (beating out my previous top spot of Self's 'What a Fool Believes' on toy instruments). It manages to best the orignal many times over, which is a rare thing.

Unbelievable. Amazing job, Chris.

Received mine yesterday, two cd's with a note that the dvd will follow. Now you'll have two lots of postage, not very cost effective :). Anyway, no review yet because I haven't listened to any of it. Looks good though, and Shug's lines notes are entertaining, as usual :thumb:

Mine came Saturday. After 3 listens my stand out track is Lonesome Tonight. I also liked The Village and ICB. I was a little disappointed with some of the other tracks though. I know its only personal opinion but the vocals sounded a little low in the mix.

Thanks very much for mine - excellent CD and extras. Awesome ( as our US friends would say )quality and production - many thanks for eveyone's hard work and dedication into producing this superb music - lovely jubbly.

I only voted for about 3 because of time constraints (lame I know). The Kremlin track grabbed me straight away.

Its great that fans can put together a product of such quality. The artwork is very impressive and footnote summed up NO admirably. I congratulate everyone who put so much hard work into this wonderful project.

Sorry if I sounded picky. But im a Virgo and you know how fussy we can be. Ill bite my lip next time.:\ohwell:

Everybody is entitled to their opinion!

We know the product won't pleased everybody, but we are also very proud of the bonus CD and I hope people will enjoy it.

I'm craving for reviews

Received mine today. Cracking artwork by the way. I'll give it a few listens and review accordingly although ICB is excellent by Mr Bentley.

Playing it now...:music:

Love the artwork Nic - the image and the packaging fit together well. :thumb:

Standout tracks for me are Dream Attack (O'ou), ICB (C Bentley) and Lonesome Tonight (Kremlin).

Edit: And Turn (Glasnost) and Doubts Even Here (Phantom West)...etc, etc..!

Kudos to Mr Bentley for the mastering job and to everyone involved in the competition. For an item as good as this to be produced shows what a fantastic community we have here on nool.

Looking forward to listening to the bonus CD later. Well done to all.

Not really a review but I must say that the quality is very good especially also the bonus CD. It has it's own atmosphere it seems.

My favourites (doesn't mean I don't like the rest though) on first listen are

Bonus:

  • Glasnost - False
  • Labster - Ki Omos Emai Edo
  • C.Bentley/kREMLIN - Tell Me Again
  • O'ou - What can I say?
  • Sunrise Before Dawn - Commonwealth (track 18)

  • The Village
  • Lonesome Tonight
  • Behind Closed Doors
  • ICB
  • Dream Attack
  • Doubts Even Here

Ok, since nobody is saying it....

  • The artwork is special, you can actually chose your favorite. Since nobody talked about it, well... here you go ;)

  • The "hidden" track on the bonus CD is a remix of Commonwealth done by the Hillberg brothers (O'ou, DJ Ionic and Atomic Boy) who won the remix competition. It was not written on the CD to double credit Sunrise Before Dawn. Due to the lack of fund, the CD has no sleeve, so credits will be on a special website very soon.

Had noticed the artwork and also noticed I liked the default (your artwork) more than when the competition was going on. Maybe there is a difference between a design on a web page and the real thing.

The remix of Commonwealth sounds slightly better to me than the original. It's snappier, brighter (i'm not a musician so can't give any professional terminology for this) to listen too.

Recieved it today, along with the bonus CD and DVD. Love the album to bits! Absolute standout tracks, in my opinion, would have to be: ICB, Behind Closed Doors, No Love Lost, Mr. Disco and 1963; but the whole album is excellent as a whole too. Even The Village, which I still can't always be in the mood for, has grown on me.

Can't wait for Community III! ;)

but fuck me...I quite liked the Glasnost original (False)...Pottsy's Warm and Happy Soul...

but the best of the bunch, for me, is Flight's Strange Little Girl...didn't get to catch their performance at Blue Saturday, but I did catch their soundcheck...and my roomie, Marcus, likes Strange Little Girl as well...top effort lads!!! and here's to seeing you guys perform at some point in the future!!!

Yup, Flight is the "backup band" we got on the CD due to Serotonin dropping out at the last minute, I insisted for that track... too bad they didn't play it on NOOL day, but it's a very good song.

Quality band.

Got mine today. I have not had a chance to listen to it yet. I will need to put it on my Ipod, as I never seem to have time to listen to cd's anymore.

The cover looks much better in person. I never new there was color in it. I thought it was B&W. Looks good.

I did look at the dvd. Nice to see the videos. The puppit video is my favorite.

I was a little disappointed that the Noolday party was not on there. I was looking forward to seeing more of the action.

On a PC. Windows and Explorer show that theres 17 tracks on there but I thought the video to The Village might show as track 18. As a non-pc person when you say autostart do you mean right click on the start icon? Do I need to have specific software in order to see the video?

You need Flash, which you should already have. on the PC, load Windows Explorer, right click on the CD and you should see "Execute"... pick that.

Auto-Start meant it should start when you insert the CD automatically.

For anyone that uses macs or anything other than windows, there is an html file you can double click which will load the video.

There was a mac projector, but that got corrupted in the mastering process

Quick reminder.

Everything turned out really well. The sound was crystal clear and the sleeve is as pro as it goes. Hell now I even like hearing some songs that I wasn't so sure about when we were voting thanks to the production work.

Hey Spotnick... "SERONTONIN" ? Don't worry it's spelled correctly on the inside sleeve.

Other than that I'm really happy to be on such a quality compilation with some really cool sounding artists.

Will this be available on Amazon or iTunes?

Here's my take on the albums.

Community II

Top track for me is Glasnost's Turn - a moody campfire piece which conjures up a tender beauty missing from New Order's blueprint.

Other standouts for me include Pottsy's accomplished and joyful take on The Village, Tin God's YSF which maintains the celebratory start to the album, and C Bentley's ICB - an electro-pop masterpiece forged from a very forgettable original. I also liked the dirty swing of 3V's Blue Monday, Labster's cinematic Behind Closed Doors and Almanso's brassy New Dawn Fades. O'ou and DJ Ionic close things up nicely by teasing out poppier sides to Dream Attack and The Village.

les artistes de la communaute

Flight's Strange Little Girl is dream-pop at it's best - a very addictive track, and The Rain Expedition by Phantom West is an uncategorisable but very emotive piece. Both tracks struck me right between the eyes.

I also liked Glasnost's False (a great intro), Popvert's Gray (The Cardigans when they were good) 3V's Lonely Gull (I could picture this soundtracking an Indie film), Pottsy's track (deliciously Beatles-y), Manumatic's Connectivity (charismatic synth-pop), O'ou with What Can I say? (obvious mass-market appeal), Tin God's 901112 (a lovely, uplifting dance ditty) and the chilled rock of Tomihira's World Class (Rufus Wainwright if he'd ben signed to Sarah Records).

Overall

Community II is a great celebration of the joy, anger, energy and melancholy that make New Order's glacial "otherness" so appealing. The compilation shows the potential of the artists involved, I look forward to hearing more material from everyone in future.

I've no hesitation in recommending these albums to anyone considering making a purchase - there's something for everyone.

Cheers, Andy (kREMLIN)

Wow - Andy, you're list for the compilation is the exact one I was about to post. (Obviously minus my own and with yours).

You and Bentley are my heroes after this disc and C2. You both provided covers that actually best the originals, which is rare. Your track together is top notch, and 'Deer And The Driver' is amazing. Being sandwiched between that and 'What Can I Say?' can only help my property value on the disc.

Wen told me that Bentley is responsible for the arrangement of the tracks - thanks, Chris!

manumatic wrote:

Forgive me if I got you wrong, it's Almanso that did the track order (explains the #1 track, isn't it? )

Bentley did the mastering of the whole thing, though he didn't spend as much time as on C2 on that cd... and we were seriously running out of time.

He did mix the tracks of Tell Me Again if that is what you meant, because that's what Wen meant... but my french side though you were asking for the track listing ;) I'm probably wrong.

my fault , i got it mixed up, i thought it was Chris who did the track order.

Thanks. Hopefully they will be available for release next year.

Do you know if there any plans to release any of the songs from Community 2? Turn would be an obvious one (just to stick 2 fingers up at Warner Bros). But I guess its all a question of financing, copyright, etc.

May I just add thats its my album of the year. ABsolutely brilliant.

Problem is licensing... releasing a cover costs a lot of money and eat up most of the profit you can do out of it.

Thank god for that though, it presever the original artists right. Just imagine how much money Dolly Parton did with Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You.

That's why we could afford the 2nd cd, we had no licensing to pay for that one.

I've been working on a 4 or 5 song ep that might be finished up by spring but it's mainly synthy dance music with no vocals since I can't write lyrics and really hate to sing. Also, I've got an abandoned cover of Everything's Gone Green that may be offered as a free download to anyone interested... if I can ever get inspired finish it up since it sounded pretty rough. Other than that I'll be back to recording local demos and working as producer with a few artists. It's always easier for me to be creative with ohter poeple's hard work. ;)

Again, thanks to everyone for the kind words on my cover! I'd also like to express my gratitude to Andy(kREMLIN) who took some simple synth melodies and drums I have been working on and turned around and handed me the song "Tell Me Again" in return.

Got my copy on Friday and it (and the Artistes de La Communaute disc) has been on pretty much constant rotation ever since... Stand out tracks pretty much as per when I voted: kREMLIN's Lonesome Tonight, Almanso's New Dawn Fades and Glasnost's Turn being my top three, but the whole thing works beautifully as a compilation, and really does justice to NO/JD's output, as well as the talent and ideas of all those involved... A more in depth review will no doubt follow, as well as some thoughts on the bonus disc (which I've only listened to in the car, so I couldn't tell you who each track was by, but there are definitely a few that will end up on Snorri playlists over the next few months!)... Once again, a massive thanks to everyone who contributed - it's a stunning effort in evry respect!

The obvious one would have been The Village, as we already have remixes and videos for it ;)

But I don't think it's a good idea to sell that, our last effort, the CommunityEP, still has many copies available... and we did only 500 of it, and the song was done to promote the album itself!

I'd rather release Community 2.5 with the next songs in line... many top tracks there!
