It all began so well... I had a lovely new stereo seperates system costing no less that £600 of my hard earned shelf stacking pounds :D . New order had never sounded so good, it was like Hooky was in the room with me (which for a while he was, remember when i bought him for £17.29?) ;).

Then one day, the volume control on the beautiful Marantz PM4000 amp began to emit strange crackling noises . Time for that free repair under guarantee i thought. Off my amp went to richer sounds (the company i bought it from) for a speedy repair. It never returned :nonono:.

WEEK 1: No sign of amp. I'm not worried as i expect it to take the a little while.

WEEK 2: Still no amp. Postman getting shirty at my constant questions about location of my amp.

WEEK 3: Worried. I phone richer sounds and they assure me it has been repaired and will be home soon :skeptic:.

WEEK 4: No amp. I check in the porch and in the letterbox, but no it's not there. I phone richer sounds. They tell me that for some reason my amp has been mistakenly sold to another customer. I am promised a new one by the end of the week.

WEEK 5: My amp arrives :jump: !! oh no.. wait, that's a gas bill. Shit :\pissedoff:. I phone RS again to demand a new amp by the end of the week as i am going home from uni for easter and won't be here to receive it.

END OF WEEK 5: No amp. I go home.

WEEK 6/7: I spend easter having teeth removed and going to funerals . I come back in a less than good mood.

WEEK 8: I contact trading standards :read:. They tell me to give them a deadline of one week more to send me a refund, an amp, or compensation. That deadline runs out tomorrow and then i can take them to court under the "trade of goods and services act"

I have not been able to listen to new order  , or for that matter any music at all now for over 2 months. Before you ask no, i can't listen to them through my PC .

So, that's my life. And now you all know why i have gone mental .

Major, that's terrible. i'm really, really sorry to hear that. no one should be deprived of their music in such a manner, ever. and of course, nothing i or anyone else could say could really make it much better (apart from some incredibly wealthy individual here harking to your cries of pain and buying you a whole new system, of course...).

but, uh...for what it's worth, i'm REALLY sorry. and i have absolutely NO idea what i'd do in that situation. 'cept probably completely lose my head.

:headoff:

'twouldn't be pretty. i feel for you, Major T.

Come on Stevie, all is not lost is it?

What about your own unmatched singing skills, and your ability to programme your own songs and have 'em play themselves back at yer? Not to mention the little dancing gnomes that you could always bring out from your cupboard that you could set up and pretend are New Order playing live in the cosy comfort of your own room....

that is just terrible...maybe you should pay 'em a visit  :mad2:

Sympathies here, Major. Damn, my turntable went out less than a week ago, and I'm getting a bit itchy wanting to play some records (wanted to listen to the original versions of Confusion from the disc for your song review; had to listen to the two that I had on tape).

Can't imagine being without control of music that you'd wanna hear for that long. Hope you get your gear back soon.

Amp Update: STILL no F*****G AMP!!! ARGH!!! I can't even remember what new order sound like...

I'm sooooo gonna get compensation for emotional damage.

This is all a crap excuse for the fact that QT isn't really a New Order fan, and doesn't have any of the records...........

I feel your pain, my brutha. I've gone through five players in as many years, the most memorable breakdown occured the morning after I got Low-life. I remember really being blown away by that album, so i kept it in overnight. When I got up the next morning to listen to it some more, the f*^king thing wouldn't read the CDs, so i turned it off to let it cool down (for some reason I've always believed if you turn off an electronic device for a few minutes that automatically assures it will be working proper again). This time the darn thing wouldn't even turn on, so I had to undo the cd player in order to get out Low-life and the other two cds trapped in there. For weeks I had no way of knowing if the cd had been damaged in any way. Thankfully all was well after I got a newer , though it was meant to be a boombox and thus had a much lower volume threshold than normal players, thus delaying my hearing loss for a few more months....

And by undo I mean take it apart, bit by bit. What's worse, I had no idea how to put it back in working order. So again, I feel your pain....

you could if you want simply stand outside their shop (I presume you got it from one of their shops) telling everyone how rubbish their stuff is and the like and refuse not to leave until they give you a new one.

Or alternatively if that doesnt work you could make a home-made amp from some magnets, card and such, but the last time I remember doing that I set the carpet on fire...

VICTORY IS MINE!!!!

After sending them this letter:

Further to my previous letter, which I have enclosed a copy of, I am now writing to you to inform you that you have until Tuesday the 30th of April to resolve the situation or, as per the advice of trading standards, I will be taking action via the County Court small claims procedure.

I had a phone call today to apologise and they are sending me the Marantz 6010 OSE amplifier, which is a significant improvement on the one i sent back that they lost! (£130 better!!) :)

Yaaaaaay!! :jump:

Threaten court action people! it works!! :D :D :D

an excellent choice! just make sure you don't get too carried away with it and break your new system on its first run... :nonono:

seriously, i don't know what i'd do if i'd had no way to listen to anything for a couple of weeks. probably lose my mind. so you are a far better person than i. :D

(in your honour, i shall now plug in my headphones and blast the HTS full-length vocal here at work. :jump: )

Is Alice Beer possibly the ugliest woman on TV today ? I know we had the legendary TV Gargoyles thread a few weeks back and she featured prominently. Pity really, as the rest of her ain't that bad !

it almost seems as though you've won an award or something, Major! that's so excellent. listening to music should be a RIGHT, not a PRIVILEGE. ;)

Wah-wah-wah!!!

Hola janaki :hi:

I bloody wish I could listen to music at work - no such luck! It would certainly make things a lot more bearable, but there's no way the big bosses would allow it cause then I wouldn't be able to hear their constant nagging :(

 that's terrible, Kezzie...perhaps if you start singing random songs to yourself...not loud enough to be obviously obnoxious, but loud enough to get attention...perhaps that might get the message through to them? in addition to keeping you entertained?

the key is in subversion.

my boss is really lovely...she'll just tap me on the shoulder and watch me shriek in surprise when i'm snapped out of my music-induced reverie and back to paying attention to whatever it is she's showing me. but around here, you really do need the headphones...
