He wasn't there last year (or the last time, don't remember if it was in spring or last winter) either... what's your point?

My point is that Barney hasn't been up to anything extra-curricular for yonks and I get the feeling that there's a bit of a rift betwix Messers Hook and Sumner-

Barney said nothing in Brazil and Hooky was a bit upset about studio and live stuff when he did that interview in Japan (or somewhere like that) a few of months ago.

Ever considered Barney can be on his yatch at this time of the year?

Announcement? Nah, New Order never made an announcement in the past. They're not going to make one now, even if they are splitting up.

Er, didn't you say in your NOOL Year Honours post in BCD that your least favourite posts were the ones hinting at a rift between Barney and Hooky?! You also recently started a thread titled "NEW ORDER SPLIT." in block capitals. Er, so you're coming up with your own least favourite contributions to these forums!?

Your Barney's-not-talking-to-the-press split theories are pretty weak as well; New Order have always found doing promotional stuff very boring from the year dot. Hooky is more gregarious than Barney and so naturally a better choice to be the public face of the band.

I remember the Japan interview too and I don't think Hooky was upset; the basic upshot was he wanted to do more touring whereas Bernard wanted to get the last few tracks finished in the studio. They obviously talked it over, compromised and arranged the Brazilian jaunt. I don't see how this could mean their working relationship is fcuked.

HMV opening the other week...

It's not news A rift between Hooky and Bernard wouldn't be new - they said they hated each other's guts for years. They'll fall out and get back together again plenty of times yet. They're more or less family.

you could go anywhere with the rift shit.barney wasnt at the signing table at t in the park last year !!! but hooky hinted it was because barney was still flaked out in the hotel after being pissed the night before

Indeed.

I don't like those threads because it could mean the end is nigh. That doesn't mean that I don't find them interesting, don't read them or won't contribute to them.

obviously.

That wasn't hinting at a Hooky / Barney rift, it was a way of quantifying how people would feel if the end were upon us!

Bollocks; quantifying = hinting.

Fcuk's sake Craig, I have no interest in picking your posts to pieces... but most of the time you do it pretty effectively for me.

Pretty much every post you've ever made in Digital Republic (ever) has been a wild "what if" scenario yet most of the time the most obvious response "this IS" satisfies. If yer going to contribute something at least back it up with some credible reason other than 'I've got a feeling' to quote the Monaco single.

You very obviously chose a title of "NEW ORDER SPLIT." in order to panic people into viewing your thread, which is frankly a fcuking shitty thing to do. At least have the good grace to own up to sensationalism. It's not like you titled it "How would you feel if New Order really split?" which is what your question actually was.

Then we probably wouldn't be having this debate right now.

Bottom Line. Bernard doesn't do the media-facing stuff or the public facing-stuff. Rarely in the old days, never now. He leaves that to Hooky, who as Ally says is the most gregarious member of the band. Steve will happily do radio programs but rarely does anything other than that.

The interview I did with Hooky earlier in the year, he said then that it had been his wish to play live this year, Bernard wanted to finish the tracks off. They've now done the live work, there's no pressure on them to get on with anything just yet.

To misquote Mark Johnson deliberately (there are parallels, Craig!) - speculation is not only futile, but an invasion of his privacy.

Well I'm out on the pish tonight, so there better be a fucking mp3 waiting for me to download when I get back in, or else, OK?

Good, now get to it :thumb:

And I said it before, get Gillian back and replace the REAL weakest link with tape :evil4:

So whats being said in the interview then?

Okay, most questions are the familiar ones - Did you really lose money on every copy of Blue Monday? Do you own tanks/self-propelling guns, Steven? Did Bernard wear a labcoat? etc...

There is one vauguely interesting one at around 1hr 15'ish minute mark...

What does 2007 hold for New Order?

Nothing. Not any plans - we got so pissed off in Brazil!

When's the film (Control) coming out?

March/April 2007 - previewed at the Berlin film festival. Coincidently (not cash-in!) remastered Joy Division albums (with new sleevenotes, extra tracks) being released simultaneously. Something about a free live gig...?

One of the best moments is when Hooky can not remember the name of YSF

"The slow one... I play bass half way through it"

Did they say why they got pissed off in Brazil? Did they get pissed off at an event, or at each other.

I watched the broadcast of thier very last show at Personal Fest. The crowd adored them, and all of them, even Barney, seemed like they were having a really great time. They were all singing, dancing, pumping thier fists. Definately one of the best New Order shows Ive seen, they looked like theyw ere having a lot of fun.

So what did they get pissed off at?

I doubt they are breaking up. They are prolly just gonna take a year off, then re group finish a New Order album.

Did you notice the part where Hooky mentioned having a good version of YSF by a Brazilian guy? Tin God off of Community 2?

I think they pretty much dispelled the idea they were breaking up inthe interview. Sounds like they are going to kick back for a while, perhaps do a Joy Division tour depending on the success of CONTROL. Did I hear them say there were going to be two CONTROL CD's or were they just joking?
