Just been announced on Northwest news that our Tone is undergoing treatment for cancer. He says he's "optimistic" about his chances.

I'm sure I'm not alone in wishing Tony all the best, and truly hope the pompous old cunt comes through OK.

Good luck, Tony.

Indeed, a living legend.

Best of luck!

Cancer is truly an evil disease. I do have some experience in looking after a cancer sufferer. I wouldn't wish it on anybody.

I'll second the original post.

I just hope for him they found it in time before it spreaded, because this bastard is working fast.

"History is a wheel. 'Inconstancy is my very essence,' says the wheel. Rise up on my spokes if you like, but don't complain when you're cast back down into the depths. Good time pass away, but then so do the bad. Mutability is our tragedy, but it's also our hope. The worst of time, like the best, are always passing away."

Namaste. This will make some great writing material for you afterwards, right?

He was on front page of the Manchester Evening News today, and he chose to write a two page feature commending the NHS. "People who slate the NHS are usually people who don't use it" He goes on to thank all the doctors and nurses who have helped him. Also mentions that a drug called SOLENT is an experimental new drug which can guarantee a better success rate of recovery, but it's only offered privately at a cost of £2600 a cycle. For a successful recovery, someone might require about 6 cycles of treatment, which requires a tube inserted underarm, and one inserted "where the the sun don't shine". "And if there's any politicians reading this, make this available to everyone." He's still kept his sense of humour, and I wish him all the best. :thumb: :thumb:

In all seriousness, I say we start a Prayer Brigade.

Tony, you're at the top of the prayer list in my Brigade. All the best, and hang in there. You've gone through a lot--Ian's suicide. The falling-through of the Hacienda. Rob's death. You can get through this too. I have faith in that.

We all go through dark tunnels in our lives... some worse than others, but dark all the same. But there's always that shining light at the end that always leads us through.

And that light is hope.

All the best...

I admire everyone who has to battle cancer and can still stay optimistic. I don't think I could. But I sense somehow Tony's going to get well... All the best ...!

http://tinyurl.com/2sxy54 I've set up this Tiny URL which redirects to the very long original address of the Manchester Evening News site with the news article and links to Tony's article, and to the form where you can send him messages of support. I'm sure he'll read them cos they'll be good for his huge ego, and he needs it all to go through what he's facing. He's a hero for what he has created, and he was also very kind and funny with me when I met him, so I obviously feel so sorry for him...

Cancer is always a devastating thing...hope he gets better.

Good luck Tony- You are probably the 1st new order related memory I ever had- I remember watching you on Granada Reports as a little tyke...

All the very best. A positive attitude is a great help in beating this bastard of an illness- and you certainly have lorryloads of that!

BEST WISHES.

His response is admirable, whatever your prejudice against him.."I'll treat it as another one of life's adventures"

Now that's either a man putting on on a very brave face,or the sign of a remarkably brave man.Either way hat's off. Tremendous spirit, and bollocks to burn..I fuckin love that in a man.He was alrightish before anyhow, but he's just gone right up in my estimation.Good luck!

Fight the good fight. Met him once and he was a very nice guy, not the complete cunt people like to portray him as.

Cheers

My mother was diagnosed with a large tumour of the kidney in November 05.

She's subsequently made a full recovery.

I sincerely hope Tony beats this, he's always been very interesting and engaging bloke, and the world would be a dull place without him.

Whatever anyone says about the guy,his minute indescretions aside,to me,he is Mr Manchester.Directly or indirectly,he is responsible for the city being what it is today, that being a cool, iconic, cultural, arts & music leader.I accept I may be biased in this view,I'm a very proud Mancunian, but no city in the world can compete on the same level musically.I wish him all the very best & a speedy recovery.Top man:bow:  :thumb:

All the best to Tony, and hope he makes a full recovery soon. Aswell as being involved with Factory & The Hacienda, he's also had an interesting TV career. I used to like his talk/debate show for Granada called, "Stand & Deliver", which was always entertaining. Also, I liked his early 90's quiz show, "Remote Control", which was co-presented by Frank Sidebottom and Phil Cornwell (from "Dead Ringers"). He was also one of the critics on Terry Christian's "Turn On Terry", which was a good late-night TV review show, which was sadly axed, as it was a good show and gave a realistic review on the week's TV, and not a back-slapping charade like some shows I could mention.

So, thanks to Tony for all the entertainment he's given us over the years, and get well soon mate!

:uhoh: Bit of a bombshell hearing about this the other day - hope "our Tone" can do a Kylie and beat this horrible cancer and make a good recovery. The north west arts scene will be much poorer without him - cos we need someone to be both svengali and gobshite for some time yet - and no one can do it quite like Mr Wilson.

This is truly sad. I wish Tony nothing but the greatest strength, and a little luck, in his fight against cancer. Although I have never even met you, you have indirectly changed my life through your role in the lives of others that have affected my life very profoundly. Our thoughts are with you, TW!

Mr Wilson, you were willing to give up your time to help me pass my degree (and you really did help), so I just have to pass comment here..I sincerely hope you fight and win this battle, it has to be easier than keeping Factory going as long as you did anyway. You are an inspiration to us all, thank you, for everything...so far!
