1995, a bit of an odd time to discover them as they didn't release anything new then. Had heard True Faith the previous year when it was reissued and liked it. It was JD that I discovered first though when Permanent came out - hearing Transmission for the first time did the old shiver-up-the-spine thing just as well as it does now.
Then it was off to the ? best of - the contrast between WIM and Permanent I thought quite funny at the time and still do actually.

1983, aged nine years.
Heard BM and was transfixed. I didn't know until True Faith that they were actually from Manc. I always thought they were American because of the videos, particularly BLT and Confusion. But when I did find out it made it all the more special because it coincided with acid house, clubbing, Madchester and me being old enough to enjoy it. Some people talk about the swinging sixties, for me life was perfection between 1989 and 1991.
1980 someone painted "Joy Division" in huge white letters on a wall at high school when I had just started. Then when me mam let me go to footy with me mates and you get in with the naughty boys it sort of fell together that following rovers home n away and listening to new order went hand in hand for some strange reason.
Probably the aggresion on Brotherhood and LowLife albums helped to increase that bond, and attending gigs with your mates there was always the threat of violence.
FIrst record was BM 12" purchased from Marys Music in Accrington centre. It was scratched to buggery so took it back for replacement. Funny thing was as a 12 year old kid i felt a bit ripped off when i played t'other side and it was the same song without words! Lazeeeeeee buggers!
As young as I am, meh. I think I started listening to NO when I was in Mom's womb. Let's see, born in 4 Oct. '83...
Yep, I swear she must've listented to Blue Monday more than enough times.
After a while [er, most if not all of my life] I really got into the music, and what brought me full tilt was WFTSC. Afterwards I bought Substance [both NO and JD], and became thoroughly addicted, for a lack of better words.
Early last year I bought Substance [JD edition] and got addicted quickly. Then came Permanent, then Closer, and UP, and Still, and CBBCS [Complete BBC Sessions]...
So it took me over 23 years to become a fully converted JD fan, and that very lifetime to develop my full-swing love for NO.
[Though I'll humbly admit, I recall the first time I saw the video for TF. I was only a kid at the time, and when I saw Steve on the drums, I pointed at the t.v. all cutesy and giggles and actually asked Dad, 'Daddy, who is he? He is very cute. Does he go to my school?'

v impressed at all these people who have been a fan of New Order since a few years before they started.... 
Quite liked a few tracks off MOVEMENT when Radio 1 class DJ John Peel played them for the first time,but thought it was a bit doomy to go out and buy.Silly sod,love that album now.
But it was 1982 TEMPTATION which got me into them.1st album of theirs I bought was LOW-LIFE,on Factory cassette in its white library-style box.Played it to death.

I've been a fan for a fairly short time - since 2005, when my mom bought New Order Collection when I was 15. The moment I saw/heard True Faith I became instantly hooked. :) I really wish I was exposed to NO earlier, it's so much better than all the 'music' you hear on the radio...

1982 - after reading an interview in smashHits with Gillian - didn't get to hear a song till BM in 1983 - but i was already hooked
good to see so many post-2000 votes - there's life in the ol'dogs yet!
Too long to remember, but I became a Peel devotee in 1979 when I got a little clock radio. Really remember the Festive 50 in 1980 when JD took over and I still have a scratchy old mono recording of the F50 in 1981 where NO made their first appearance. Still can't believe Procession didn't do better than 48th though!
