I think Technique is a bit overrated. Actually, i don't think NO ever had a masterpiece album. They were really a single's band ,with no other band being able to match their output from 82-87.

We all have our different opinions about various songs and albums, I suppose, but I personally think there is nothing in the New Order catalogue (so to speak) that is "overrated" or anything.

I love the album, actually.

Fookinell he's back! I do think that it is a little overrated, I agree, but not at the expense of some of the ones you list. It hasn't aged well, the drum sounds are very 1989/1990, and half the songs on it aren't all that great if truth be told. The good ones are very good though, Dream Attack, Vanishing Point being the two that spring immediately to mind.

All their albums have various flaws though, either around production, editing or just shit songs. Technique probably has the smoothest production of all the albums before Get Ready, but as I say it hasn't aged well and several of the songs were long gone from their repertoire by 1993.

No album is as good/bad as its made out to be. Its down to the individual really. I love OK Computer,others hate it. Kershy has a fondness for The Beautiful South and he's definitely on his own with that!

fine time . always liked it though a bit muddy and overly fussy

i always found side B to be superior to side A by a mile. is a class album, but not up there with PC&L or Low-Life

love less. thoughts on this album are biased as it was the first new-new order album i ever bought, having only got into them a year or 2 before. and this tune is no bad.

round and round. always one of my favs, remember the excitement of seeing them play live on totp's still sounds good to these old ears.

fine time gets better with age.

especially the bass.

run. always thought the guitars a bit too tinny but reminds me of buying the twelve inch after being to reading 89 to see them, one of the best covers i think, and reading is still about the best time i have seen them.

I still simply adore this album. Its my favourite studio album by any artist. I dont know why. The songs are quite simple (but thats why NO appeal to me (you can play along to most tracks on the guitar)). Its got a good balance of synths and guitars. The lyrics have more emotion than usual and Barneys vocals are superb.

Also, it was my first NO purchase (having had a copy of the Substance LP) and I just remember always playing it. It might not have the stand out tracks of some of the other albums but its a more consistant body of work and flows really well.

Well thats my take and I aint gonna change it.

Rather than make a comment on how much this guy obviously loves getting up peoples' noses,I'll just stick to the point.Agree with Tim on the production,think it's the first album that was well produced,to my ears anyway,but there are better albums with better songs,but its' 8 out of 9 very good tunes gives it a lot to put it where it should be...just behind Lowlife.An example of a band at the height of its' powers.Oh,& the let-down track? Guilty Partner.But a 100x better than Shitstream

Funny how we all see things different ways yet manage to roughly agree as well......for me, Run is terrible, lazy and just a copout copy, All The Way is the most blatant ripoff even more than Run, and Fine Time is so horribly dated it's laughable. Round and Round sounded old by the end of 89. The rest have got some more about them, I love Guilty Partner, it knocks spots off most of Get Ready. Dream Attack and Vanishing Point are the best two on the album though for me. Run by far the worst.

A good lot of the album has aged, but not to the extent where I laugh at it (early Depeche Mode, Duran Duran) because it's so 80's.

At least the Order never used sax solos.

I quite like music that has dated (so to speak), otherwise I'd have chucked out the vast majority of my record/CD collection already! :)

So, yup, I seem to be one of the few fans of 'Fine Time' round here, and listen to Technique on a regular basis, and it still makes me smile!

I agree with the previous comment about Technique being their best album, because the album flows well and all the songs have a certain sound.

There are 9 very good songs, but in my opinion the only great song is Dream Attack - this would probably be the only Technique song to feature in my top 10 New Order songs.

But I still think it's their best album by far because of its consistency - both in terms of song quality and sound.

Love Technique, admit I hardly listen to it anymore though. At the time it came out -everything about it was mindblowing and fresh and original. Acid house was something completely new, so it sounded like the music of the future. And 'Dont Do It' is AWESOME!!! Am I the only one?

If anything's overrated it's Low-life. Good collection of songs but the production and general sound put me off.

I'm blasting Technique out right now. I love it.

For some reason this album always puts me in a good mood. I can't help getting up and having a little dance. :)

Feel the same way about Lowlife. Subculture and Elegia don't do it for me, and there's something tinny about the production.

It IS a little overrated, and it DOES sound dated even though some songs are awesome but, hey, isn't that the case of all NO albums, PCL excepted ?

I totally agree with this.

Technique and Republic always get shitted on... when in fact on a whole.. those albums could quite possibly be some of the strongest to date... and consistent as far as album theme goes. I had to give Republic some time to get into, but once I did...

Ok, I'm not a big fan of "Ruined in a Day", but that's going off-topic here.

I think Technique is a very strong and flawless record, really. Perfect for the time, and while some may say its a bit out-dated, and out-dated technology and production, but I have to disagree. They may have used some things a little behind, but they still put a new/original twist to it all. Actually, no, I wouldn't even say that, really. Its still way beyond anything else that came out from that year, and those songs are still fucking classics to this day. Fucking out of this world album. Also, I think its more solid than albums like PC&L in some sense. They're incapable of making an 'overrated' album, in my opinion. I think every album they have done has shown to be very strong and very well deserving of praise. If anything, I think Technique is quite underrated.

But that's just me.

I can understand the arguments about some of the songs sounding dated (esp. Round and Round) but surely it just depends on whether you like the song or not, not just because the technology (and sounds) of the time has now been left behind

I suppose it does help if you like other electronic and acid stuff from that time though.

I think Technique quite rightly deserves all the praise it gets. Pretty much every song on there is very listenable, I especially like Mr. Disco, Round and Round, Vanishing Point. It's a great album which does have a kind of electrifying disco feel. I love it.

NAH! Technique I would still consider the best of the bunch,because it was technically brilliant,the best Barney's vocals have ever been as well.Maybe that's the secret to the indifference about the album.Too clean and polished. Same as the indifference as to whether you like your SUNRISE NO or you prefer your ROUND & ROUND NO.

PUNK vs POP.

A lot of my favourites on this one,FINE TIME,ROUND & ROUND,MR DISCO,RUN,VANISHING POINT. Shame that the Order didn't play more of these live.I seem to remember seeing them do FINE TIME at "TEMPTATION" at M.E.N Arena December 1998.
