Reading through the latest 'whats your top ten list' I was surprised to find Dream Attack in many peoples list. It's also a favourtie if mine but probably not a well recognised NO tune.

Thinking about it, many of my faves have grown on me since the early days. A couple that come to mind...

  • Dream Attack
  • I Told You So (especially like the guitar riff)

What tracks that were not singles or hits do you enjoy? :thumb:

Hurt took me ages to get into... Also TPK, always thought it was good, but wasn't a stand-out track for me for years...

CONFUSION took me years to really like.:hat:

Couldn't really get into Lonesome Tonight when I first heard it a decade ago because I thought the opening lyrics were ridiculous.

A few years later  heavy rotation on my iPod these days as well

Didn't like Crystal when it leaked out at the time either, what was I thinking

Your Silent Face took me nearly 20 years, I didn't get it until Old Trafford 2002.

Way Of Life is the current grower.

Same here - mainly due to only really having heard the redone Substance version... Original is much better... Current 'now why didn't I think that was great when I first heard it?' is 1963...

Confusion for me too. Only truly started to love it when I heard the mix of it on Retro - the Pop disc. All that terrace-style chanting on it completely changes the flavour of the track for me - and it's about 7, 8 minutes long which gives it a hypnotic quality.

gawd knows what your problem was with crystal, but echo the thoughts on lonesome tonight, though it was more than a decade ago!

I still dont get either song but I do (strangely) really like the Version of YSF on Community 2.

I would pick Doubts Even Here or first track off Taras (starts off "one day is now or never" i think but can never for the life of me remember the title).

I meant when I first heard Lonesome ;) which was well after '84 obviously.

With Crystal, I think it was because up until then the last we'd heard from them was Republic, True Faith-94, BM-95 etc which all tended to be lighter sounding I.e. guitars complimenting keyboards, crisper production etc.

Crystal by comparison was an aural kick up the arse that they'd obviously turned the guitars up to 11 for. Didn't love it immediately but it's definitely grown.

Never heard a New Order song properly rawk so much since Sunrise.

realise you meant when you heard it, i meant it was more than a decade for me. (i remember when you started posting on ceremony!)

possibly Fine Time, which gets a spin these days, instead of straight to next one.

I'm still subscribed but it is comprehensively dead these days isn't it? The forums here kinda put paid to Fac 33 years ago which is a bit of a shame. I think that and the fact we all probably get enough email now.

Quality resource at the time though, think most Ceremony people bar a few migrated over to NOOL in the early naughties.

For a long time I thought 'Everything's Gone Green' was a crock of shit.

Not any more.

Round & Round Ruined In A Day True Faith Hurt

I realize three of those are A-sides...but they took me longer to get into than some album tracks.

The bassist from Monaco ripped off New Order.

It's a disgrace, Hooky should kick him in :nono:

Is'nt Jack the bassist from Monaco nowadays ?

Surely Hooky has a rule about not kicking in his relatives. I know I do...apart from the odd headlock, chinese burn, dead arm, nipple twist.

It's about love & respect!

At first, I didn't like the following--

In a Lonely Place Cries & Whispers Confusion [because of 'Substance'] Temptation [because of 'Substance'] The Village Ultraviolence Paradise Bizarre Love Triangle [took me a while too] State of the Nation Shame of the Nation Shellshock [which is one of my all-time faves now!!] Round & Round TBTHOG [it's finally starting to grow on me...!!] Who's Joe? Hey Now What You Doing? I Told You So J-E-T

...and now I love 'em! :wink3: w00t!

Ultraviolence and Ecstasy although one of the key factors was :smoking: :ignore:

We All Stand - preferred the live version that I came across on YouTube

State of the Nation - although I would say I'm not completely swayed by it, but the closest I've been so far (bonus thanks to Re: Order)

STYT and TTON have also picked up a lot of play lately. :D

Both tracks are pure class. Loved I Told You So from first listen. That and Guilt were my favorites right off the bat.

Run In a Lonely Place Age of Consent (not sure why listening to it now) Every Little Counts Mr. Disco

A lot of these are now my favourite New Order songs

If we're doing Joy Division, it took me ages to get into Atmosphere, and now days I'm just like "This song is great, what have I been missing out on"

Ruined in a day special spooky.

most of republic as you can see. I don't think republic is nearly as bad as some think. If the rest of the band was more involved, i think it would of been quite good actually.
